This is my first time doing a review for a business and after reading some reviews, I thought it extremely important to give this business a 5-star review. I understand everyone has different experiences; however, I cannot say enough good things about Chenango Animal Hospital. My dogs have been seen by a home vet for 15 years and he moved away. The vet I choose for them to see for the past year, abruptly closed at end of 2021. I found a vet that was supposed to see my 2 dogs next week. Well, as luck would have it my one dog hurt his leg on Friday night, with no vets open until Monday, we kept him calm until Monday when the vet opened back up as the only emergency vet for this area is at Cornell and it seemed like it could wait a bit. I called the new vet on Monday morning and they were unable to get him in, said to take him to Ithaca (Cornell or Colonial), and they had an extremely long waiting list. I called both vets in Ithaca and only Cornell could see him but if he needed an admission or surgery, they would have to refer him someplace else (my thought was where? Syracuse after we have already drove 1 ½ hours to get to Ithaca). They also quoted me $500 to $700 just for him to be seen. Money was not an issue, but I did not like the way they presented it. I then asked around and my friend said to call Chenango Animal Hospital. They initially told me they really didn’t have any openings, but I am not sure if it was my crying at that point or because I did bring my cat there many years ago, but they had me bring him that day. Everyone who we delt with that day was extremely helpful, friendly, and made the visit as best as possible given they are not letting people in the building. The entire process was flawless, and they only charged my $60 for the visit (plus some other stuff they did but the entire visit was less than $200 – nowhere near the $500 to $700 Cornell was charging). I decided to switch both my dogs to this practice and made an appointment for my other dog for next week. Then the next day, she (15 ½ year old golden retriever), suddenly took a turn for the worse. I called them first thing in the morning, and they did not hesitate to see her immediately. Unfortunately, she had a stroke and we had to make the hard decision. Again, the entire staff was professional, understanding, compassionate, etc. and made the entire extremely devasting process seamless. We were able to be with her during the entire process even though they are not letting people in the building and the cost was very reasonable. Please understand when maybe they can’t get your pet in, they might not be the friendliest (maybe they are having a stressful day), or you have to wait a bit in your car, that maybe it is because they are taking care of an emergency situation(s) like they did for me yesterday. I want to thank the entire staff for taking care of my dogs this week. My entire family thanks you for all you did this week for my puppies!!

I told them I had a budget, and to call me if it will be more. They never called to give me an estimate, and just assumed I had the money. They took care of my pup pup, but customer service could use some help.

If mask work, why do I have to sit in my car while my dog is inside? If I have an appointment why can't they let people in one at a time at their scheduled appointment time. Not happy with their services...not professional . I sat in my car for an hour.

I would not recommend this vet for "exotic animals" such as rabbits or guinea pigs.

Do not go here. Had a gripe about a 700 spay bill after being quoted 500 office would not return phone call at all. I have called them 3x today alone NO customer service skills at all. They treat your animals like slot machines , just trying to see how much money they can get out of them. Rude staff uneducated office workers. I have requested the name of the office manager and was told oh don't know the name sorry. How do you not know the name of your office manager? I've had nothing besides problems here in the last year please save yourself the trouble and find a vet that cares about your animals. This is not it. Read other reviews this place is just bad.also had a very unethical situation go on too long to type out but I am contacting the NYS board to report the misconduct

I called to make appointment for my cat on October 14; earliest they could get me in was October 23 at 10:30 AM. I said ok. I show up at day and time and they tell me they had no record of me calling. They refused to get us in and WOULD NOT give me my pet’s records when I told them I’m done with them after 20+ years and numerous pets. My wife had appointment with our dog 3 days prior. After waiting in parking lot for 2 1/2 hours they finally told her they couldn’t see the dog because they were understaffed. Two others were waiting after making appointments. If they are understaffed then why are they making so many appointments at the same time. AND WHY DO THEY HIRE INCOMPETENT RECEPTIONISTS THAT CANT MAKE APPOINTMENTS CORRECTLY!!!

It was okay, just okay. The vet tech that took my cat fir blood work, was like a stepford wife. Not at all sociable. No chit chat. Our pets are our family. At least pretent to be interested.

I have been a client there with my 3 dogs i just called to see if I could get my puppy spayed because I have a giant breed who for health reasons cannot be neutered yet and I didnt want an accident . The receptionist was beyond rude. I was simply asking questions about availability and the women was so rude I asked if they recordethwir calls because she was so rude and she hung up on me. I have spent thousand of dollars at this facility and not only are their no accommodations made for a hard situation your treated sooo rudly. I understand sometimes things can't be helped but why be rude to your clients. I will be finding a new vet.

Been taking my dog there for years but during covid they really showed their real quality and how they only care about turning a profit. They sent my dog back to me covered in vomit and tried telling me it happened In my own car basically calling me a liar and even tho she's only 10 pounds they put on her records that 10 people have to restrain her for a muzzle.. the entire staff I dealt with are the most unprofessional most frustrating staff in the triple cities. They were dismissive and uncaring after I swiped my card and they got what they wanted. If you love and care about your animals go somewhere else if I could rate this a 0 I would have. Never coming back.

I have had nothing but positive experience with everyone I have dealt with. I feel that our little dog boy is under great medical supervision with Dr. Walley. The staff has always been very responsive and friendly to us.

Called the other day to try and get my dog seen that was having servere diarrhea issues. They told me the earliest they could see her was a week later by then she would probly be dead. I told them I have been there with my cat witch they where good and treated me well but my dog had never been there I feel as thow they did not want to be bothered to help me or my dog. I was considering in the future bring my cat in again if he needed anything but after this incident I will look for a more caring place

Super friendly receptionists, technicians and veterinarians! They've been amazing to work with for providing care to my very cranky cat Scully, and they do their best to make the visits as stress free as possible for both of us.

