I had an emergency with a bunny who was paralyzed. I was not a client but need assistance. This vet made time. The technician who helped was great. She was understanding and patient. We felt comfortable with our decision and were able to take a few minutes to fully accept the situation. After this experience, I would recommend them to anyone.

The staff and vets at River Road are everything you would hope for! They are kind, warm and friendly and always helpful. Even more important, they are also professional and skilled! We love taking our ferrets and our cats to the vets there because we know they get excellent care and they treat them like beloved, unique pets. As a bonus, they have chickens and a duck that my toddler LOVES to visit!

Our Sadie loves going to River Road Animal Hospital. The warmth, compassion, and excellent care from everyone are amazing. Whether she has a regular check up or the.emergency situation that happened a year ago where she stayed overnight, Dr. Allie Travis, veterinarian extraordinaire, and her crew are the ONLY people we want Sadie with and River Road is the ONLY place we want her to be. Zephyr loves going to River Road Animal Hospital! He gets super excited to see the doctors and all of the Vet techs. I don't blame him either because they are always so happy to see him and he gets top notch service! I chose RR because Dr Travis also ownes great danes and I wanted a doctor who knew the needs of the breed. I keep going because of the wonderful service by Dr Travis, Dr Derby and the team. He absolutely loves it there and I appreciate the expert advise and time that is given to me at every single visit.

This was my first time taking our dog to River Road Animal Hospital. Everyone was very friendly, professional and willing to answer any questions. They took great care to give her a thorough exam and were very kind and loving towards her. With the changes in routine that had to be made due to the requirements for Covid it’s made things different for everyone, but the staff has done a great job making things flow smoothly. I would highly recommend this practice.

A very friendly clinic. The staff is capable of caring for exotics as well as dogs and cats. Dr. Derby has been caring for our cats. I'm happy with her communication and how she interacts with our cats during exams. The online process being employed during COVID 19 is efficient and user friendly.

In 20+ years using a variety of Southport NC veterinary clinics RRVet stands out as always going the extra mile to serve the animals and the owners. This applies to administrative, technical and the doctors. We tried several clinics in our first decade in Southport and while they were all adequate+, we are now very pleased to have found RRVet Clinic.

While visiting Oak Island, my 14-1/2 year old dog developed a "hot spot" on his neck. I initially thought that it was a draining abscess and called around for a vet to take a look at him for treatment. The first hospital, Four Paws Animal Hospital, that I called informed me that they were not taking new patients (so basically, to hell with my dog). As I did with River Road Animal Hospital, I explained that my dog needed to see a vet for a draining abscess. Again I was told that Four Paws was not taking new clients and had a waiting list of 45 people. When I called River Road Animal Hospital and explained my situation, they took some basic information on my dog and told me to bring him right in and they would take a look. The staff was wonderful. When I move to Oak Island as a permanent resident, I will continue to bring my 3 dogs to Dr. Calley Steelman for veterinary care. Dr. Steelman was caring and compassionate to my old dog and I cannot thank her enough for the kindness that she showed for him. The hospital even called the next day to see how he was doing.

We LOVE River Road Animal Hospital and would 100% recommend! We just moved here in August and I am a VERY anxious pet parent. My cat (who isn’t the friendliest to anyone except my husband and I) just got fixed on Wednesday (9/30). At drop off they were amazing and answered all of my questions. They texted me as she went into surgery, and called once she got out. They even sent me a video of her before they left for the night. At pickup, Brad answered all of our discharge questions and was so friendly! It’s now day 4 and the incision is almost healed. Dr Travis did a wonderful job and we are forever thankful!

We were on vacation in Southport with our senior cat. She became very ill so we found River Rd. Animal Hospital. They were incredibly compassionate and thorough. They took their time with her even though she was nearly 20 years old. They were truthful as to her situation and prescribed some medicines to help her be comfortable. We took her home and enjoyed another 5 months with her before she passed. I highly recommend this animal hospital.

My little monster is a senior and she was spilling protein into her urine. It was a mystery why but damaging her kidneys. Dr. Steelman figured out a medicine to manage the condition and we are so grateful to have our little girl! Thank you!

My senior cat, Annie, needed dental surgery to remove infected and broken teeth. Dr. Derby performed the operation along with her assistants, and the results are perfect. Annie is out of pain, acting normal again, and healing well. I'm so grateful for this hospital's continued service, compassion, and expertise.

I cannot say enough great things about this practice! We’ve been with them for years now through a number of cats with simple to extremely complex issues. The vets are extremely knowledgeable and able to think outside the box. If something baffles them, they have gone above and beyond to seek out options from specialists for us at no extra charge. The front desk staff as well as the techs are well-trained, caring and compassionate. The fact that they can be reached after hours has saved us, and our fur babies, more times than I can count. I would not consider any other veterinary practice for my animals! #RRAHROCKS

I've had my pet here 5 times and in the previous posting stated they are consistently late by 30 mins to even over an hour. Have had to reschedule a scheduled appointment. Over 1k and never met the vet.

In light of the sheltering order, RRAH was responsive to my need for my pet to be seen, as well taking all possible precautions. Dr Travis took the time to call me with the results of her examination and her recommended plan of treatment. As always, I received a followup call the next day to see how my cat was responding to the medications. They are great!!
