Just went to the shelter - This place puts so many BARRIERS between people wanting to adopt and actually getting it done. They never answer the phone so I drove 20 min. They turned us away at the Door. 1. We have to choose the pet online 2.FEES -FEES -FEES 3. The staff chooses US “for a good fit”. Not the other way around. 4. ALL members of a household have to be there 5. We have to meet the animal and take it home the SAME DAY. ( BTW - they’re a little rude, acting like extreme gatekeepers to pets most people don’t want) They’re doing a disservice to the animals. I’m going to Petsmart for adoption ????????‍♂️

Staff is very warm and welcoming. Went with my sister so she could adopt a cat. The cat area is open for walk-ins so you can just come in and go see the kitties in that area. It was quick and painless doing a meet and greet with the kitty we were interested in. There was a short wait as there was only one room available to use to meet but it gave us an opportunity to go around and look at the others as well as ask questions and fill out the paperwork. Dogs are by appointment only so make sure you plan ahead if you are interested in meeting a dog. The adoption process was very easy and informative. Staff is very knowledgeable. I recommend coming here to find your Forever family member. Adopt don't shop!

I have always supported this establishment but until recently I don’t know if I can anymore. The way they handled a particular situation was very discouraging. A local family who lost their cat Hunter after making posters and plastering his face and information all over social media and even emailed this Humane Society were told that their cat was up for adoption by a friend that was browsing the site. It took the Humane Society five days to respond to an email sent from the owner and they finally did respond an hour after he was adopted. They posted a picture of the couple who adopted him on their Facebook page and all this family wanted was for the Humane Society to just reach out to the people that adopted their cat and just give them their information in hopes that the couple would do the right thing and contact the family and give them their cat back. The family even said that they would pay for the couple to adopt another cat. The Humane Society told them that there was nothing that they could do and proceeded to block and restrict accounts that were sharing and talking about the story on their social media since the family decided to take it upon themselves to share the picture of the couple in hopes that someone would know them. They also called the cops on the owner for harassment. The family had an article written about the whole experience in the Times Union newspaper. The Humane Society called and complained about that and tried getting the article taken down. They delete every comment on their Facebook that had to do with this story and every review on Google they also try to delete. Everyone understands that this is just how the adoption process works and they stated on their Facebook page that to avoid this in the future to get your animal micro chipped. Not everyone can afford to get their pet micro chipped and accidents happen all the time. All the Humane Society had to do was just give the couple that adopted Hunter the owners information and let those two people take it upon themselves to possibly do the right thing. The Humane Society even had workers and volunteers stalking the owners Facebook page, one of them even accidentally sent her a friend request and then proceeded to remove it shortly after. This is just a very sad situation. Do better MHHS!

A clean and wonderful facility. The workers were really nice and the animals were adorable. The dogs were huge and loud and the cats and rabbits were really cute.

I love this place. They worked with me on a budget sliding scale to get the stray cat I found and adopted to get dewormed, spayed, and a general look over. Great staff. Please donate redeemable bottles to them to help raise money.

Slightly organized chaos. Dogs up for adoption were angry, afraid and anxious, with a couple of exceptions who were nearly collapsed with fear. Incomplete information on dogs provided. For example, two "Korean meat" dogs were available, but there was zero mention made of the fact that these are deemed dangerous dogs and in some countries, one must have a permit to own. Dogs shown as available during the visit, were nowhere to be found. Is it a coincidence that these dogs were either purebred or possessed of a calm and sweet nature? Are staff members, friends, and Board members getting these dogs? When I told shelter worker that some dogs were shown as available concurrent with visit, she denied any knowledge of the dogs and said they were not available.

Awful place. They do not care for the animals and only the money. They just adopted out a cat they claimed to be a stray when it wasn’t. The family had been emailing but the shelter ignored their emails. Don’t forget they are a kill shelter too even though they try to hide it. They’re awful there. I adopted a sick cat just cause they wouldn’t provide his medical care and was about to put him down because he was old and they didn’t want to spend the money on him. Let’s not forget all the 911 calls Menands get because they take in peoples animals and refuse to give them back without getting money for the animal. They only care about money. Disgusting place and staff :)

We went there one day because I was needing a pick me up and we had been talking about getting me a service dog. When we went there I didn’t think we would find anything I wanted but when we walked through the dog room I saw Mason Z. He’s been the best dog I could’ve asked for and has been in training for a bit over a month to be my service dog. We met with him twice before adopting and the staff was amazingly helpful through it all. They explained the adoption process and were honest about what dogs might not be a good fit. They put all of his paperwork together neatly and even supplied an extra leash and collar. When we signed all the forms they gave us an adoption goody bag with everything from doggie bags to a bag of food. The staff is amazing and they don’t discriminate based off dog breed. They don’t treat any dogs like they’re mean or bad and they set a great example for how they should be treated.

I have called multiple times everyday in the designated hours for the loved for life program. No response whatsoever.

Beware of this place. If I could give zero stars I would. They will adopt your pet away to someone else and then do nothing to help. Then on top of all of it they will try to cover it up and delete all evidence of the situation

Staff was rude and condescending. They act like you're wasting their time.

Awful! ignored a family's constant emails and calls about their lost cat. 5 das later adopted the cat out and basically told the family " tough" because they took too long to contact them! (even though they contacted the shelter within 2 days!). I hope that family sues the pants off of them!

I take my recycling bottles and cans there. I've had my dog spayed, and I've bought a DNA kit for my dog. I wholeheartedly support the Mohawk Hudson humane society

Genuinely awful people. To ignore a family looking for their beloved pet, and then adopting out that pet and doing absolutely nothing to make it right- terrible. And then they’ll delete and block whoever mentions it. If you’re trying that hard to hide it, you know damn well what you guys did was beyond wrong. Aren’t you supposed to care for the animals and create new families? Instead they’d rather rip apart a family. What trash you people are.

Their website SPECIFICALLY states to email to coordinate identification if you see your pet on their stray page but will ignore you and then give your cat up for adoption to someone else without even giving you the chance to get them back. They should NOT be responsible for taking in stray animals if they don't have the time to respond to the OWNERS who are looking for them! Cancel their contracts! Management needs to be fired and restructured to be FOR THE ANIMALS AND THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE THEM!!! ????????????

Very ignorant people volunteer and work here. It’s all about the $ for them. Maybe give people their pets back and not “adopt” them out for money. Truly an awful place

Friendly staff! Very clean facility, They are taking the dogs on walks and spending quality time with them ensuring happy shelter life. The cats also got large rooms with toys and kitty exercise equipment! I adopted and received extensive knowledge about my pet along with all vet history and procedures while in their care, their vet was more than happy to come talk to me in person as well about any concerns I had. Highly recommend donating or adopting from this facility!
