I inquired about a rescue and shared that I would put the adopted pet on a trusted pet insurance. They responded that it would be a violation of thier contract to provide this specific company. What, violation for providing great care for a loving pet is a violation? I feel sorry for the animals in thier care if this is thier philosophy. Stay away from them.

we had a very pleasant experience, my mother and my adult son and our little dog Milo were all in the small front area and there were other dogs barking and kittens jumping around but Milo was very focused on the puppy Pluto we wanted to adopt. Pluto is just a 3month old baby so he was very nervous but after like 30 minutes he calmed down and tried to play with Milo a bit. everything went so well that we got to take Pluto home with us. he is the cutest chiweenie ever and he is getting much more confident in the house but it's only day 2 but he is just so adorable we all love him. I think the lady's that work at the shelter were very nice, but cautious as they should be to make sure we are a good fit together. I. an imagine they have met some people that were not for to have pets so they have a right to be cautious for the sake of the animal.

I initially had a great interaction at first with the woman fostering the dog. During the meet and greet I was really disappointed with the way the staff set up the meeting and communicated with me in a very unprofessional manner. I was put into a small space that was very hectic and overstimulating with several cats and barking dogs, one who was in a low open cage and growled at my son when he went near the cage. I have another dog and a small child who I disclosed I was bringing with me so the staff was aware beforehand. The environment was really overstimulating and there were 5 other people in the room in addition to at least a dozen other animals. My dog, who is not naturally anxious, was overwhelmed and stayed by the door. I did the best with the visit and was told at the end that the puppy was scared because of my son, which was offensive and also inaccurate because he was well behaved and not aggressive or overbearing in any way toward the dog. One staff member told me that my son would corner the dog and the dog would bite him. I assured her that wouldn’t happen as he lives with two animals and knows to give space and be gentle. She then accused me of not caring if my son got bitten. There was so much going on that it felt very inappropriate to blame the dog being scared on my son and unfair to put a small puppy in such an overwhelming environment. I tried to call to give feedback about my experience and the woman was really rude to me and told me that “she didn’t want to hear it” and hung up on me. It was unfortunately a really negative experience and I left feeling very discouraged and offended. Overall I feel if the shelter is going to accept applications from people with small children or other animals there needs to be a space or environment without so many other people and animals, especially for animals that are in foster homes and aren’t used to that much stimulation and make sure the environment is kid friendly and safe.

The adoption process was fast, convenient, affordable & easy. Would 100% recommend adopting from OFOSA or volunteering as a foster pet caretaker.

I adopted Stella a small 6lb. chihuahua on Jan.2021. After not getting any results from other adoption rescues, i turned to OFSA an got returned feed back on several adoptable animals. The staff and foster mother were truly helpful in every aspect of my adoption of Stella. Since losing my 16 yr. old Dashand i wasn't sure i was ready for another animal, but after meeting the office staff and hearing what the animals had been through, i fell for the tiny little girl. Now a week into having her hear i could'n't ask for a more loving giving dog. She has truly picked up my energy level. thank you to all the volunteers at OFSA.

I'm going with not professional because not adopting to us because we live 40 miles from Portland area seems just ridiculous. And we found nowhere on their site that says they only adopt to Portland area. Devastated. Why? Just seems unfair! We've looked for years, finally find a perfect pup and simply can't adopt because we live 40 miles away? Is this normal for OFOSA? Why would that not be in web site info? And if it is, it must be fine print because I looked really well. We would have been such a great place for the dog we found. Just perfect. So bummed. I gave them 2 stars out of kindness. I'll bet they would take our money for donations but won't let us adopt. ???? I'll change my post and review if they change their heart. Denying a dog a great home makes me feel they don't want what's best for the dogs. They take their pets to petsmart....ANYONE from ANYWHERE can adopt at petsmart. We really didn't want to lose out on the dog we found but just don't understand why they didn't even give us a chance.

I had met one of the kittens under their charge five days ago and when I called about adopting him, I was told he was on a medical hold for a possible infection and they had no idea when he would be available again. I asked if a note could be made, or if I could be contacted when the kitten was available again as I was very serious about adopting him. They were very non-committal and just said “if I remember” and to just call and check their website. I did so over the weekend as they were closed and the kitten was not listed. come Monday morning when they were open again, I asked about the kitten and was told the kitten had been adopted out because one of their volunteers did not realize the kitten was on a medical hold. While I’m happy the kitten found a home I am absolutely devastated and will not be dealing with this organization in the future

They take at risk animals from high kill shelters, give them the medical attention they need, and make sure they are adoptable. I am a foster parent for them. I love the work they do and feel as if we are making a difference.

We just adopted a beautiful puppy from OFOSA, and we could have not been happier with our choice. The process was smooth from beginning to end. The foster parent of our puppy was wonderful! She responded to my initial inquiry promptly, arranged a meeting day and she asked all the necessary questions before proceeding. Once she decided we, as a family, were the right fit she sent me detailed information about the adoption process. She fostered two pups from the same litter and I loved how her only request was to keep them together the longest, needless to say this was not long at all, both pups had eyes on them and we end up bringing ours home very fast. The administrator over at OFOSA was great too, she was very detailed with the information, and took her time to explain everything and answer our questions. I will definitely recommend this organization to whoever is looking to adopt an animal.

We adopted our kitten Tuffy here recently. She is the sweetest and our whole family loves her including our other cat. She is a petite girl and needed a little time to make weight to be spayed before she could be adopted . During this time her foster Mom was great about keeping me updated and sending photos. I would definitely recommend this shelter. Thanks for helping us find the newest addition to our family!
