This is the most unprofessional place I have tried to take my puppy. Please if you value having you pet cared for by a professional please do not come to this vet. Today would have been my puppy first visit but the way this dr yelled and screamed at the top of his lungs at a customer was totally uncalled for. Especially since all the woman wanted was questions answered about her pet’s care. My God she had a child with her who seemed very afraid for the safety of the person she was with!

I had to put my cat down after only 8 and half years. It was very hard. Dr Fred was very compassionate and respectful and let me stay passed closing time to compose myself. It's a favor I'll never be in a position to repay but much appreciated. The cat was never sick but visits to his office for check ups were always smooth.

Always a great experience with Dr. Fred & Alice . My cats have been under their care for almost 20 years. My 16 year old cat had a visit today & happy to say she is doing well thanks to Dr.Fred & staff.

Dr. Fred was the most compassionate vet I’ve ever known. He was our dog, Max’s vet for 14 years. When we had to put him down due to Cancer, he held him and kissed him to say goodbye. We were all moved to tears. Very hard to think of getting another dog, but when we do, Dr. Fred will be his/her vet.

I first went to Dr. Fred when I moved to Staten Island in 1994. We started using another vet because we moved further away and brought our pets to Dr. Fred when our other vet was unavailable. This vet doesn't even deserve 1 star. He's very judgemental, & rude. I was not surprised when I read reviews from others with the SAME complaints as mine. He makes you feel like a bad pet owner. The first question out of his mouth is, "have you been seeing another vet?" Or "You haven't been here since -----" OR his famous question "when was the last time he/she had shots?" First of all, all my cats are indoor cats ONLY. Never been outside. So I don't keep bringing them in for shots. I must be doing something right because any cat or dog i've had died after the age of 12 and the eldest cat died at 21. All my pets have had all their shots and have been fine. I take them to a vet if they're sick. Today, he had the nerve to charge me $55 for a visit that was barely five minutes, to tell me my dog should see a "Neurologist" for his leg, and he didn't even provide a service. Basically, I paid $55 for a referral to GSIVS who wanted $160 just to walk in, and $240 for an x-ray. I said forget it and left. I called my friend because she loves her vet. So, I now have another vet I see in Bayonne, NJ who is very very nice and didn't even bring up anything about my dog having to go to a specialist. He gave my dog a shot for pain, anti-inflammatory medicine and supplements for joints. A visit, 2 hip x-rays, & an x-ray of his leg, the shot, the medicine, and the supplements came to only $317.52. I have to bring him back in a week and will not be charged for the return visit because it's a follow up visit. He said we'll try the pain management first. If that doesn't help him, he can do laser which is in six treatments, $55/treatment and the last one is free so you only pay for five. I believe the "good reviews" about Dr. Fred are from those who go religiously for the shots and ONLY see him. And don't even get me started on his wife. She is no better. She could be just as rude. Someone mentioned he seemed afraid of their dog. He acted the same with mine. He asked me if my dog is good. I said yes, he's very good and will let you do whatever you need to do. He still put a muzzle on him, and he's a lab, gentle, loving dogs they are. The neighbor who first told me to go to Dr. Fred, started taking her dog to a vet in Bay Terrace. I wonder why because she raved about him. I still see her and when I do again, i'm going to ask her why she changed vets. So, moral of the story: If you promise to never use another vet but Dr. Fred, & take your pets for shots religiously, he will be good to you & your pet. I wouldn't recommend him to my enemy.

Wonderful dr. Been going here since the late 90s . Very compassionate. It's not about the money. Seems people dont like to be told no. And make up story's. If he's not comfortable doing something. Dont give him a bad review. Be greatful . He could take your money And make a mistake . I personally never had any bad intentions over the 20 plus years

