Dr. Appel is a fantastic doctor! He saw us as an emergency weekend case years ago. When the doctor was working on my dog’s ear, I knew it was not a pleasant procedure but my girl was wagging her tail – she picked him as her primary care provider ???? Now he is stuck with us. He performed a spay surgery on my second dog; but unfortunately what was supposed to be a routine procedure turned out to be a complicated case - the little one had infection going on in her uterus. Even though the surgery was quite invasive, the actual cut and stitches were so tiny. Thank you so much! In a nutshell, Dr. Appel is very caring and well-being of his patients is his top priority; I trust him 1000%.

So tonight my dog panda got into some chocolate cake and we are very concerned because we weren’t sure exactly how much she ate so I called Dr. Appel’s office and at 10 o’clock at night he was very responsive to come right in and took her immediately and he induced vomiting and was able to get up most of the chocolate cake that she ate. He was very kind and very responsive and very comforting because I was extremely nervous and concerned for her health. I would highly recommend him as a vet especially for emergency visits, is there 24 hours he answers his phone and will have you come right in no waiting and very reasonably priced. Happy we’re home and she’s resting comfortably.

Once again after pandemic it is hard to find a place where you can turn to in case of an emergency or for an urgent care. That was the only place, which was opened on the weekends, with the shorter waiting time possible. And guess why? The veterinarian is actually living above his practice. Great!!!. It is how all medical professionals should do. They did it in older times and not just for animals, for people too.

Super caring vet. Weve taken our 2 cats here for several years now and he always gets them better ???? it can be very busy and require a wait, but well worth it.

Dr. Appel, Evelyn and the staff at Fifth Avenue Veterinary Hospital are the BEST!! My chihuahua Princess is my best friend and we had been looking for a new vet ever since hers retired like 3 years ago. I've been to a few and didn't feel the right fit. I was recommended to Dr. Appel and am so happy. From the cute cottagey looking office to his confident, calming demeanor is what we needed. Princess needed surgery and I was a nervous wreck but he assured me he would take care of her and that he did. Other vets told me how dangerous the procedure was AND how expensive so I was hesitant on getting it done. Dr. Appel has 40 years experience that in itself told me he had seen it all. She had her surgery and she was home the same night! Thank you for taking care of Princess and all that you do, every day.

Our beautiful dog fell in the pool on Mother’s Day. We frantically rushed her to Dr. Appel’s practice. No words can describe how quickly he fought to save our dog’s life. Dr. Appel is an outstanding veterinarian, compassionate and highly knowledge in his field. Although our dog passed away due to illness and old age the following day, Dr. Appel revived her and we find great comfort knowing she was in his excellent care during this time. Moreover, his staff is just as compassionate, professional and kind as he is.

Ive had my Parakeets for about 3 years, all on healthy diets, fresh organic veggies, fruits, and sprouts, not just seed.. One day I noticed Sky, my female Keet, was not herself. Puffed up, tail bobbing, labored breathing, constantly falling from her perch. I know birds are good at hiding their illness, until its too late to do anything. And, I knew i had to act fast!! Panic, having no clue where to find an avian vet nearby, til i found Dr Appel...He took her right away, he gently examined her, and said she was underweight, and said he would need to do blood work in order to determine her illness, although, just by looking at her she did not seem in distress. if i wanted to avoid the expense of bloodwork, he suggested first to put her on some antibiotics for a week and see how she felt. He gave her a shot of her first dose and for a week i administered her meds orally, with a tiny syringe. Kept her in a heated area, in quarantine, and after 3 days she was fully recovered. God Bless Dr Appel for saving my little girl. His compassion, and patience alone is reason for me to continue going to him for my pets needs.

Dr. Appel took exceptional care of our dog Zuzu during a very difficult and hard to detect infection. Zuzu was hospitalized and under the doctor’s care for several days. She was very well cared for during her stay. Doctor Appel obviously loves animals and has our Zuzu on the road to recovery after her tick bite. Being new to Bay Ridge, are lucky to have such a wonderful veterinarian close by. Thank you Dr. Appel!!

