I googled a clinic that was open at 2am last night and found this one. It was urgent, I needed to put my poor cat down. They were extremely compassionate and kind, I am grateful I ended up here.

Came in for my dog in distress. Paid 650 bucks for them to tell me that it "might be a soft tissue injury to the neck". That part, while annoying, doesn't warrant a one star rating. Blood tests cost money, I know this. However, assuming it …

READ THEIR REPLIES TO OTHER REVIEWS BEFORE TAKING YOUR ANIMAL HERE Instead of addressing concerns for their patients' health and concerns, the replies from this business to negative reviews are full of excuses, defensive language, and guilt tripping. They should be doing everything they can to make a situation they caused right. One star because my dog made it out alive and stable enough so I could get her to her normal vet the next morning. She is diabetic and was having issues with her blood sugar. After trying to charge me close to $700 for irrelevant tests, I was THEN offered a glucose test that checks her blood sugar. The original reason I was there was her blood sugar and received no communication until 2 hours of waiting (which has to be done in your car which is sketchy). This facility, with only 1 vet on staff that came in at 6pm, is only out for your money. And when you don't have almost $2,000 to spend on the spot for minimal care, they will make you feel bad about it. Thankfully my dog made it through the night and was able to get her in at her normal vet the next morning at Patterson on Harper. Dr. Patterson even asked how much they wanted because they're infamous for several overcharging. He only charged me $145 for a 10 hour stay plus all medical work done. Only came here because no one else had openings. Do not take your animal here. They're money hungry and clearly don't care about animal medicine. Their replies to other negative reviews berating people for not having the money or blaming the owner for their animal dying is reason enough to never trust this place with your furry friend. If you need an emergency vet, the Gratiot location is amazing. And to the person that replies to this, don't bother looking up my information on how I "refused service." I don't care what you have to say. Just fix your practice and do right for the next patients. I didn't have $2,000 in my bank account to even pay you, considering you have to be in full and there are no payment plans, so don't put that on me. $1,500 for an overnight stay here when it's $100 and the Gratiot location. 15x more.

Can't say enough about this place. Our family recently adopted a big pup (Clyde) from the Dog Rescue in Detroit. Unfortunately, Clyde had Kennel Cough at the time of adoption that rapidly changed to pneumonia. Our family was devastated as we watched his health decline. He hacked and vomited every 5 min Shocked, hurt and fearful we took Clyde to Veterinary Emergency Service and felt a sense of relief at the time of admission. The staff were professional, knowledgeable and reassuring. They informed of his needs and the procedures that they would need to do and Clyde stayed overnight. When I picked Clyde up the next day I was amazed at how much better he appeared. It's been a couple weeks now and Clyde has made a complete turnaround. He is happy, playful and full of energy. Each day he has gotten better since being at Vet Emerg Service. We are so grateful to them for giving him life. I highly recommend this place to any pet owner.

This practice can be either hit or miss based on which provider gets to see your pet. I wish I could have received more instructions on what to expect after certain injections. I was shocked to see how my cat's eyes were dilated so much after pain injection. Not everyone is aware of this simple reaction. I actually brought him back the next day in case there is nothing wrong with his cornea. Luckily, the doctor who saw us the next day was awesome in explaining that there is nothing wrong and tested his eyes again for an assurance. I am just thankful that they accept walk-ins and pretty good about providing services when regular vet's offices are closed. Thank you!

My cat started showing signs of sickness. I took her to this vet and they were unable to give me answers. The vet told me her bloodwork was normal and that he really didn’t have any answers for me. My cat wouldn’t eat, or stand up and I knew something was wrong. I took her back and they insisted that an overnight stay would help. So I paid a ridiculous amount of money for her to stay the night and come back to me in the same condition. That Monday I was able to call her regular vet and they knew what was wrong with her based off her bloodwork without even seeing her. She ended up having a deadly disease called FIP. I spent thousands here trying to figure out what was going on when her bloodwork already showed the issue. Months later, I decided to give them a second chance and went in fully prepared to put my cat down because she had gotten so bad. (My regular vet wasn’t open and I couldn’t watch her suffer anymore) They told me something else was going on and gave me hope that she would be okay. I spent another $400 that night and she passed away the next day. I would never recommend this place to anyone. I felt I was taken advantage of because I was emotional and they could get money out of me because I was desperate to save my cat. I would give negative stars if possible. Truly a nightmare experience.

