My mom had adopted our family dog named Shane about a year and a half almost two years ago, and all I can really say is it was one of the best decisions ever. He is a very loving dog, and we love having him. I am so blessed to have a dog that has so much personality and trusts me with that personality of his. He’s a really good dog.

We adopted our dog from MARS a little over six months ago. MARS was great to work with throughout the adoption process, and we couldn't love Bo (originally named Bobby Singer) more!

Unfortunately my experience with this rescue leads me to believe that MARS does not have the best interest of the dogs, fosters or adopters in mind. Please be especially careful if you are adopting a dog that isn’t a puppy from this organization. For example my dog was not spayed upon adoption and was told I could bring my dog to a vet 50 miles from my home, to a vet whom they had no experience with or wait until Jan 17 to have the services performed in Brooklyn Park ( I adopted on 11/26). I felt it extremely unfair to a dog in transition to travel 50 miles one way to have surgery and to have travel 50 miles back while recovering. Additionally when we met with the fosters there was no oversight by the MARS staff. The man placed us in a room and provided no communication or direction regarding the adoption process to us or the fosters. As adopters & fosters we were left to figure it out on our own. For an organization needing fosters to survive and adopters to make adoption recommendations I thought this disrespectful to the fosters and a poor business practice. For your own safety, please check with the fosters regarding the dog’s behaviors as MARS either does not update the dogs profiles or they are not with the fosters long enough for them to fully assess the dog. My dog was said to be good with people and not aggressive. I was bitten three times on three different occasions breaking my skin through several layers of clothing. The biting was unprovoked and after speaking with my vet and a dog trainer both recommended that I return the dog to MARS. Unfortunately I had to return the dog and noted that the profile was never updated. I was very specific when we returned the dog to note behaviors and did provide them with my vets clinic notes. I will say that MARS worked well with me on rehoming However it did take numerous phone calls before I got resolution. Needless to say I was heartbroken and they made no attempt to help find a match

MARS is a great organization that has saved thousands of animals that otherwise would have lost their life through no fault of their own. They do very careful screening of potential foster families and adopters. I started fostering for MARS over 8 years ago, and every time I have taken a dog in, it has been a very fun and rewarding experience. We recently took our current foster dog to see the MARS vet, Dr. Ashley Thompson, and the experience was really great. She has a very calm demeanor, and definitely took her time with us and the dog, and answered all of our many questions! The technicians were also very kind and helpful from beginning to the end of our visit. The one year old puppy we brought in was so relaxed while at his visit, he laid down and started to fall asleep! Very clean and modern exam room as wellI. If you have ever considered fostering or adopting a dog, Midwest Animal Rescue and Services is a great place to go! ????

We just fostered to adopt a puppy here and we already love her. She is everything they discribed In her discription. She is an amazing companion for our family . Really good with the kids and just an awesome dog. Great place to go if your looking for a great dog. They responded fast, answered questions I had, staff was very friendly . It was busy but the workers were great to get everyone helped in a timely matter. I'm for sure telling people to go here if there looking to adopt a great dog.

We have had the privilege of adopting not one but TWO perfect puppies from MARS. Great experience both times. We LOVE them!

We had a very poor experience with adopting from here compared to other organizations. Were not fully informed on what it meant by foster to adopt, which means you get the dog right off the street/transport truck. Full of fleas and ticks and scared to death. In our cases the dog had no contact with people. After 6 months she is really coming around and is very a sweet smart little girl and we love her dearly. They have backed out of providing the spay now and after having our local vet volunteer, they will not return calls or respond to emails from either of us. In the meantime, I paid to have her spayed and am going to be forced to pay our local vet to have it done. I would Recommend other organizations before adopting from this organization.

