Dirty, small, overcrowded. Smells even through a mask. Rude staff. Never follow through with calls. Once again perfect reason why people shop and don't adopt

Hoping to have a new daughter and sister for our Bentley. She is so sweet and pretty. She needs us and we really need her. Hoping to have our little senior girl for my birthday on Thanksgiving and to share our holiday traditions with a new sweet pea.

we were told that the shelter would set up a humane trap for our lost cat, shrub. when we call to discuss the details, they informed us that they won't set up a trap unless someone can monitor the trap, someone has to be available to check it every 30 minutes. not possible.

My indoor cat was missing for 7 days. The people at Montclair Animal Shelter were wonderful--supportive and helpful. Amazingly, my cat returned safe and healthy. WE found him under a hydrangea bush on my next door neighbors property. Thank you.

It seems this shelter only provides animals to people in a “certain” demographic. I was told by the director of this shelter I was not picked for a puppy because I was a RENTER. Are you kidding me, do you know how many people rent now a days. It seems if I don’t own my own house, have a fenced in yard, wife and kids I won’t even get an interview. The policies at this shelter need to be changed

We adopted a two year female Boxer on August 1st. Her name is Athena and we just adore her. She has been amazing for the first month we have had her. We live in Pennsylvania and happened to see Athena on Petfinder and so happy we did. Athena had a rough start to her life and we are beyond thrilled to have found her!! She is our fourth Boxer and the third that we have rescued. We met with Liz upon arrival to the shelter and fell in love wtih Athena from the first moment we saw her. Liz and a few other angels help Athena along her resuce journey. Liz was awesome and very helpful, we are glad to have met her. The shelter courtyard we were met with Athena is super clean and well taken care of and Athena was also in great shape, she is the sweetest dog ever, we feel so lucky and would certainly recommend this shelter and also adopt from there again. She has been on lots of field trips and is so well behanved! We spend TONS of time playing with her, she goes for two walks a day (about three miles)and is doing great. Can not say enought good things or thank you enough!

Working with Montclair has been one of the easiest experiences for our rescue. The shelter is run by caring people who truly love the animals who come through their doors. One of the cleanest shelters we have ever been in. There is no care they do not provide for the animals and any adopter is lucky to be able to adopt from them.

Or just that little something to make a family whole. Maybe your single and just want to come home to love in the house ????????????????????

Tried to adopt a dog with my gf. Informed the person who showed us the dog that we have a 5 year old in the house, the guy said that is no problem that they will just want to see them interact before letting us take the dog home. Put in an application, almost 3 day passed and no call so my gf called and was told that we couldn’t get the dog because of the age of my daughter and that the person at the front “forgot” to call us and tell us. Very unprofessional to be told one thing in person and another thing over the phone.

My husband and I adopted a four months old kitten from this shelter just a month ago and it was the best thing we ever did. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They care so much about their animals. The adoption process was very easy. We fell in love with our little boy as soon as we saw him. After we filed the application for him, we waited a couple days for our references to be confirmed and the application to be processed. Then we found out the little guy had a respiratory infection. The shelter kept him in quarantine and treated him for two weeks before releasing him to us. Our boy is very healthy now and our vet had said that it was a great shelter because they had done so much testing, deworming, and treatments for him that he hardly had anything more to be done. I strongly recommend this shelter and am very thankful for everything they've done.

There are great and not-great aspects of this place. My partner and I came to adopt a cat from the shelter. Almost everyone was very nice, especially one Irish (I think?) lady that was so sweet and knew all the cats' names and personalities and interacted with us well. One lady (seems like the one many reviews mention) was pretty condescending to us. We are a young couple (23 and 22) and I know I (23) have a young face so people often mistake me for a teenager. I get it. But this one person asked us the same question a million ways like, "you know you have to be at least 21 to adopt, right?" "Do you live with your parents?" "Do you live alone or with family?" "And how old are you?" over and over. It got annoying. Just card us or don't. Now we both are Black so idk if race was a factor like other people perceive; I just know I was getting frustrated by it. Maybe this woman is just really protective of the animals...we noticed a lot of the cats were ones previously adopted but sent back to the shelter. Either way, we did end up getting our sweet kitty and she was worth any frustration. Once we were actually walking out with her, the lady became much friendlier and offered to come by and teach us how to cut her nails. I think she is just one of those very serious animal people but chilling out a bit will probably make more people want to adopt from there.
