I've been bringing my mastiff there for several years. He's big, and gets really nervous - which makes him a terrible patient. He's really not well behaved at the vet and is intimidating because of his size and aggression. With that in mind we've used sedation for check-ups and as much as it makes for an unpleasant experience for everyone (especially for him and my wallet) I've done it to make sure everyone is safe. He's now just under ten years old. He's due for his yearly check-up, but because of his recent drastic weight loss, vomiting, lethargy and general Ill health we've decided that we have no other choice but to put him down. I spoke to them about bringing him in and they immediately tried to have me bring him somewhere else knowing he'd be a new patient for whoever I called, or suggested we make an appointment with them 10 days from now knowing full well that he is sick. That seems a little insensitive to say the least. When I continued to pressure the receptionist she continued to make excuses about Covid, staff shortages, his previous behavior and so on and even said he was late for his annual (which was due in late December). I get it. Covid sucks. It's made businesses have to work twice as hard to stay alive, but I'm calling you to put my family member to sleep. Where is the compassion? I told them that I'd look for someone else to do it and they couldn't of been happier. My advise to anyone looking for a new vet is to look elsewhere. They're not going to be there when it really counts.

I understand that you are choosing to not help new patients, but your menu offered an "if this is an emergency" option. What does that mean? I thought it meant you would help in an emergency. The woman who answered was so irritated. My cat is dying, can't keep in weight, and I just need help finding out where to go. She gets very frustrated and gives me the emergency services number. I admit, I began to cry. I have been calling so many people for help and no one has helped me and my cat has suffered for it. She hung up on me. She hung up on me as I was saying "thank to have a nice day" after she rudely blurted out the emergency phone number. I am leaving this review to remember to not use this place in the future. It's too bad.

I’m a matter of fact person when it comes to pets, and they’re very good about recognizing that and talk to me honestly about treatment and price options. But I’ve also seen them be very kind to pet owners not taking bad news well. A pet in distress can be an emotional roller coaster for the owner which they take in stride. I always appreciate this place and the staff

Called in today @ 12:15 to get an appointment for my dog and the woman that handled my call is beyond IGNORANT! To the owner, just know I was told to take my pet to westside clinic instead of coming to your facility, when my dog is a "patient" to this hospital! I wonder how many people you lose to the ignorance of those handling your phone calls. This woman argued with me the whole time I was on the call with her and then slammed the phone down in my ear and hung up before I was even done speaking. If she can't handle her job GET RID OF HER before you lose more people.

I’m a tech at another hospital, and my dog needed rehab after surgery. leah and Dr Sacks are amazing and have been so involved with Izzy’s recovery. They have been there at odd hours texting me during difficult times throughout this process and I 100% believe she would not be walking without them. They are truly great at what they do, and I will always recommend them from now on!

4 cats, 3 dogs, and I'm not going anywhere else. Fast, friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating... One of the best animal hospitals that I've ever taken my little babies to.

I 100% trust this staff with my 3 little fur babies. Having had terrible experiences with our previous vet, I take comfort in knowing that as this is a teaching hospital, I am receiving the best advice and care for animals. Highly recommend.

Best Vet's office in Buffalo. All the Vet's are very informative & know what they're doing. They also don't price gouge or take advantage of people with sick pets. They're very honest & trustworthy. I highly recommend them.

Updating my review. We did like this facility in the past, which is the reason for three stars despite an awful recent experience. One of the veterinarians suggested we let our cats roam outside to solve a behavioral issue. It’s my fault for taking this bad advice, but after one of my cats went missing they were hardly empathetic. I was really disappointed with their response. It even kind of felt like the vet who’d suggested it in the first place was avoiding talking to me after it happened. Also the wait times have been really awful lately. You end up sitting in your car for up to an hour. I understand being busy but it seems like the schedule could be better managed. I will be taking my cats elsewhere from now on.

They take very good care of my dogs. After my dog was neutered they call to check up and see how he was doing. Very caring staff!

They didn't care. My dog passed away 1 week later bc they didn't do enough to find the source of the problem. She was only 18 months

I have been with NIckel City Animal Hospital since they opened. I'd been with 2 other vets locally and NIckel City is, hands down, the best. The office staff, Sam and Claudia, are wonderful, knowledgeable, and compassionate. The veterinarians are excellent. I've meet all them over the years and have absolute confidence in there care recommendations. I seem to typically see Dr. Pletscher, she is wonderful. In an urgent situation, the Nickel City staff have always been there for me and my pets.

The veterinarians were kind to us and our lovely cats, and every animal I saw. They also trimmed the claws for us and made sure to take good care of my senior boy. Couldn't be happier to know that they're both okay and with such a kind staff :) we had two very happy customers afterwards!

I couldn't be more satisfied that I switched vets to Nickel City. The entire staff is kind and compassionate. They explain things in detail and there are no surprises. They are very caring and willing to do what it takes to make your pet better. My dog actually doesn't mind going to the vet at all now.
