We adopted a 3yr old Yorkie who was very lovable towards us however not with other people Walking him was a nightmare and he was constantly looking for people or dogs to intimidate by barking and lunging. Our Vet told us about Gentle Dog Training We contacted Ken and Lisa and we were so glad we did After our first session the behavior was no longer an issue as we were able to correct it before it started. Ken and Lisa were amazing, so patient, knowledgeable and professional. We would recommend them without hesitation

Our hyper anxious Aussie was too tough for us to train when other dogs showed up on walks. Ken and Lisa gave us the tools to correct his actions and we have a great time walking again. Highly recommend Gentle Dog Training.

The husband and I fostered and adopted our dog Johnny -- a Black Lab/Great Dane mix -- from the KC Pet Project back in December. Now, we've never had such a big dog, and it was clear from the start that Johnny had a great temperament. But, he's big, eager, and was on track to accidentally hurt us or someone else, and we definitely had some moments of "Are we sure about this?". After another frustrating morning, our dog walker told us that we really, really needed to invest in some dog training, so I pulled out the pamphlet our vet had given us and made the call. Ken was very reassuring on the phone and described the program as being all about leadership. We opted for private training, which, not gonna lie, is pricey -- $1,000. But, that comes with all the private lessons you need (we only needed four), a year's worth of follow-up (we can call any time with questions), and an initial package of materials including the training book, Gentle Leader head collar, leash, beanbags, etc. To be honest, it's not so much about training the dog as it is about training the people! Once we started consistently using the tools Ken taught us, Johnny became a happy, well-behaved dog who everyone loves. He is still excited to see people, but he doesn't jump (and on the rare occasion that he does, we have a method to quickly correct him). He knows where he belongs in the "pack" (aka us) and doesn't try to take charge. He walks nicely on a leash. We're able to take him to daycare, where he socializes well with other dogs, and doesn't go crazy when he sees other dogs on his walks. And we easily trained him out of "nuisance barking" at things like the mail delivery. Most importantly, Ken taught us a "magic word" that helps us bring Johnny back if he gets out, which, let me tell you, has come in handy. If you amortize the cost of the training over a ten-year life, that's $100 a year for a dog who is a pleasure to be around and everyone is happy to see. That seems cheap! Given where we started -- incredibly frustrated and stressed out -- and where we are now -- everybody's happy -- I can't recommend GentleDogTraining.com highly enough. Spend the money, put in the time, and get the results!

I would highly recommend Ken and Lisa! We did private lessons for our two young dogs. In 5 sessions, they completely transformed them! One of my dogs barked at everything and pulled like crazy on walks. She thought she was in charge. The other was too terrified to even leave the driveway, let alone go on walks. Both went crazy when guests came to the door. It was frustrating and embarrassing. Although they did demonstrate with our dogs, Ken and Lisa really trained us (my husband and I). Each week they walked us through 2-3 commands to work on. Then we’d put them into practice. It was easy and straightforward without being overwhelming. I think we learned as much (if not more) than our dogs! Although they aren’t perfectly behaved, I feel like we have the tools and knowledge to manage them. Which I couldn’t say before.

Don’t look at any other dog training company. They promise snd deliver. I could not house train my Cocker Spaniel and was about to give up. We were looking for a training company I saw their ad. I was moving onto a new home and Colby could not live there unless he was housebroken. We dropped him off while we moved in. Three weeks later we picked up housebroken dog who knew all his commands. That was 2 years ago and we have had no mistakes. Worth every penny! They are the best!

If you need help training your pup look no further than Gentle Dog Training. Ken, Lisa and their entire staff are amazing. We dropped off our new rescue Bonnie for their board and train program, and could not be happier with the results. Upon completion of the program Lisa made a follow up visit to our home to answer any questions and offer support to help us continue the training process with Bonnie. It was worth every penny, and I know that they will continue to support us moving forward if we hit any snags or have any issues.

They have a system that is thorough and easy to see results right away. It’s more detailed than other trainers, which helps me expand what I teach my dog. I appreciate access to online videos in between on-sight training. The facility has plenty of outdoor and indoor space to work in either groups of one on one. Gentle Dog Training was recommended by my veterinarian and MOGS (Missouri German Shepherd Rescue).

I would recommend Gentle Dog Training to anyone needing/wanting their dog to be trained so they can just enjoy the dog more. I sure like my dog a whole lot more since he's gone through training. He is a collie. I live on a farm without yard parameters, so I need the vibration collar to keep him in my invisible bounds. He responds to my control every time I use the vibration. I have never had to dial up the response. He walks to the mailbox with me every day at my side--I use the leash for this due to a busy road we have to cross. He goes to his kennel on command, waits for his food and to go outdoors. I do try to keep up the practicing with him on a daily basis to get it ingrained in him. I can let him go outside of the house as long as his collar is on. I think he would be OK without it, but I haven't gotten the nerve to try it yet:-).He hangs around the garden & yard while I work & follows me wherever I go. I KNOW I couldn't have done this on my own. My dog is 7 months old.