We brought our kitten in late last night because he was vomiting food and not keeping water down. He was quickly taken back for an exam (only $100 fee) and seen by the doctor right after. After X-rays and a few medications were recommended—we were back home just an hour later with a healthier, happier kitten. Thank you so much to everyone who helped our kitty last night (and for doing it so quickly). We appreciate you and your time!

My dog was uncomfortable and not acting like herself so I decided to take her in to be seen. The wait wasn't long, but the doctor literally dragged her out on leash and insisted that "They usually cooperate when they're out of the room." My dog was diagnosed with pyometra and they quoted us $3,300 for the surgery. After deciding that I would call around to check on pricing, they insisted that I take antibiotics for her that were over $80 (that I could have filled for free at Meijer, which I learned at the other vet I visited). I ended up taking her to Wilson Veterinary hospital in Romeo and was quoted $1,100 to $1,700 and paid close to the minimum amount. Save yourself and your pet stress and don't even consider going here. Not only were they uncaring, they made it clear that they're all about money.

Our dog Daisy May was having trouble breathing and swallowing. She was drooling and acting very lethargic, which as you can imagine caused my husband and I to be nervous wrecks. We called too many animal hospitals to even count…just to be told they were closed or at capacity. This vet office answered our frantic call and got our baby seen right away. Tiffany was so attentive to us and answered all our questions. She took such a scary experience for us and helped ease our anxiety. Thank you to all of the staff for helping our little girl❤️

Was the only animal hospital that would take my dog out of the 4 I called. Was in and out withing 1.5 hours which is light speed for a 24 hour vet. This place will be my first choice if I ever need emergency services again. Well worth the half hr drive from my house.

Our dog Sadie was very sick and during these crazy pandemic days we could Not find a vet that could see her. Everyone we called was at full capacity. When I called them they said a doctor would be in by 6 and they would be able to see her We were so relieved that she would be getting help that night.Unfortunitly the out come was not what we were expecting. The place was expensive but the care was great.Everone was so nice and caring through this difficult time.

I wanted to take a moment to say how grateful I am for the care we received at Veterinary Emergency Service East last night. I read the reviews before going and was almost swayed to go somewhere else but I’m so glad I didn’t. The process was straightforward, extremely organized, and the staff was considerate and caring. Some reviews reference long waits, but considering this is an emergency facility where you cannot plan ahead or make appointments, I was happy to wait knowing that my dog was going to get seen by a doctor within a reasonable time frame, and based on the level of urgency. There have been times I’ve spent up to two hours at our vet, with an appointment, so less than four hours was worth every minute for emergency care. From what I saw, they treated many, many animals last night. What blessing to have this care available to us, late night, on a Saturday. I feel like my dog Sophie is on the road to recovery. I can’t imagine the state she’d be in if we had to wait to see her regular vet on Monday.

Thank you for being one of the only emergency vets open during these hectic times. I’ve taken my dog here for four years and the staff has always shown compassion and urgency with him. The treatment was expensive, but well worth it to have my baby back at home tonight. Very thankful for your clinic!!! Keep up the amazing work!

Took my sweet baby boy in on Friday to be seen. They took him back right away which was awesome. Told me his white blood cell counts were low, he had an internal infection, and was severly dehydrated. They put him on IV and oxygen, and to come back in 2 hours, then called again and said come back up at 8 pm. Fine. 1200 dollars later and dead kitten. They sent him home in the worst possible state. He barely made it 6 hours. I found him dead on the bathroom floor. You guys said he would be fine in 24hours. He couldn't even stand up, let alone lift his head! I called you, and was told someone would reach out to us that worked on Munchkins case. This was at 6am yesterday. You're telling me no one is in to call me back? Also emailed you 2 different times. I have alot of unanswered questions. I am heartbroken. Disgusted. In debt now. No kitten. This is unreal that someone can just ignore you after a tragedy.