We adopted this beautiful girl yesterday from MARS and it was a great experience. We had looked at her page at their website and talked to Liz, who arranged a time to meet her. The facility itself is kind of dark and dingy, but the people were fantastic. The foster moms were waiting for us already when we showed up, and clearly loved the dog and fostering her. Our old dog was delighted to meet another pup, since he's been sad since we lost her big sister. The foster dog warn't happy, though, because she wanted all the attention and treats. She's doing much better at home, though she has some weird quirks, but don't all dogs? We'll be getting her some training right away to help her adjust and learn some manners.

I am giving these guys 3 stars because I know they are trying to solve a huge problem by finding loving homes for their animals. We fostered and then adopted a sweet puppy in July of 2020. The day we picked her up, we made an appointment for her spay because they were scheduling 6 months out. It was set for January. The day before her appointment, we received a call that they did not have a vet and would have to reschedule. We rescheduled for April. Same thing happened with our second appointment. No vet. By this time, our pup is over a year old and not spayed. We asked about scheduling the spay with our own vet because of the delay. They said they could check in to other vets near us, but we didn't hear back. Eventually we scheduled with our own vet and paid out of pocket for her to be spayed. I know they mean well, but this was really frustrating and costly for us and we would look elsewhere if we ever decide to adopt again.

Dishonest & disturbing! They go to other states collecting free dogs & then sell them up here for over 200.00!

Took my money and ran! Their foster to adopt contracts promise so much (veterinary exam, vaccinations, heartworm/flea/tick prevention, neuter) but in reality, the second they get your money - they're done. I fostered to adopt a sweet but super energetic puppy. After the first couple days with him, I noticed the fit wasn't quite right for a single full-time working person. I contacted MARS repeatedly via email and phone without response, after explicitly stating my situation and my dissatisfaction. This was over a month ago... TLDR: Avoid avoid avoid. They just want your money, they don't care if the puppy find their perfect furever home or if you find your perfect fit.

I had a great experience with Midwest Animal Rescue. I filled out application for one of the dogs available and they immediately sent me an email response saying they got the application and after review they will reach out to me. Camille promptly texted me to set up a meet and greet with Hall and his foster mom. The quick response made me feel like they are a well oiled rescue and wanted to get their pets a home. After a family decision, it was not the right time to adopt. They were very understanding and let me know to reach out to them when we are ready. I had nothing but a great experience, take some of the bad reviews with a grain of salt!

We fostered for 2 years- 2011-2013. We had all of the same negative experiences in the reviews. Waiting for appts, no responses, etc. They are not a non-profit...check out their books... I recommend that you look elsewhere.

We decided to do a foster to adopt through MARS. When I picked him up he was covered in diarrhea, urine and feces. They had given him his flea and tick treatment which I had to redo after 2 days of baths to clean him up. The day after we took him home I called, and texted and emailed with no response for about 2 weeks. The dog needed to see a vet. Since I couldn't get a hold of the rescue I took him to my vet. Who told me his neuter incision was infected. He was put on meds for that along with a probiotic due to diarrhea. I had to bring a stroll sample in a few days later to test for worm. Which he has a significant amount of parasites. 3 different types including whipworm. I have been treating him for that. Since I was never able to get ahold of anyone and their vet coukf not get me in I had to pay for all this before deciding to even adopt him. After I received an email apologizing for not getting back to me sooner I told them what happened via email and attached the vet Bill's. Over 2 weeks later I got a phone call. No. They will not cover the vet bills since I didnt use their vet who is in only 2 days a week right now. I also got a call from a volunteer who informed me that any drive 12 hours and under they do not stop to let the dogs go outside. I'm sure the drivers had to go to the bathroom. Midwest animal rescue and services doesnt know what it means to rescue dogs. These dogs were not being taken care of. They were stacked in cages and crates in a huge van. Left to sit in their own urine, feces, vomit and diarrhea for who knows how long. My beautiful dog went through even more trauma being in their custody. This rescue needs to be looked into for how they treat their animals and the people who want to adopt. So disappointed with this rescue. In it only for the money. I should not have waiting as long as I did from them. I was calling everyday. Calling, texting and emailing as well as sending messages on facebook. They truly need to make this right and pay for this poor dogs vet bills.

