I bought 2 yorkies from this pet store within a 2 year span and they are both extremely healthy. They both didn't have any health problems when I first purchased them so I am shocked to see what happens in there. I contacted my dogs …

Owners should be locked up and the key thrown away , the way they treated dogs in their care. Made me tear up, and also beyond furious. Revolting people Goodbye and good riddance

As much as it’s fun to walk by and look at the puppies in the window, it comes at a cost. This place is inhumane to its core. They source their puppies from puppy mills and keep them in abysmal conditions where many die. Read the Humane Society Article. If that doesn’t bother you, just know that you’ll likely be dealing with huge vet bills and behavioral issues if you buy a puppy that’s been bred and raised that way. Instead, contact a responsible breeder, or even better adopt.

My husband and I were on a date and happened to walk by this pet shop on our way to lunch. I saw a Ragdoll kitten in the window and begged my husband to stop in and hold one. When we got in the shop, we were directed to the back where there were two more Ragdoll kittens. I asked to hold the one that was awake and a young lady who seemed irritated took him out at gave him to me. When I held him, he fell into my chest as if to ask for me to take him home. I’ve never seen a kitten so calm and loving. I just had to have him. I told the young lady that I would return another day and she seemed a bit happier as she gave me information about the kitten. I returned two days later right after work at 11am and was pleased to see that my kitten was still there. I waited outside for 2 hours until the shop opened. As expensive as he was, I just had to have him, take him home and give him the best life possible. The paperwork took about 20 minutes to complete and all of his documents and immunizations were given to me. The staff helped me pick out his necessities and I was ecstatic when I left the store with him in his little bag. It’s been three weeks and my family is still overjoyed to have Kanen.

Awful! All the puppies are in horrible condition! Most having what I’m sure to be kennel cough! The owner needs to take them all to a proper vet as soon as possible! DO NOT BUY FROM HERE!! Take your business elsewhere! UPDATE - just found out there is a video on YouTube posted by the Humane Society of the United States. If you look up investigation on American kennels Humane Society it will pop up and you can see for yourself the horrid conditions these puppies are in!

I received information that an under cover investigation from the humane society stated a golden-doodle died due to lack of veterinary care! This place puts profit over the welfare of animals! Don’t support them!

I SO HOPE THEY SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN AND PIT IN JAIL EVERYBODY INVOLVED IN THIS. Investigation reveals dozens of sick and dying puppies in NYC pet store. An undercover investigation by the Humane Society found multiple sick and dying puppies in a well-known Manhattan pet store, some of which were even sold to customers. Much of the cruel treatment of the animals at Lexington Avenue American Kennels, which has been open since 1954 and attracting customers with cute puppies in the windows, was captured through hidden cameras placed by the Humane Society of the United States. The investigation found that of the approximately 60 puppies in the store, at any given time, 12 to 20 of them were sick and were stored in the designated sick room and a cold basement and hidden from the public, according to the Humane Society. According to the Human Society, at least one puppy was found dead at the store after being left alone for almost 24 hours from Thanksgiving Day into Friday morning. According to the report, the investigator asked management to bring the visibly sick toy goldendoodle puppy to the veterinarian multiple times, but it refused to do so. The dog, which refused to eat, was allegedly force-fed. “Our undercover investigations have repeatedly proven that pet stores like American Kennels get their dogs from puppy mills and are no place for fragile young puppies,” says John Goodwin, senior director of the Stop Puppy Mills campaign at the Humane Society. “These animals cannot receive the proper care they require in a retail store that has 50 or 60 puppies at a time, leaves them alone for long periods of time, and does not take them for urgent care when they are critically ill.” Some of the dogs were sick and suffering for weeks with symptoms suggesting infections, pneumonia, abscesses, diarrhea, parasites, and more, according to the Humane Society, and treated in the store with ad hoc remedies that were not individually prescribed. Many sick room cages were also smeared with so much excessive feces that the dogs could not stand inside of them. When the store’s sick rooms were full, some sick puppies were moved to the sales floor and knowingly sold to unsuspecting families. Some families who purchased sick puppies later returned them to the store, where they were placed back into sick rooms instead of being brought to a veterinarian for medical treatment. The Humane Society also says the store purchased puppies from at least three brokers who hold B dealer licenses with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which is a violation of New York City’s pet shop law. Store staff members would refuse to share information about the breeders of puppies when asked by customers, which is also a violation of the pet shop law. The New York State legislature has twice considered legislation, The Puppy Mill Pipeline Act, to end the sale of puppies in pet stores statewide. If passed the state Senate this year, and next will be considered in the legislature. Anyone who has purchased a sick puppy from American Kennels or any other store in New York is urged to contact the New York State Attorney General’s Office. Buyers can also report a sick puppy to the Humane Society of the United States and local law enforcement agencies. “How many times do we have to see puppies sick, suffering and dying in these shops?” Goodwin says. “New York must join the five other states where laws have been passed to end the sale of puppies in pet stores.

If I could give negative scores, I would. When our puppy became sick I spoke with the manager. He was rude, threatening and told me he hopes I die. This place is dreadful and evil. I just recently saw a video of the place. That man is disgraceful. He needs to be fired. He is bad for business and bad for innocent animals. I will go to the Humane Society!!!!

DO NOT SUPPORT!!! I was planning on buying a puppy here but after I went to see them and saw the awful conditions they were in, I changed my mind. All the puppies here looked so sick and after doing some research I found out they source them from puppy mills so that explained it. PLEASE RESEARCH WHERE YOU’RE GETTING YOUR PETS FROM BEFORE YOU BUY!!!

Puppies held in atrocious conditions- health, sanitation, and cage conditions included, all coming from puppy mills. This place needs to be shut down due to their abuse and neglect of these animals. Adopt, do not shop.

Disgusting and appalling. The poor animals deserve homes but supporting a place like this puts more animals at risk. If you like animals enough to want to adopt one, don’t do it here.

This place should be shut down. They do not take care of their animals at all. The Humane Society revealed an undercover video and it showed a puppy dead from lack of medical care, employees stating that sick pups are sold all the time. Disgraceful!!! Do not support this business!

After hearing this store does not take it to vets when puppies are sick, and they suffer in the cage 24/7 and letting them die is not acceptable. This should NOT be happening. Please do not support puppies mill store where they suffer the puppies. PLEASE adopt instead. This is ridiculous and STOP THIS RIGHT NOW.

This disgusting place is under investigation for the horrible conditions and treatment that puppies get here. It must be shut down! These puppies are all from puppy mills and are sick to begin with and then they are mistreated by the store. Do not ever buy a puppy from a pet store, not ever!

If you like promoting places that allow dogs to lay in cages and die due to no vet care, then, by all means support them. If you approve of puppy Mills that raise millions of dogs in absolute squalor to sell to these pet stores, then by all means support them. Otherwise help shut this place down and either buy from a reputable breeder or adopt!!