Extremely disappointed with the service i received from this vet. Let me start by saying bringing your pet here will put them more at risk than they ever were. I have a 2 year old Rottweiler whom we have taken to this vet before, and upon meeting him the first time the vet was afraid which automatically raised concern. A vet who is afraid of a kind sweet dog? We found a tick on our dog and brought it into the vet for proper removal. The vet removed the tick, not without letting his fear of the dog be known AND letting us know he didn't value us as customers because we do not get our annual shots there (because their price is robbery). The tick was completely removed and the vet said we could be on our way but he did not disinfect the tick bite! Upon research we discovered the tick bite site must be disinfected properly to ward off infection. Our Rottweiler now has a lemon size wound on his head due to an infection! Upon calling the vet he lied and said he cleaned it, but when we arrived to the office with our dog he admitted he didn't clean the area because he was afraid!! My Rottweiler is now in extreme discomfort and at risk for developing a great infection due to his negligence and unprofessional manner! He also YELLED that he does not want us as customers and to never come back! He became very angry when we came looking for help for the infection that he undoubtedly caused. He embarrassed us as customers by screaming aggressively in his office and showed his true colors. He does not care about the well being of your pets, he only wants your money. If you get your annual shots there, he might be nicer to you. But that is no way to run a business, especially when you allow us to come in KNOWING we do not get our shots there. We asked him to help us and he repeatedly told us "go to your other vet", which the only reason we did not was because HE caused this problem and it's up to him to fix it. Extremely childish and disrespectful, negligent, rude, ill-mannered and should NOT be able to call himself a veterinarian.

Short version: Stay away. Longer Version: Let me start by saying I was with Dr Fred for 7-8 years with my dog. Everything was great while my dog was healthy; we went through the standard motions of checkups (vaccines, heartguard, etc) with the clinic until we noticed she had signs of Pyometra (infection of the Uterus). He looked at it, and set that was Pyometra for sure. I asked Fred if he can remove it for us, he declined. Fred said he no longer performed such operations and he referenced us to some big shot animal hospital. We called them up and the price was ridiculous so we went shopping around for a reasonable price with a reputable clinic. The new doctor checked her out, turned out it was a tumor. The new doctor removed the whole Uterus with the tumor, which was fine it's kind of no different than a spade. We had followed her up with that same doctor for several months to make sure my dog was recovering reasonably well. She did recover, thankfully. A year or two go by with us following up with the new doctor to make sure there were no new growths and I think there were one or two vaccinations that we did with him. A week ago my dog came down with some sort of eye inflammation, so we figured lets call Fred since it's not related to the uterus. We set up an appointment and brought our dog in. He asks what the problem is, I explain my dog has some sort of issue with her eye, then he goes on to ask why I haven't been coming to him anymore. I told him it was because you declined to operate on my dog, so we followed up with the other doctor that did the operation. He then goes on to say that if the other doctor was so good, why come back here. I told him that it was because we liked coming to you and we felt you could help. He just kept pressing me with the question of if the other doctor was so good to you, why come back. It's kind of strange seeing a grown 60+ year old man acting like a child. So after I kept giving him the same answer, he said, in no uncertain terms, that he doesn't want me as a customer any more. He gave my dog topical ophthalmic eye drops, which I explained to him didn't work, and showed me the door. This whole situation was kind of bizarre. I imagine he was upset because of the vaccines... I'm guessing it's their bread and butter. It's just kind of hurtful to see a man that saw your dog grow from a little puppy to an old sack of fur turn her away. I understand that they probably have no personal attachments to these animals since they see dozens of them every day, but I do. It was so weird seeing this man put up this facade of caring with his patients for so many years. I can forgive Fred for not seeing the 5 cm growth on the X-ray, but I don't think I can excuse the self-entitlement. I was surprised reading another person had a similar experience in the reviews, so I decided to share my own. I imagine most people won't have an issue with him as long as you keep coming back for your shots. I'm not sure if it was his wallet or his pride that I hurt, but I imagine it was a bit of both. Be sure not to bring up any care you receive from other vets; and If you skip a year or two, start looking for a new vet.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. Terrible bedside manner. Made us feel like bad pet owners. My husband didn’t want to stay when they euthanized my cat. He said he will come in after it’s done. The vet says “Then I will take her in the back and do it.” So my husband said “you are going to put her down, right?” So the vet says “well what do you think I am going to do with this smelly cat”. So my husband stayed while they put her down. Then me and my daughter were going to go back in but I saw the vet carrying out my dead cat like he was carrying a pizza. Very cold people. Beware

I basically brought I’m my cat to get spayed, during the procedure, he found out my cat was pregnant (which was also a surprise to me) and removed the embryo. On top of killing the baby kittens without my consent , he wanted me to pay additional money for this. When I refused to pay for this horrible action , he cursed me out and told me to never come back , very unprofessional !!!