We've adopted 4 animals (3 cats, 1 dog) through MARS. All have been great and the adoption experience has been amazing.

We just adopted Millie a few weeks ago and overall it was a good experience! She came with some health problems already, but the foster set up a vet appointment for us just before we adopted to look at some of the issues (amazing). The first couple of weeks were a bit of a struggle, with some digestive issues, some broken paw pads, and she overall just seemed very lethargic. When we brought her to the vet clinic, they checked on everything she was originally booked for in addition to the new health concerns we brought up. They found she had an ear infection (which was the last thing we expected). They were extremely kind to us discussing all of our concerns, which was relieving considering we are new dog owners and are worried about every little thing. She has been feeling better after her antibiotics and is like a new, happy dog! After reading the negative reviews about the vet clinic recently, we did not have that experience AT ALL. Everyone who we interacted with- the vet techs and vet (Dr. Smith) were so helpful and reassuring. So I would give it a shot before you read the reviews! Of course it is hard to get an appointment quickly, but if it’s not urgent it’s worth it. My only “negative” feedback is communication at the beginning of adoption was a little confusing and disorganized, but I do understand the challenge of being mostly volunteer-run (and the extreme amount of adoptions right now!). But in the end, they matched us with the perfect dog and we are so thankful! Overall, would recommend this rescue.

I submitted an app to surrender a cat I found in my garage and they never responded. I had to reach out to them nearly a week later. They denied my application, stating they didn’t have the fostering resources to take in another animal. If they would have actually read my application in full, they would have seen that I said I would foster him, I just needed help finding him a home. They never responded.

We needed to return/re-home our MARS dog because we couldn’t help him past his anxiety. Our first contact was with Bennet, who would be doing the assessment. He was so understanding of our situation and gave me a sense that our dog would be in good hands. The day we brought him back, Amy made time in her busy schedule to meet with us and our pup. In only a few minutes, Amy was able to get through our dog’s anxiety to see some real hopeful signs that he could be rehabilitated and become a happy dog. Amy had already arranged a foster and I was able to speak with him about his history with our dog’s breed and his success with bringing out the best dog. The compassion and understanding of Bennet and Amy helped our heartbreak at having to give up our sweet dog, but we left knowing that he would have the best dog life possible in the care of these wonderful people at MARS.

My second time wanting to adopt from them had bad experience. They don't return the phone calls and possibly discriminate against the age.

UPDATE: I did end up fostering a dog with MARS for a week before I adopted the dog. Because my dog still needs to be spayed, I tried to contact them for a week trying to schedule this appointment. No voicemail/emails were returned until a week later. When I finally talked to MARS Vet, they wanted me to call back a different time because they didn't have my dog's information in their system yet so they couldn't schedule her spay appointment. That is a JOKE! All they kept saying to me is that they have other clients and COVID slowed everything down and the spay won't happen until February 2021. Well, I'm sure one can still respond to calls and emails even with COVID, right?? They are EXTREMELY hard to work with and it looks like many people have challenges with their communication, too. They really need to step it up and make some changes to their communication. I'm happy I finally got a dog but would I want to adopt from them/recommend to others? My answer is NO! I have been trying to contact this organization for more than a week now and I still have received no response from them. I have tried emails and left a voicemail. It looks like they do update their website, removing puppy profiles and new ones but I'm just not sure why they're not responding to me. How do they expect people to adopt/foster if they're not willing to communicate? I'm really not impressed by this type of service or lack thereof.

We had a great experience with MARS. We adopted a little shitzhu mix and felt like their communication was great and the dog was exactly as they described. He is healthy, his temperament was what we expected, his potty training was accurately reported, and he came to us clean and groomed and happy. They have a nice facility set up for meeting the animals (after you've been approved and set up an appointment). All the animals are cared for in foster homes. They've answered our questions even after the adoption is all done. Sure, the adoption fee is expensive, but that's what we expect from a reputable rescue with its own veterinary care.
