Man's Best Friend Dog Grooming South Lyon, Michigan

This review is a long time coming. My wife and I were very close friends with Dave & Sandy. Back In 1990. Then they opened man's best friend. After about 4 times taking our dogs in for baths and nail trims. We had 3 dogs at that time a husky, chihuahua and a Boston terrier. The fifth visit seemed to go good till I noticed my Lucy (Boston Terrier)had what seemed like something in her eye I asked Sandy about it she said it might be soap. So we settled up and went home I then found out Lucy's eye didn't have something in it but was severely scratched and I stopped payment on the check and had to have her eye removed she died a few days later. Dave and Sandy could care less telling my wife not to come by anymore. Cowards and despicable only care about your money not your animals.

Our dog had knee surgery 5 weeks ago and had to wait until he was well enough until he could get groomed. Our normal groomer was out on sick leave so we decided to look for other options. I found Man’s best friend, so I gave them a call. Their website looks so warm and caring I thought I would give them a try. I was able to get an appointment the next day! Later in the day I decided to see what reviews I could find. Some said that this groomer was the best used while others gave terrible reviews. One even mentioned in their words was a hack job. I figured you will always have unhappy people and figured they may have over exaggerated the level of incompetence. Nope! They are spot on. At first look, our dog looked well groomed. When I got him home and got a better look at him, I realized this was one of the worst jobs I had ever seen. His fur was of different lengths ( poor scissor work) and he had two areas where she clipped him too close. So close in one spot that our dogs skin was cut. I’m not one to complain about someone’s work, but this involves the safety of our pets. I will never go back there and I suggest you don’t either. I have enclosed two pictures of the areas I’m talking about.

I've had horrible experiences with groomers. I've tried so many between south Lyon to Howell. My little poodle/bichon always comes out looking horrible or with cuts on shorter areas of his body. I finally tried Best Friends and they did an amazing job! They have a lifelong customer in me. He looks so adorable. And I LOVE the bandana they put on him! It's so cute ❤???? thank you guys!

We've been bringing our Berner here for years. They used to charge $80-$90 and would spend a good 3+ hours trimming & bathing him. We've never had a complaint of the quality of the cut- there's not much to it...pretty much trim his feet and some underbelly clips. But unfortunately, they began raising the price $10 & $20 almost every time we would bring him in. This morning we dropped him off at 7am, at 8:45, they said he was done & charged $165!!! I'm sorry- that is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. We will be finding a new groomer.

My dog was very well groomed but do not like the fact that they lock the dogs in crates and that he came home with fleas and spread them in my house! He was on flea and tick meds

I’m new to South Lyon. My neighbor recommended Man’s Best Friend for my Golden. The staff was very friendly. They explained to me that they don’t like to cage their furry friends all day and that is why they are groom right away and call for pick-up when they are ready to go home. My Rosie never looked so good. She was prancing around, showing off when I picked her up. She smelled wonderful, her coat was shiny, her nails were cut and ground down. The price also was cheaper than my old groomer. I highly recommend them for all your grooming needs.

I took my Mini Schnauzer and Labradoodle here. I was pleased that they got me in quickly, but now I understand why they aren’t booked. I asked for the traditional cut for the Schnauzer and a shave for the Labradoodle. When I picked them up I was shocked at the price (way to high) and when I got home I realized just how bad the cuts were. The schnauzers skirt is completely uneven, there are many long missed spots on both dogs, a big cut on the Schnauzers leg and a cut on the Labradoodle’s eyelid. Also my dogs normally come home from the groomer feeling good and ready to play. This time both seemed traumatized and slept for the rest of the day. They didn’t even want anyone to pet them. I obviously won’t be back. My advice is to avoid this place!

I've had my dog groomed for years by the same groomer but since moving to South Lyon it was more than inconvenient to drive 45 mins for grooming services. Not only was the person who greeted me not friendly but borderline rude. Told me 2-3 hours, I explained what I wanted and even asked questions pertaining to the nail service. Get called not even an hour and a half later to come get him. I had to pay first before even seeing my dog then got him. Get him in my vehicle and got a great look at the hackjob I just paid almost $50 for. The lines are ridiculous, and completely uneven. Long pieces of hair everywhere, and then he has a shaved patch on his leg! His nails are NOT grinded after being trimmed so they are sharp and cut my skin when he jumped on me. Do not recommend. Will take my monthly grooming needs elsewhere. For a place called mans best friend I'd assume they'd actually care about the quality of work and not the amount of turn around appointments they can do.

The owners Dave and Sandy are so caring and treat the pets so nicely. They do a great job grooming. My dog always looks so good. Best dog groomers in South Lyon!

This place is great!! There was no wait and my dog got her nails trimmed and her glands expressed all in under 10 minutes! Very quick and hard working staff not to mention friendly! The prices are the best in town! Even at my own vet they charge more for a nail trim than at Man’s Best Friend Grooming!! Great service, great people, great price!! Will be going to them from now on :) Tinkerbell says thank you! ????

Great service. Friendly and helpful. My dog just loves spending time there. Check them out. I've used groomers for many years and various dogs. Trust me, these folks will test you AND your dog very well.

do you even know how to wash a dog properly. i was told not to come here my experience was terrible. Sandy may i beg your pardon! I have no clue who megan is I'm Cheryls husband yes we were your customer and no you haven't had a phone complaint because what I have seen on Facebook and now on here deserved my review. If you want to take legal actions I will give my name address and prior bank account info to whom ever law enforcement will be asking. That attitude is why people are giving poor reviews

We moved to South Lyon and used Man's Best Friend for our two dogs and we were so happy with their haircuts. They are very reasonable . I would highly recommend them. Thank you.

I take my Leonberger in for grooming every few months. They do an AMAZING job!!!!! Beatrix always looks gorgeous after her bath, brush, and clean-up trim. She also looks forward to her visits. When I start driving in the direction of the building, she starts whining and wagging her tail. If we are on another errand and drive past she gets upset!!! This is something that is important to me. She clearly enjoys being there. These are people who care about the dogs they groom. They go the extra mile. I highly recommend them!!!

My dad takes our Lab Winnie here who is scared of her own shadow and she absolutely loves it here. She has really bad allergies so they use an oatmeal shampoo on her and make her smell amazing. Winnie also loves that she is not there all day long. I highly recommend this place. Keep up the great work guys.!

For the first time i took my dog there last week. I explained how i wanted my dogs haircut which was simple, an inch off everywhere and the tail trimmed. Seemed simple enough!! After i brought her home i noticed the hack job they did on her hair cut and the tail want even touched. Her haircut is horrible, patchy and uneven!! i am so upset every time i look at her! for 45$ for a 10 lbs dog i expect to have a descent service! I will never take my dog there ever again! very disappointed and upset!!!!

I love taking my pets to Man's Best Friend Grooming. They are really gentle and friendly with both of my dogs. You can tell all of the staff enjoy working with animals, which is important. They are also really helpful and knowledgeable when I ask questions regarding grooming practices of my pets! Thanks for the great care!!

I've been taking my Toy Poodle to this groomer for several years. They take great care of my pet, he is well groomed, they give me an approximate time that he will be done and call when he is ready for pick-up. Sandy & Dave have always been caring and friendly. This is not the first time I have recommended them and it won't be the last.