My cat was very sick, and I tried going to two other emergency vet offices that were a little bit closer. They could not see me at all that night. I came to this office and they took my cat right away to the back, and called me a couple hours later giving an update and a plan. Everyone was so nice and helpful despite it being what looked like a horrible & busy night for them. They kept my cat overnight and treated him very well. The next day they gave me everything I needed and helped me feel a lot better going forward. They were even very kind over the phone when I called back about some questions I had. They were very very busy but still took the time to make me feel like I had the best experience I could’ve managed given the situation.

My dog started acting funny the other night I called around and no one would see her. We felt horrible our poor pup wasn’t eating, drinking, playing! But we got a hold of this place and they took great care of her fast!!!

Went in with my dog having 4 seizures instead of treating him all they did was give him vellum and send him home. They also put on paperwork I declined bloodwork and labs which they never offered I had a sponsor covering the charges. Do not send your animal here they do not care one bit about your pet they are only a number and money to them. I have no meds for him to make it through the night and they did not even bother to stop his vomiting and diarrhea. Instead I am left in distress and hoping he will be ok until I call his vet in the morning.

Saved my cat’s life on a SUNDAY night, it was pricey, but thats the cost of life, she was sent home with meds & my questions were answered. They were open when nobody else was. -Heads up, the parking lot is terribly small, park in nearby salon 2 doors down, youll thank me later.-

DON'T GO! A bunch of liars work there. They said it would take 1-2 hours, and it took them 7 hours overall to see my dogs. Just kept getting the run around, and lied to when asking for status updates. Got three different excuses each time. First they said my dogs were being seen at hour two, but this of course didn't happen. Second check a couple hours later, they said a staff member got hurt an had to go to the emergency room(that one might be true, not sure), ok cool fine, but how does that have any effect for my dog that was seen two hours prior supposively..... Third check, "we had other older dogs that were sick and had to be seen first but not yours. My dogs are puppies, and since they're smaller could have complications just as easily as the older dogs. It's an emergency room, all of the situations are serious... So how is it that my baby dogs have to wait longer than other older dogs??? Just puzzling to me.

I had to rush my Dog Kali here from Rochester. The other emergency vets were full, but they were able to take her right away. She had ruptured a disk in her back, and needed to see a neurologist. This was 11pm on a sunday night, so we went here. They took her in and immediately suggested getting her pain reduced (she was in agony, and bit me out of fear). They got her as comfortable as possible, and then quickly arranged a neorological visit for her issue. They did great work with her, getting her calm and sedated. Thank you to everyone for the help. They also came back with a refund of over $200, from their original estimate. I had no idea, they called and issued me a credit. Emergency vet care is expensive, but they did a great job in a terrible situation. I would recommend this place w/out hesitation.

We have been in and out of VES since Thursday. Then they tell me that they can't help me only to refer me to Oakland Veterinary Referral Service (OVRS) WITHOUT following OVRS's transfer protocol. I called them about this and they said that they would get back to me. They didn't. When I called back, they said that they had transferred the records and done their part. They hadn't. They transferred the records but DID NOT TALK TO and OVRS doctor as is required to complete the transfer process. Since my dog has not been "transferred," OVRS cannot help me. I

I just picked up my dogs from Veterinary Emergency Service in Madison Heights. I have to say, I experienced none of what the negative reviews say about the staff and care. Despite the parking lot being jam-packed, they worked quickly and efficiently to treat both of my dogs for a potentially fatal accidental prescription med ingestion. The staff was kind, caring and professional even during my late night and early morning calls. Is it expensive? Sure, but having gone to several emergency vets in the Detroit area, they are in line with other facilities. It's an emergency vet, they have 24 hour treatment and monitoring; it's what my dogs needed and what they received. Thank you so much! I'm very grateful for everyone who assisted in their care. Note to the manager, the gal working the desk last night, I'm afraid that I didn't note her name, was a ray of sunshine during a frightening few hours. What a gem!

