Best vet! So friendly and welcoming. The vet will never be a favorite for our dog but this place almost won her over. My best recommendations!

2022 update: We moved upstate spring 2021 and REALLY miss this vet. Compared to our options upstate, this office is so responsive, gives my dog great attention, and always makes me feel like they truly care about Dougie. I've also seen just how skilled they are handling dogs. Dougie is afraid of the vet up here to the point he needs medication, but this office was always able to manage Dougie's anxiety to keep it as low as possible. He's critically ill and hospitalized upstate but they are willing to review his records and make recommendations on specialists/ongoing care despite us being gone for several months. They truly go above and beyond and I feel lucky to have chosen them as our vet nearly four years ago. This place has been in the neighborhood for as long as I can remember, and I grew up in the neighborhood for 20 years. When I got my own dog, I was unsure of where to go that could understand that my deaf pitbull is not dangerous and could treat him with empathy. I didn't want to go somewhere that would overcharge or take advantage of me either. After I chose Urban Vets to try out, I had made an appointment and needed to change it really last minute and they were extremely accommodating. Then when I came for the appointment the receptionist was extremely loving and attentive to my dog, who was admittedly a little nervous. The vet tech was very gentle with my dog, who's deaf and has a history of reactivity towards men. He even took the time to go through his medical records with me and explain what the different procedures meant and why he was recommending the services he was. The vet was very gentle with my dog as well, my dog didn't even flinch when being given a shot! They let me stand in the room with them to soothe him and appeared very confident and knowledgeable. The next day the receptionist gave me a call to see how my dog was doing since he got the shot, and she genuinely sounded happy to hear that he was doing well. Having taken my dog to the vet upstate, I thought the prices were extremely reasonable. I'm very satisfied having a team of professionals at Urban Vets that seem to really care about helping me keep my dog healthy :)

Being first visit for my cat Twotone I find it that the associates at this office was on point with their formation to their customers. They showed care in how the pets were treated.

I like to thank Dr. Cohen at Urban Vets for making my Bella (Toy Poodle) better. She had a bad case of stomach virus. They treated her with antibiotics, fluids & injection. By the time I reached home, she was already feeling better. Also, the staff is great. Elvin, Eddie & Vanessa.

The staff is knowledgeable, courteous, and patient with both pets and owners. Reasonably priced, great follow up. I highly recommend.

In May my cat needed emergency surgery, -we were taking in IMMEDIATELY ????????!( Blood tests- right away, ultrasound- next morning, and the surgery was done the same day!!!, Extremely fast, with compassion, urgency, absolutely professional, super- caring and accommodating- all your beloved pet could possibly need at the moment!????????????. My cat Phoenix recovered super fast, happy healthy, playful,- and I’m thanking Dr. Cohen , Alwin( sorry if I misspelled your name????), Yolanda and Christina every single day for saving my beloved Phoenix life ! ????????. I was given a kitten found in a parking garage. I am not a cat person, but my daughter fell in love with her. We didn't known anything about cats let alone kittens. Urban pets Animal Hospital staff was so informative and super sweet. I was told it was a girl and was 5 weeks old. They informed me about pet insurance and how to care for her. I am forever grateful to them and my new addition to the family.

after becoming dissatisfied with another veterinary practice in the neighborhood, i decided to try urban vets. i have two german shepherd dogs, and these folks have thus far been excellent in treating them. appointments are easy to get, the receptionist is very friendly and helpful, and the wait time is never long. on our latest visit, i was particularly impressed with how comfortable all of the staff (receptionist, vet tech, and vet) were with eva, my younger dog. she is a high energy seventy four pound german shepherd, and i am accustomed to her making people nervous. these people had no problem with her, and their easy, calm energy brought out her best behavior. we had the issue we came for addressed, and they provided the medication she needed the next day (after her bloodwork was done). i want to especially mention the vet tech, whose name i think is ervin. he is really good with my dogs, even the jumpy younger one, and manages them during procedures in a way that keeps them calm. this is a good place.

Everyone here is so sweet and helpful! My dog has some behavior issues and gets very anxious when going to the vet. They are always super understanding and try their absolute best to make him feel more comfortable. They are also extremely patient with us and will always take the time to answer all my questions. Highly recommend!!

The doctor and employees are top notch!! Highly recommend. I have a tiny dog and they treated her amazingly, I am a client for good!

