We visited Safe Haven for Cats because we wanted to bring home a kitten for Christmas. The staff was incredibly helpful and answered my million questions about cat ownership and each cat we visited with while we were there. They allowed my kids to come in and interact with the cats and were so patient, even when my kids were a bit overexcited and I had to remind them to calm down or they'd scare the kitties. In fact, they recommended the perfect cat for my family. They know the cats so well and are not just a shelter. They, in effect, act as matchmakers between the cats the families that come to adopt them. We could not have been happier with Safe Haven for Cats, our experience, or our newest family member, The Great Catsby (they get credit for the awesome literary name!).

So my personal experience with SHC started with an all white feral but friendly Tom cat. I started feeding it and noticed a gash on one of his hind leg. Left a message with them to help with this cat. The following day I got a call to bring him in. They all were so engaging and very caring. Kudos for Safe Haven for Cats.????????

Hands down most incredible caring staff that are dedicated to matching you with the best cat for your family. Our family of 7 spent the entire day there trying to get to know the cats that were available for adoption. The staff were kind, informative, not pushy or judgemental, and really allowed us the space and time to choose the right pet for us. We have had our cats for two years and they are amazing sweet affectionate cats. Please visit if you are considering adopting a cat. You won't regret it!

Amanda Sanders has recovered nicely from her spaying. I rested along with her. I followed post-op directions and she has improved everyday. Her site and her tattoo are both healed.

Before the decision of adopting our cat, we looked at various places and came across Safe Haven because their organization seemed lovely and positive. When making our appointment online, the process of signing up and contact with each other was really easy and fast! At our appointment, we met beautiful, nice, respectful, and informative employers who talked to us about why we want to adopt a cat, what do we know about cats, etc. Then we’re taken to meet the cats and we came across the one we loved whom we played with in the “play area.” The adoption process was easy as well!!! Now we are blessed with our little companion who is a ball of love and fun to have. I would DEFINITELY recommend Safe Haven to anyone wanting to adopt a cat as a companion to have for life.

Today I brought home my first furry friend, Giovanni Carrick! He is a very energetic, sweet, 10 week old boy. Lisa, my adoption counsellor, was very informative and sincere in answering all question in detail. It made me feel more at ease to have the knowledge of how to care for my kitten. All the other staff that I had interacted with were very pleasant and kind.

Adopted a great cat today. They were excellent in every way. Explained everything about the adoption, the cat and caring instructions and expectations. Highly recommend this establishment.

If you want to adopt a cat and then be told to literally never let it outside ever again then this is the place for you. If you find that a little unrealistic and a bit inhumane then you may want to consider looking elsewhere for a pet. To never let an animal outside ever again seems a bit overboard. We will look elsewhere for a companion for our pet.

Highly recommend. Adoption application easy but thorough. We adopted our new baby girl ditto. There was not one scent of cat or dirty litter box. Staff super friendly. Overall great experience.

These people are judgy, horrible at communication, and I would not recommend fostering with them. They have unclear expectations about what a foster should be doing and we very quick to let us go after we broke a couple of their "recommendations". They do not treat their fosters well unless they can be available 24/7 and drop anything to bring a foster or pick them up. They wanted us to drop of a kitten on Christmas Eve night with an hour's notice and we said no. This upset them very much. Unless you plan to make fostering the main focus of your life and are fine with their unreasonable, constraining rules (like not being able to use a certain type of litter that they gave us in our own home) then do not foster with them. I can only assume their views toward willing adoptees are the same. Volunteering there is not a good idea, even if you aren't fostering. They are ungrateful and bossy when you volunteer to help out and clean the cages and clearly already have certain people they love and don't actually plan on having anyone else as a full time volunteer. My family and I have all had awful experiences there that left us upset and sometimes in tears. There are way better options in the Raleigh area and if I could give them a 0/5 I would.

I wish they had a better procedure when adopting during Covid but I understand the process to keep everyone safe. Just wish I didn’t have to wait 3 weeks to make an appointment to visit juSt in case I decide not to adopt.