It seems that some of the people that work here are in the wrong profession as they do not care for animals. They “treat” animals because animals don’t have a voice to communicate that they are being neglected and mistreated. Even individuals in leadership positions like the manager Abby. If people in management and leaderships positions lead like this and mistreat the animals how do you expect the other staff to conduct themselves. I highly recommend looking elsewhere for pet-care if you actually care about your animals.

Prices are outrageous, took my dog here and they tried to charge 900.00 for them to drain his ear and have meds for a few days. Highway robery. If I could give 0 stars I would

This review is long overdue. Few months back my puppy Cash had fractured his leg, and this was the only place that would take him on a Monday night out of twelve emergency vets I contacted. In my opinion, emergency care will never be cheap, neither is owning a pet. They were extremely busy but still didn’t not deny my puppy medical care. The staff was also was very attentive and sincere. Thank you to everyone at this emergency vet!

They were the only nearby (within 30-45 mins or so) animal hospital not at full capacity and with a reasonable wait time (1 hour as cited over the call) when I was trying to take my dog in late on a Thursday night. As per standard procedure I called once in the parking lot. I quickly stated the reason for being there and cited the Pet Poison Helpline reference case #, and they asked to see and treat her immediately due to the severity of the issue. The staff was very kind despite being understaffed (as all vets and medics facilities seem to be nowadays), and they provided her ample and good care, as well as a detailed breakdown of how they treated her and next steps. She is thankfully now back to perfect health, and I am stress free. After mulling between 4 and 5 stars, overall, I think they deserve a 5 star review, as I think my one concern is just me being a bit too critical. But I would still like to leave that one piece of constructive feedback for the hospital (see below), along with all of my positive takeaways above. The only small drawback from my experience was that I only received 1 update call during my 3 or so hours spent waiting in the parking lot while my dog was being cared for. In respect of their time and likely being understaffed I didn’t call or go in and bother them, trusting that they were taking good care of her (in hindsight I think I should have asked anyway, but hindsight is 20/20). I think it would have been nice to receive at least 1 more quick update call, given the length of time spent there. Although I’m sure they were definitely occupied taking other calls/caring for the pets. The total cost of treatment seemed expensive at first, but given it was my first time at an emergency animal hospital and my girlfriend mentioned it typically is very expensive, I think it was actually a very reasonable price for all of the treatments given on short notice. Overall, it ended up being a very pleasant experience for me, despite initially being very stressed out as a rightfully concerned owner. They’re currently at the top of my list for emergency hospitals to call in the future.

I can’t say enough about the great care our dog Winston, received. With a penchant for eating foreign things, Winston was treated there several times within one week. Each time the staff handled things efficiently and professionally, despite being up against a constant stream of incoming patients. The doctor explained the diagnosis and treatment recommendations and the outcome was very good. All in all, we are thankful for their service and the obvious sacrifices the staff makes to serve their patients. Winston is now resting comfortably. Once again, many thanks to the staff.

I have used this clinic seldomly but consistently for over 20 years. I have no complaints. Yes, they have been very busy at peak times and that can be overwhelming for all parties. I'm a physician and can understand the difficulties of managing emergencies. I believe fully that they are compassionate and provide high quality care, sometimes at the busiest of times. This past Labor day Sunday I needed emergency care for my boy and called 5 clinics. All were overwhelmed with patients. I think from COVID and other reasons more people own pets and there is not enough animal clinics to handle the demand. They are all overwhelmed. My regular vet is not seeing any new patients. I brought my boy in last week and he was dead on arrival. They immediately met me at my car and carried him in, but it was too late. They handled the aftercare. They declined to charge me anything. They put me and my partner in a private room to grieve and see Baxter one last time. They were in no rush for me to leave. They were genuinely caring and I would recommend them highly. I'm glad they exist and easily recommend them as capable, compassionate, caring, and well qualified.