Dr. Roy Appel is an extraordinary, caring and devoted veterinarian. My Shih Tzu had bladder stones and a blockage. I found Fifth Avenue Veterinary Hospital and Dr. Appel examined him immediately on a Sunday. He throughly and carefully explained all the options available to help my little guy. I felt very comfortable leaving him there for surgery and a 3 day stay, as the doctor can be available 24 hours on the premises. The entire staff is very courteous and helpful. The office is sanitary and clean. Dr. Appel and his staff answered my many telephone calls and questions without hesitation. I was able to call the doctor any time of day or night and he always returned my calls. Dr. Appel’s knowledge of veterinary medicine and surgery is clear and Fifth Avenue Veterinary Hospital has comprehensive, compassionate and quality care for animals!

Dr. Appel, ???? saved my dog. I had taken her to another emergency clinic where they didn’t even give her medication for her infection. She wouldn’t eat, she was peeing on herself in bed, she was dying. I took to Dr Appel and as always he came through and she’s bright and vibrant as she’s ever been!! Before taking my cat to Dr. Appel, I had tried countless other vets in the Brooklyn area. I was dismayed to say the least. That all changed when I went to see Dr. Appel, he is straightforward, caring, and treats both the animals and humans with respect and dignity.

I had a scare with my cat and wanted to get him to a vet right away. The woman I talked to on the phone was the sweetest and a couple hours later I was bringing him in. Dr Appel was amazing and talked me through all the steps he could take but never pressuring me. I decided to follow all his suggestions, and even with x-rays and pain meds it was so affordable. I highly recommend Dr Appel!

This review is long overdue.  But everytime I look at my dear cat Leif, I am reminded that he is only here with me today because of Dr. Appel saving his life. In December of 2019, my cat Leif started exhibiting symptoms of a urinary blockage.  Because of how life and death this condition can be, I wasted no time in taking him into emergency care to get treated.  My usual vet, One Love Animal Hospital had closed for the night, so I quickly researched emergency vets that were still open late in the evening. That's when I found Dr. Appel and his team over at Fifth Avenue Veterinary. Dr. Appel has well over 20+ years of experience in animal medicine and care.  He was through in explaining what was happening with my cat and gave me multiple options on how to treat him.  My cat ended up have multiple urinary blockages  over the course of a month and a half, and I ended up having to get the PU surgery done for him.  During the course of the treatments, Dr. Appel and his staff were kind, patient, and made me feel like they were treating my cat as one of their own pets.  Vet care is expensive, and can be very costly, but never did I once feel like Dr. Appel was pushing anything extra or being insensitive to my finances and situation.  Dr. Appel is at times very straightforward and tells you exactly what is going on, but I respect that honestly and direct approach.  I felt completely comfortable and trusted him with the life of my cat Leif, and I am so happy that I did! He regularly called me while Leif was being hospitalized and gave me updates and put my mind at ease. He was also never too busy to take my calls or calm me down when times got extremely stressful. Months later after the surgery, Leif is completely healed and able to dispose of his urination.

Dr. Appel is extremely smart, dedicated, talented and honest. Two weeks ago he performed eye surgery on my cat and the stitches came out today. He fixed the problem and the eye looks great. Thanks Dr. Appel!

Very compassionate and kind doctor. I had to take my sweet 18 year old cat in at 2am because her legs stopped working. Unfortunately I knew that it was her time to cross the rainbow bridge. Dr. Appel did not try to sell me on fake promises of making her better, and handled the situation with empathy. I was able to stay with my Mia as long as I need to to say my goodbyes. I asked to have the remains after cremation, and they were packaged very nicely with a sweet card, a paw print from my baby, and a little heart I could plant that will grow wildflowers. The price was very fair, and he made the process as easy as it could be considering the already difficult situation. When I am ready to love another pet, I will take them to Dr. Appel for care.

they are amazing extremely friendly, helpful and just wonderful the doctor helped my leopard gecko, who wasn't eating and just sat with an extremely thin tail, and since it was an emergency after 8 it wasn't that expensive like other places who over charge you for just looking at your pet.
