Special Care Grooming Albuquerque, New Mexico

Let me start by saying the groomer did a fantastic job. She took great care of my kitty, and gave her exactly the grooming I was looking for. My issue, and hence my 1 star review, lies in failure to communicate, and failure to have pricing visible in store or on website. I called to book an appointment here about 2 weeks ago. One of the first things I asked was how much it would cost to have my cat groomed. I was told the price would be $85 unless my cat was hard to handle the price would go up. My cat has been groomed her whole life and is not an issue, so I wasn’t worried. I made an appointment and took my cat in. There was a little confusion over how to groom my cat even though I had sent pictures in before hand as requested. We got that sorted out and I was told I could pick her up in 1 hour and 15 minutes. I arrived to collect her just as the groomer was finishing up. Upon check out I was told I needed to pay $172. I explained that I just had the one cat and it should be $85 as they had already agreed she was not hard to handle. Then they informed me that just the grooming is $85 and groom plus bath starts at $150. I this still didn’t add up so I am assuming an additional $10 was charged for nail trimming…. I’m really not sure but the pricing is ridiculous and the fact that I can’t find that pricing info anywhere, AND it’s not was communicated to me at booking, I cannot leave a good review. I had to pay DOUBLE what I was told and I cannot see a good reason for it, nor do I see the value in it. As far as I have seen in all experiences of having my cat groomed, the grooming includes bath, haircut, nail trim, ear cleaning…. And $85 is a little high, but seems to be a pretty standard rate these days. To charge $172 is unacceptable and ridiculous and the worst part is, they weren’t up front about it. If that is your price and you have people willing to pay it, great. I can’t afford that. I now have to completely readjust my budget for this week because communication was not clear with this business.

First appointment for my Standard poodle, Dillon. On a very busy day, the professionals at Special Care did a beautiful job! I came back to pick up, and my dog was clean, very well groomed, and so happy! So was I!

Been coming to SCG for about a year now and in all that time, there has yet to be ANYTHING I could possibly complain about. Fantastic work!

I took my Shih Tzo to be groomed. They were great. He looked amazing. I had been to several groomers and was not satisfied till today. They didn't keep him long and they were professional, friendly,and just great .

Thank you for explaining all I needed. I'm babysitting for my friend who is deployed an I'm the furrygodmother.. Oreo is so handsome and feels like a baby sheep.. He wasn't all freaked out and luved his visit. Not a single issue for me to worry about as I'm entrusted with their baby. Thank you soo much!!! God bless an prosper you.

This is by far the best groomer in Albuquerque! I regret not knowing about it before. My small toy poodle mix has never been so beautiful, fluffy, and girly! Thank you so much for this beautiful experience, I will recommend you guys for sure!

We took our cat for her first grooming today. Betts was our groomer, and she did an excellent job. Everyone there is very nice. I watched our cat be groomed, and saw other pets being groomed also. They all do an excellent job, and they are great with the pets! I highly recommend them.

I've been taking my big dogs here for a few years. They always come home gorgeous and happy!

Excellent, talented, professional service, the staff treats your pet as if their own. With the current requirements curbside service is done safely with no contact.

They lived up to their name and really did take special care of our girl.

I use to love this dog groomer. Sadly, last time I went there was a new lady working who cut half my dogs tail hair off!!! I also asked if she could trim around his private area on his bottom and it was so butchered. The layers on his hair were so choppy. I understand mistakes happen but my dog looked horrible. I tried to call to get a refund for the bad hair due and she said they would mail me a check and I can never go back to their salon. I’m starting to wonder if I even spoke with the REAL owner of this store, but I would have never returned anyways. By the way I never received my refund last month...... beyond disappointing

I am so pleased with our experience at Special Care Grooming. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and really gives attention to detail. My dog, Gypsy, has been to several groomers in NE Albuquerque and they are by far the best. Their comprehensive grooming package is definitely a cut above the rest. When I picked Gypsy up, she was calm and happy- something that hasn't happened at other establishments.

They really do a good job of grooming your pet.

For once I had a groomer who actually listened to how I wanted my dog to be groomed, and paid about $20 cheaper than the other places we’ve been going. Highly satisfied with the service and cost. We will keep coming back. Also they had a small timeslot open and were able to fit us in on the same day we called.

Stacy always looks, feels, and smells great after a visit to Special Care Grooming. Sharon is very attentive and goes the extra mile to insure her customers (human & canine) are satisfied. We've been happy clients for over 12 years!

We love SCG! We have a Havanese and Lowchen. Typically both breeds are long haired. But I request a shorter, simpler "puppy" cut. And boy do Sharon and Liz deliver! I get so many compliments on their looks. I take both of them at the same time. It usually takes 2 1/2 hrs and they are finished promptly. I am particular how my pups looks, as most folks are. Sharon and Liz enter my special requests in their computer. They bring issues they notice to my attention. For example, one dog has eczema. They point any new outbreak to me. And my special requests are always addressed. I trust SCG and highly recommend them.

I am very pleased with this local business, my Alaskan Malamute is suoer fluffy now!

Sharon truely has a passion for what she does and is a true talent. She shows it in her business, her staff, her care for the dogs. I wouldnt go any where else. I love love her.....as long as I have dogs I will take them Special Care Grooming.

The staff are super professional and friendly.They took the time to suggest and help us find a haircut that fit the needs of us and our pooch. She accommodated for a last minute walk in appointment. Overall they were friendly, caring and provided an atmosphere that was clean, well maintained,and a safe place for our pet. Would highly recommend!

We've been using Special Care Grooming for years. Four of our dogs have been groomed there, initially two Golden Retrievers, one who was being groomed by Special Care Grooming when she was over 14 years old. We currently have them grooming our Belgian Shepard and a younger Golden. The Belgian Shepard is so fond of being groomed there, that she is enthusiastic when we arrive to drop her off. We've never had an issue. Getting the dogs to go through the gate when being dropped off is never an issue. They are well taken care of and absolutely beautiful when we pick them up. They are always ready to be picked up, when they say they will be. We've used other groomers prior to finding Special Care Grooming. We can't recommend Sharon and her staff any more highly.

If you want to be sure that your pet is treated with kindness, patience and sweet attention to details this is the best place to take your pet. The owner, Sharon has a way with animals (dogs and cats!) that is amazing. You dont ever have to be afraid that once you leave your pet they will get lost in a shuffle of other pets and rushed(and terrified) through their groom. Sharon and the other ladies that work for her take the time to be tender and sweet with the animals. This is a top quality salon! I will NEVER take my dogs anywhere else!!