I sent Ruby to "camp" with Ken and Lisa and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I call Ruby my little Covid decision. She's a mini Goldendoodle and as sweet as can be. However, she was definitely the Alpha in our relationship and I knew that had to change. The name of their operation, Gentle Dog Training, is just that. Ruby returned home knowing what behavior was expected of her and she wanted to please me and be rewarded. Ruby presented a challenge in that she is highly allergic to many things and couldn't receive treats. They showed me that positive reinforcement was the way to go. Thank you, Ken and Lisa! You and your entire staff must be commended for your skill in working with our beloved dogs! Lynn Gaebler :-)

From the minute we walked in the door we knew we made the right decision with Gentle Dog Training and working with Ken and Lisa. They are the most amazing dog trainers and we are forever grateful for taking our pup there!! Our pup use to be the wild child at the dog park, on walks, etc. and now we receive compliments about him. 10/10 would recommend any body to them and choose them all over again :)

Highly recommend Gentle Dog Training. After only one hour of training, I went home with an entirely different dog. This is my forth Dog Trainer and finally, I've found a true professional and techniques that acrually work for my Australian Cattle Dog.

LOOK NO FURTHER. THIS IS THE PREMIER PLACE IN KANSAS CITY FOR DOG TRAINING. PERIOD. Took my puppy Ruby the Airedale in for the Board and Train program. Trainers Lisa Baechtold, Shari, Kristin, and M. Kirk were phenomenal and Ruby's training was completed with no exceptions. Keep in mind, Ruby was only 16 weeks old when enrolled, and a terrier. The deck was stacked against the trainers, and they all did exceptionally well with Ruby. The facility is perfect. Dog kennels are clean, and the property is well maintained. There's plenty of room for dogs to take a break when not in training, and for potty breaks. With 24/7 monitoring/care, on call vet, strategically planned play groups (based on your dogs behavior and personality), T.R.E.A.T.S. training system, loving leadership, 30-day money back guarantee, and 1 year of follow up training, how could you go wrong? By far, the best money I've spent in a while, and it was very apparent that Ruby the Airedale absolutely loved being there. Well done Gentle Dog Training. My rating... A+

After our Gentle Dog Training class I feel much more confident handling my large breed puppy. They really take time to answer your questions, help you understand your dog and be successful. I've taken classes at other places and sincerely wish I would have started with Lisa and Ken first. It would have saved a lot of time and money.

We are thrilled with the entire experience of the board&train program at Lisa & Ken's facility. We really liked what training they provided for us (the humans) on pickup day! Lots of training video's on their website, we can re-watch to refresh! We just had our home visit, and found new things we can do to make ourselves and pup grow even more! Thank you GDT!

We left our 1 yr old Goldendoodle for 2 week board and train program and couldn't be happier with the progress he made. Remarkable improvement in leash walking, coming when called, manners in and out of the house, Included were many training aids sent home with us to continue enforcing newly learned behaviors. Lisa even followed up with a home visit. We will continue to use for boarding and would highly recommend their services!

Ken and Lisa were extremely easy to work with and accommodating. During the final interactive exit lesson, Kristin was very patient with us and made sure to address any questions we had. Top notch overall. No hidden fees and all of the equipment and training tools were included in the price. A+

Highly recommend Gentle Dog Training. The owners (Lisa and Ken) were great to work with and the staff was awesome. We dropped off an out of control 70lb puppy and got back a well behaved, happy, well trained dog.

If you are having dog training issues big or small I strongly encourage you to see Ken at Gentle Dog Training. We had some big training issues and serious behaviors and after two failed attemps with other trainers tried Ken. I will admit I was dubious and utterly surprised when we first met Ken and my normally barking and unfriendly dog did not make a sound and seemed to accept Ken right away. I knew at that moment we had hope! After the first visit and doing the homework we were getting AMAZING results. We can walk Winson now without concerns and he is the well-behaved dog our neighbors appreciate. Most importantly, after a few visits with Ken and working hard on all his recommendations we have a happy and adjusted member of the family. Thank you to Gentle Dog Training!

Ken is an outstanding trainer and is actually there to help your dog succeed. He will help you in every way possible and give you the best advice to keep you and your dog safe. I own a reactive Pitbull mix who was rescued from the shelter and in just in the matter of DAYS, he has stopped barking at other dogs or showing any signs of aggression. He is still a work in progress but with unlimited visits and if there is any problems that still need to visited I can count on Ken to help us. They work miracles and I do not say that often.

Lisa & Ken have done a wonderful job training our puppy! They have been consistent with lessons & very responsive to any questions via text or phone. They delivered all of the training items/gadgets that we needed, including leashes at no additional cost. I love that they have taken the extra time to teach our 11-year old son how to be a good leader with our pup. I highly recommend them!

Truly life changing for my dog and I. I had to keep about 20 ft between us and other dogs. After 2 weeks she is comfortable around dogs. She needs mild instruction now but she responds to my commands and no longer tries to rip my arm off. Very thankful for Ken and Lisa!

Ken and Lisa have trained three of our dogs and we could not be more happy with their work. One of those cases was a difficult case and they did a great job. I am very impressed with their professionalism and experience. You can call them for advice and they always call you back. They even have been to our house to help with training in the dog's environment. They're fantastic!
