We adopted our second cat through HVARS, and we love him so much. However, shortly after bringing him home, our resident cat became very ill and was hospitalized for multiple days. What we’ve since learned is that our adopted cat had feline herpes, which he passed on to our resident cat. We are very upset that this was not identified by the rescue, snd communicated to us. We were encouraged to adopt this particular cat into a home with another cat. The financial burden and emotional hardship of one of our pets being that sick seems wholly avoidable. It breaks my heart to not recommend an animal rescue to anyone, but I feel our resident cat’s health was endangered by their negligence.

I really like this animal shelter because they listen to you and really try to match the you with the right pet. Stacy worked with me and found exactly the cat I was looking for. They have visiting rooms where you can spend time with your potential new friend. All animals are spayed/neutered before leaving. I highly recommend.

Both of my cats had surgery here and both died one few weeks after one a week after I am trying to think of the Surgical instruments are clean right. I hate that every time I call they right away out you on hold and make you wait on hold then on top of that your in the parking lots for long time waiting to be seen for an appointment makes me late to work everytime I go there most important is both of my cats are now dead. No explanation must have died from infections even after having antibiotics ???? Rest In Peace my babies .

Thank God for HVARs. My dog got seriously messed up with a broken leg and they have been very good with caring for him. If you need a good vet, give them a try.

HVARS almost ruined my 9 month old kitten during a routine spay and rabies vaccination. She came home and was with a large lump around the surgical area (which was removed and corrected by Ark Animal Hospital) and seemed very unfamiliar with our apartment when she came home (we've lived there for 9 months). We then took her to Ark Animal Hospital where everything was corrected and our kittens life/bounce was returned to her. I recommend Ark Animal Hospital.

Took my baby to be fixed and shots ...they went above and beyond for both of us.I had to drop her off and get to work.so they stepped up and did my paper over the phone day before to make my drop off smooth as can be...we live over an hour away so knowing this the pick up was even easier for me. I give a big shout and thank you to all you wonderful ladies at the HUDSON VALLEY ANIMAL RESCUE..Highly recommended them...❤

Myself and a friend had been going to HVARS for some time before Covid to walk the dogs. We both have donated many supplies and money donations. We went yesterday to walk some dogs. We were greeted ,rather coldly, by a man who looked us over like we were uninvited guests. When we told him we have waivers on file his response was I don't recognize these people. He then said I will talk to you outside. We went outside where he proceeded to tell us he has taken over and if we wanted to walk dogs we had to fill out an application and come for orientation next Saturday. I asked if we could go in the kennel to see the dogs and was rudely told no. I don't know what happened to the kind women who used to be there but I can say I will find a new shelter to support. I live almost 20 miles away so I won't waste my time with his sketchy place!!!

They're just providing services to the community, not trying to profit by offering extra stuff that's your pet doesn't need. This is a great place to get all kinds of pets neutered for a much more reasonable price than most vets or animal hospitals. They also have very affordable routine preventative care like vaccines, flea/tick treatments & even nail trimming. So grateful!

While I absolutely love the cat I adopted from HVARS back in January, I feel obligated to share that the people who assisted with the adoption were incredibly misleading about his health status. My cat is FIV+ which is a detail they obviously revealed to me when I met him. I conducted my own research into the condition and the information was overwhelmingly positive: many people have FIV kitties who live long, healthy lives with little to no issues. This information was encouraging and led to my ultimate decision to bring my now-son home. However, the rescue overlooked (or misrepresented, I’m not sure) quite a few details about him. Firstly (unrelated to the FIV), they told me he was given flea meds before I took him home. A few days later I found fleas on him, called the rescue, and they said his flea meds must’ve “fallen through the cracks.” Additionally, his ears were full of black specks and when I asked HVARS what the specks were, they claimed his ears were just “dirty”; an outside vet told me he actually had an infection in both ears. Now we are battling some serious gum issues, very much related to the FIV, and I find it hard to believe that his mouth was 100% healthy when I adopted him (it was only 3 months ago). I suppose the rescue does not have a terrible amount of surplus time to provide detailed veterinary exams to all their fur-residents, but gum issues are quite common for FIV+ cats and the fact that they did not conduct a dental exam or let me know of possible issues in his mouth before the adoption feels shady to me. I liken my experience at HVARS to that of a naive, somewhat ignorant person seeking help at an auto shop with little knowledge of cars; when you don’t know what you’re buying or paying for, it’s easy for the seller to spew B.S. and make the sale. This is my first cat and I can’t help but think they took advantage of this detail and falsely assured me that the cat was a-ok, just to get him out the door. Again, I love my cat and I don’t regret adopting him, but I do feel misled and like I was not given the whole story.