Don't bring your pet to Dr. Edmund Orok-Edem. I brought my dog in for allergy-type symptoms, and he never tried to actually diagnose what was going on: he never asked any in-depth questions or explained what conditions might be causing her problems. He took nearly 5 minutes with a syringe in her leg to draw blood for a standard blood test. In the end, all he did was prescribe a broad slate of meds (antibiotics, antihistamine, steroid,...) that cost well over $100. Overall, the visit cost over $400. The next day, he called back with her blood test results. He just asked "is your dog okay?" and said something vague about abnormal results and "wait and see". I had to request the lab report myself and talk to another doctor to find out that she could be having serious heart or liver problems. The other doctor recommended against giving her meds because of this, and my dog's respiratory symptoms got completely better without the expensive meds. In my dog's case, I believe that Dr. Orok-Edem was incompetent and irresponsible. I am absolutely going somewhere else for the follow-up exam. (The vet tech, Elvin, and the receptionist were fantastic, though. Other reviews say that Dr. Howard Cohen is great, but I never saw him at all.)

Exceptionally friendly and professional staff! Quick easy appointment setting, fast check up and super responsive and knowledgeable when listening and answers questions. So glad they are my neighborhood veterinary clinic!

My dog Oko(Ocho) have been treated at Urban Vets for many years. I couldn't find a better place to have my Oko taken care of. I thank Dr. Cohen and the whole staff for being so wonderful with my dog and the respect and amiability with me. Thank you so very much.

They made us wait out side in a 90 degree weather we had to sit outside on the floor and pay 300 dollars for 3 shots very very upset not professional at all. Better off at petco never again will I give them my puppy or money ????

Just took my second kitty to Urban Vets for the first time, they made me and my kitty feel welcome immediately. One of the few Vets where I feel like they actually care about my animals!!!

Very sweet personnel. Took the time after visits to discuss care and other personalized instructions. They are understanding when it comes to financial hardships and makes sure to be transparent up-front about costs so that you don't get any surprise bills. Highly recommend.

EDIT: Wrote this review a year ago and i still stand by every word! Love this team! Dr. Cohen and Elvin are amazing. When I first rescued it was hard to find a vet in NYC that was fair priced and convenient- they are both. I went to other vets at first and didn’t feel comfortable as a first time owner, but these guys are so kind and helpful telling me everything I need to know! They make sure my dog is healthy and happy and I couldn’t trust them more. I hope this review helps someone like other reviews helped me! Highly recommend.

Bookie and I love Urban Vets Animal Hospital. Ever since I got my Boy Bookie they have been my go to whenever I was unsure what was wrong with him. I usually get a appointment fast. Shoutouts to the staff Stephanie for always giving me great advice whenever I’ve called. Also to Elvin for his positive and professional experience with dogs that make me more at ease. I’ve been bringing my 4 year old dog to Urban Vets for the past 3 years. There has never been a visit where my dog ever felt uncomfortable. In fact, he enjoys walking by knowing that he’ll always receive pets and maybe a treat. Fees are are decently priced compared to other vets and hospitals in the city. What makes there office my go-to is the staff being all local so they get to know your pet (and yourself) on a first name basis. Dr. Cohen is beyond exceptional in his field and Elvin is absolutely amazing with recommendation on care. Never has he steered me wrong. The front desk staff are absolutely amazing and friendly. Stephanie treats my dog as if it were her own. She has a knack for making you feel at ease after each visit and will ALWAYS explain pricing and follow-up if you don’t understand. Yolanda is so caring with her calls after visits ensuring my dog is doing well. Very motherly and sincere. Urban Vets really is a true neighborhood establishment that care more about you and your pet more than a dollar sign. In this economy and with other places attempting to take every penny you own, it’ll be tough to find a better provider for my dog.

I brought my cat here for the first time for both of us (1st time cat owner) , the vet was very kind to him and very fast (he was able to do an anual checkup, and all his shots in under 10 minutes) my cat came back very calm and almost unphased by the whole experience, which is great. He also answered all my cat questions and let me know what would be needed in the future. ????????

The care and love offered in this small veterinary hospital, in the heart of Alphabet City, is evident the moment one steps in. Dr. Cohen, Elvin, Stephanie and the rest of this amazing staff make you and your pet feel as part of an extended family. Your pet is "their" pet and their compassion, empathy and attention to every little detail are hard to match. I've been placing my cats' care in Urban Vets Hospital for almost 10 years now and I wouldn't change their service and big hearts for anything else.

My yorkie Maximus has been getting his vet services here for years, They also do this dental cleanings. The staff is always friendly and treat your pets like their own.

The best experience I've ever had with a vet! The staff at Urban Vets is responsive, really thoughtful, and helped my senior dog who is normally terrified feel very at ease. definitely take your pet here!
