I live close by and thought about switching to them since we moved. Last week, my furbaby passed away in route to the vets office. I first stopped here because they were so close and we were in a dire situation as my dog collapsed suddenly and I was panicked, not knowing what to do. I walked in thankful they were open (it was after5) and asked for help. Told them I don’t know what’s happening, I think my dog is dying or she is already dead. I was completely panicking, I know, but I was but I was told, very coldly, ‘well there’s no dr here’. I asked for a tech or ‘anyone that can help me that knows more about a dog than I do’. She came outside and said ‘I don’t know what u want me do.” I said anything to help her, and she said i could give her oxygen, but she’s already blue’. They than directed me to emergency clinic on genessee and told me to put the address in my phone because I didn’t know where it was. I cant say enough good about the emergency clinic BTW. They were wonderful I waited a few days to write this, but I was advised by several people, including a friend that was with me when all this happened, and told me I needed to call there. I understand if there was no dr there and they were limited with what they could do. But the lack of compassion and empathy they had was disturbing. Anyone who works for a vet knows how much people’s animals mean to them, so to be so non chalant about her being ‘blue’ and ‘nothing we can do’ was shameful for someone who works in that field. I’m sure their wonderful with thier existing patients, but I just hope that those 2 woman don’t ever have to feel their furbaby die in their arms and not know what to do or what happened.

After extensive research and weighing of the pros and cons of surgery, my daughter decided the best option for her 1yo puppy was to have ovarian sparing surgery. My daughter, an MSW at a Rochester hospital was not going to settle for anything but the best for her puppy. Again after more exhaustive research she decided upon Dr. Stein at Amhurst Small Animal Hospital because of his awards and accomplishments in the area of advanced anesthesia and pain management. I accompanied them on the day of surgery, to enter an unassuming brick building. Looks can be deceiving. Once inside and after meeting staff and sitting down with Dr Stein, it was obvious this was a top of the line Veterinary Practice. And I don’t make that statement lightly as I have been both a nurse practitioner and chief nursing officer in my career and know high quality staff and expert medical care when I see it. The staff were kind and welcoming, attentive to questions & concerns and treated my daughters puppy as if she were a little celebrity. Dr Stein’s passion and expertise in the area of pet anesthesia and pain management were clearly obvious as he explained the surgery. He had a caring, relaxed, and competent bedside manner, answering all questions and instilling confidence in my daughter that she had made the right decision for her puppy. And she was right- the surgery was successful and amazingly by the next day with Dr. Steins pain management plan in place, her puppy was acting like she had never had surgery at all, let alone major surgery. There is still has a two week recovery period ahead but with clear concise aftercare instructions, and regularly scheduled contact with Dr Stein regarding her progress, I’m confident our celebrity puppy will end up fully healed with a fully functional hormone system in place. I wholeheartedly recommend Dr Stein and his staff at Amhurst Small Animal Hospital- they deserve every positive accolade I could possibly give.

We just moved to Buffalo and have two dogs. I love the idea of happy visits so our dogs look forward to going to the vet. Every employee is amazing here. I was on crutches when we had an appointment and the staff helped me get my fur baby out to the car safely. The vet took the time to thoroughly explain what was going on. It means a lot to find someone I trust with my dogs.

Staff was very, very rude when I asked questions about their services. Acted annoyed and like she didn't care about anything I asked. When talking about a loved family dog being very sick, I would expect a vet to be understanding and compassionate. But nope, not here.

Dr. Stein and staff have been so great with my dog, Sookie. She absolutely LOVES going here and gets very excited to see everyone, which speaks volumes about how she is treated while in their care. I highly recommend them.

Until about 2 years ago I was a firm believer in early spay and neuter. I thought before 6 months was normal and before their first heat was what is best for the dog. My dog Melanie was spayed in the kill shelter she was born in at the age of 6 weeks. I never thought this would be an issue. I have since educated myself and that is what led me to question her back end staining further. For her whole life she has had staining on her back end. This staining was attributed to skin conditions around allergies, UTI's, and her having a red blanket that was staining her tail after her licking. It wasn't until I visited Dr. Stein for a check up that he was able to diagnose the problem. She had a recessed vulva due to being fixed so early. The problem has been rectified through reconstructive surgery and I would trust no other veterinarian to see my dogs for any health issues they are having. The staff and vets working at this office are second to none and the bedside manner of Dr. Stein and crew is so stress free. Dr. Stein tells it like it is and doesn't sugar coat the truth, if there is something that is best for the animal he lets you know what that course of action is, however he does so in such a professional manner that it never comes off the wrong way. You get the sense that he is looking out for your animal from the owners stand point. He is also very reasonable with pricing and you definitely get what you pay for. I was given a walk through of their monitoring procedure before my dog went into surgery and they treat it like a human hospital would. They have someone dedicated to the monitoring of the anesthesia for the entire procedure which ensures the dog is safe and goes under and comes out of anesthesia in the best way possible such as a human hospital would. It is truly the best experience an animal could have in Western New York in my opinion. I appreciate their level of dedication to the safety of my pet and the service I get for all my animals. Would recommend to anyone who needs a vet in the area due to not only service but the knowledge Dr. Stein and Dr. Zalenka share.

Dr Stein and his staff have cared for my pets for 20 years. I wouldn't take them anywhere else. I always feel welcome, they answer each and every question, make recommendations and treat my pet as if he was theirs. When I have to bring him in, even on short notice they see him, and fix him right up. We've had two surgeries there and NO problems whatsoever. Dr Stein has even saved an eye we thought was damaged permanently. This is an AWESOME office.

They used to be excellent. But they have deteriorated the last few years to the point I no longer trust them with my dog

My fur kids are the most important part of my life. ASAH has consistently taken care of them and I wouldn't have this trust in them if they hadn't proven their skills and professional philosophy with my family.

Dr Stein saved my pitbulls life. She was butchered by another veterinarian in the southtowns who destroyed her knee in what turns out to have been an unnecessary surgery! He has given her a 2nd chance at a normal life. Dr Stein, Dr Zalenka and the staff are an asset to our veterinarian community. I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone

Brought our pet in for elective surgery. Doctor was brusque and annoyed that we were asking questions about the procedure. Apparently we asked too many questions as he said to forget it and stormed out of the room. Not my idea of professional behavior. Look elsewhere.
