First off, I highly recommend Dr. Averette for his work ethic and knowledge. If that’s what you came to reviews for then I wanted you to read that first. Now onto why. When it comes to my furr babies, I only accept the best. I moved from Chicago to Tuscaloosa 4 years ago. While in Chicago it was incredibly difficult to find a small practice, unless you were willing to pay astronomical fees for pet aura readings and fun things like that. Upon moving to Tuscaloosa one of my first priorities was to find that special small veterinary clinic. And I found this clinic after a couple years, after moving to Northport and being told about him. Why may you ask the reason for small clinic VS large clinic. Well one of my worst experiences here in Tuscaloosa was at A large clinic in Tuscaloosa. I was waiting in the lobby with my babies and suddenly a gentleman came in and yelled my girls names out.. He proceeded to grab them both my the leash and lead them away. If you wondering what’s wrong, it’s everything. The person did not introduce himself, did not say where going or what doing. I felt a bit panicky, as if I just had let my children run off with a stranger. I stood up wondering if me and partner should follow, the door closed. I had to ask the front desk where on earth my pets were just taken. I told they were being weighed and placed in a room. The techs were curt and quickly to ignore. Once the doctor arrived I questioned why we weren’t seeing the vet we came to see… you know the one on the door? (No answer). This particular gentleman veterinarian was so dismissing and uncomfortable. He made no eye contact, no effort to assure the pups of a safe environment and basically looked as if he was folding boxes in a warehouse (facial expression wise). My OVERALL point is. Always ALWAYS know your personal vet. Do not let some large money making operation rob your pups of their dignity and rob you of your money. Dr. Avertte, is an impeccable example of what vets should aspire to be. Honest, capable and available.

Dr Averette is honest and doesn't try to make you buy anything unnecessary. I admire an honorable man in today's world.

You can't beat Dr. Averette. One of the most caring animal doctors around. You never feel rushed when seeing him. Always answers your questions.

I have used Dr Averette in the past primarily for check-ups and immunizations. I had been there just 2 weeks previous for my dog’s physical, which with the bloodwork I had requested was approximately $350. I have found Dr. Averette to be thorough, knowledgeable, and kind. This made it especially disappointing to hear when I called the other morning, that despite the fact that my dog had been vomiting for 2 days, there were no appointments for 2 weeks. In my many previous vets’ practices, time was routinely allotted for sick dog visits. Had I realized that I would be unable to access services on the occasion that my dog was sick or injured, I would not have used this practice for well dog appointments. I would also add that upon asking if there were any suggestions that may be helpful for my dog, I was told a flat, no.

Dr. Averette is absolutely the best Veterinarian in town! He saved us probably $1500 by removing a cancerous tumor from our beloved Yorkie and she is doing great! I wouldn't trust anyone else but him with our 3 pets! And the staff is so friendly ????

The staff here is top notch. My dogs are taken care of in a very timely fashion. And they are treated as if they are one of their own animals.

Quick rabies shot. Excellent explanation and advice about a sore Tweeter has on his leg. They're so gentle and sweet here! And so knowledgeable. Tweeter doesn't like strangers so I was a little worried he'd snap or bite...but, all went so well. A calm and experienced vet tech makes such a difference too! Thank you Dr. Averette and all your staff!

The Vet and his employees are all very nice and know what they are doing. They schedule well enough too so you're never waiting.

I have been taking my pets to Dr. Allen Averette for more than 20 years. He is caring and spends a lot of time with patients. He is experienced, professional, intelligent, and down to earth. Dr. Averette does not push medications or procedures, but tries to give balanced options. When my dog had a bad eye problem, Dr. Averette treated it but immediately referred me to vet eye specialist in Birmingham. No medical practice is perfect, and there are an infinite number of variables to make each patient and situation different. Office manager Kam is excellent, very knowledgeable, nice, and organized. I am always surprised that she even remembers my dog's name! Great location, easy access from downtown Tuscaloosa or Northport. Stand alone clinic so no busy traffic or huge parking lot. Nice waiting room split into 2 smaller separate areas, as well as couple of outdoor seats. Recommend making appointment if possible!