Long wait for scheduled appointment. Don't like not being allowed in with my dog. Understand the need to not be allowed in during the pandemic but everyone else is letting people into their business. Long time customer at Chenango having taken 4 golden retrievers over the years.

I had to take my dog Riley to an appointment that was at 5. I got there around 4:40 and called 15 times and nobody answered the phone up until 5 when another person parked next to me and called and got in as soon as she got there and told a vet who had come out to get her dog that nobody was answering the phone to get me checked in yet. 6 people got there after me and left before me. Dr. Gaylord was unfriendly and unprofessional when speaking to her on the phone about my dog. They brought my dog in around 5:10 and back out at 5:15 and I was there waiting to talk to the vet until 5:50 sitting in my car. They are also expensive.

I have never delt with a more ridiculous situation in my time of having pets. To make me sit and wait for 25 minutes past my appointment time to then tell me you are out of the vaccine my dog needs? And then for the front desk person to be rude when I'm understandably frustrated and upset? Absolutely unacceptable. I will never be back and I would NEVER suggest this hospital to anyone with pets.

Do NOT bring your pet here. The middle aged/older woman receptionist has zero customer service skills. Dr Gaylord and the staff act like they dont like animals and made and my pet and I feel really uncomfortable. The most unprofessional business i have ever seen. It has gone downhill it used to be a nice place, it is disgusting they are even in business. I wouldnt have given it a star but had to to write this.

I had my dogs boarded here while I was out of town. They called me to say one of them was sick and that I should come pick him up.... The animal hospital sent my sick dog home.

Very expensive , but they do get the job done, also have no emergency services after business hours, left to fend for ourselves and drive down to PA handful of times over past 3 years. Binghamton should be a large enough area to have a 24 hr animal hospital!

Variable service over the years with my cats. My 3 most recent visits were not positive. The vet was not helpful. She spent more time chastising me than she did listening to me/paying attention to treating my cat. This last visit, they couldn't even remember that my cat is a female even though I told them, they did her spay and they have her records for 14 years. I am changing my veterinarian.

My vet couldn't get me in for two weeks and I was able to get an appointment here. I was a little hesitant after reading some of the reviews. One person said don't go to Dr Gaylord. Well, that's who I got and I thought she was great. I had never been there before and had to bring in my 17 year old cat. Dr Gaylord was very caring and professional. She answered all my questions and took great care of my cat. I thought the whole staff was very helpful and professional.

This facility is extremely unprofessional, the vet lacks communication skills, and they are not about saving or even helping your fur baby - they are about the $$$!! On Thursday 1/21/21, my dog was viciously attacked by a much bigger dog - when I took my fur baby to their facility I was informed that they were not able to even start a treatment to help save my babies life without a down payment. They provided me with the first estimate, which required a $550 down payment to just start treatment - as I struggled to figure out how to come up with the money right on the spot - they then offered a second estimate, informing me that it would just be basic care. As I'm in my car trying to figure out what to do, I am then approached with a third option - this option is $160, no actual treatment - they would send my dog back home with me with open wounds, some pain medication, and instructions on how to keep the wounds from getting infected. They are much more worried about the All Might Dollar, than they are about our furry little family members. After figuring out the finances, I made sure that my baby got the best chance at survival - Paid $550 for her to have x-rays, stay overnight for observation, and have her open bleeding wounds cleaned stitched and stapled back together. I got a phone call that Thursday night, letting me know how the x-rays turned out and that my baby was doing well. Friday morning I called the vets office to find out when I could pick her up, and I was scheduled to pick her up at 3. I was also scheduled to return on Monday at 1 to have a drainage tube removed. I arrived at 3 to pick up my baby and explained that unfortunately I did not have the remaining balance ($390) being that I just put $550 down less than 24 hours prior - also tried to explain that the man who owns the dog that attacked my dog, fully admitted to being responsible for the vet bill - but they weren't hearing it. They had me sign a payment agreement to have the balance paid by February 2nd, which I was fine with. Fast forward to Monday at 1 - I take my baby back to have the drainage tube removed. I call into the office (due to Covid, we can't go in) and let them know that I am in the parking lot and there for her appointment. I am then informed that they are "Declining services" because there is a balance due on the account. I was never informed that without the balance paid that they would not provide services to my dog that they already scheduled, and that are necessary - especially after a payment agreement was signed. I got quite upset when they told me that they would not be removing her drainage tube and the woman on the phone had an attitude and said to me "Well, you want us to render services when you don't want to pay the bill?" It's not that I DON'T WANT TO - it's that I financially can't at this moment - I unfortunately don't have almost $1000 to pay a vet visit in a 24 hour time period. I absolutely copped an attitude back with the woman on the phone, and she hung up on me. I had to call back, request a copy of the payment agreement (because they didn't give me one on Friday, to see where the policy says that they would not render services with a balance due) - i stood outside on hold for 20+ minutes, they finally brought the agreement out, and there is NOTHING in that agreement saying they would decline future services. They ended up removing the drainage tube. I then asked if the vet could call me later to discuss a couple questions i had. The response I was given - "We don't make the vets schedule, so I don't know if they will call you or not - but I can ask." Still have not heard from the vet. I have asked that the vet call me on a couple occasions because I have questions about the healing process, and some other questions about getting her staples removed - I have not heard from the vet!! Even when I went to pick my girl up on Friday - the vet never came out to talk to me, I dealt with the receptionist who didn't have answers to any of my questions.
