They were wonderful and did everything to help me chose a new pet cat. Tuscaloosa Animal Shelter help a free adopt a pet. I was thrilled to have a choice of a spade or neutered and my new pet was also microchips. I am now awaiting the few days as they are making sure the health of my cat before I pick him/ her up.

I would also give this shelter 0 stars. My friend went to adopt this beautiful puppy, Mona, less than a week ago. She was only 3 months old. When he went to get her, he was told Mona only had a moderate case of kennel cough, so he went and got the medicine they recommended for her. After a few days, Mona became extremely ill. Throwing up, bloody diarrhea, no appetite at all. It gradually got worse, so he consulted with a vet he knew, was informed that it could be parvo virus, and immediately rushed her to the vet. As my friend was waiting for her test results, she died in his arms. She had a case of parvo left untreated that they had blown off as just kennel cough. This is the exact same story as Anna Augustini's story and it is disgusting and extremely sad. When he called the shelter to tell them this terrible news they did not seem to care. They give out sick puppies and make it seem like it's the foster parents' fault when they die, but all the blame goes back to them and the terrible conditions they leave their animals in. I know a person who used to work there and he would constantly complain about how no one gave the pets medicine or properly checked on them. He left soon after. Apparently parvo in the animals is common there. Terrible shelter. I do not recommend, but if you do adopt there(because the animals deserve loving owners) make sure your pet is healthy and free of parvo.

If I could give zeros stars I would. I went to go foster to adopt a 4 month old puppy named Asher. When meeting him at the shelter, he seemed extremely calm, I asked a member of staff if this was ok, if he was ok, and she said he was completely fine, just tired. I took him home and he was immediately sick. Throwing up, diarrhea, and would not eat anything. He got progressively worse night one, threw up 7 times. The day I got him was Saturday, by the time Sunday came around he was worse, but of course the metro is closed Sunday and their emergency number is no where to be found. I then had to take him to the ER where he had to be euthanized due to low blood sugar, decreased heart rate, and a bad case of parvo that went untreated. When calling the shelter today, they were no help, them giving me an already sick 4 month old puppy is somehow my responsibility. They also had no care in the world that my puppy had died, seems like this is normal. I’ve had friends with an experience similar to this, but I wanted to give this poor baby boy a good life. Now I have no puppy, and a large vet bill, as well as the $100 for adopting it. Clearly these dogs aren’t being taken care of in the proper way, they gave me a dog with Parvo telling me he was tired. I’m very upset and disappointed in this shelter and the experience I had. Although I want puppies to be adopted, this is not the place to do it.

We went to look at a fur baby we saw on the website. She was just what we thought would make a good sister for our Olivia we adopted from here. Olivia and us lost a 16 year old fur baby on the 13th of this month. We wasn't trying to replace our sweet little Gracie, but Olivia seemed so lost and lonesome. BUT what did we know we did 3 meet and greet with 3 different fur babies, Olivia wouldn't let any of the 3 even come in the yard with us. She wants her mommy and Daddy to herself. There are so many sweet babies needing forever homes. I encourage everyone to check out Metro, in Tuscaloosa, your heart will melt and it is not expensive to adopt.

I went there strictly to pick up donations of pet food for the Hale County Animal Shelter in Greensboro. I was referred to them by Kathy Box of the West Alabama Humane Society. I had just picked up a few small bags at her location and she said that they had sent a lot of food to this location. Instead of receiving the amount that I would be leaving with, I was told that they use it for their pet pantry, whatever that is. So they gave me three bags of food and as I sat there making phone calls, a woman pulled up and donated some wet cat food to them. They certainly didn't look like they were hurting for donations. I don't know why they call themselves a shelter. The building that I pulled up to was a veterinary clinic. It was well-staffed and had plenty of merchandise on hand in the front office.

Nice place, though tuscaloosa has an issue that needs funding, 2 times I've brought stray animals by and they have no room. The employees were very helpful.

They do a good job taking care of the animals. Their adoption policies are straight forward. We have got two dogs from them, both were in good health and had been well treated by the staff.
