VCA Oshtemo Animal Hospital Kalamazoo, Michigan

We've brought our cats to VCA oshtemo on several occasions, previously we worked with Dr. Heckaman, he was informative, patient and really seemed to love animals. That is what kept us going back. However my last two visits have been with a new vet, Dr. Lin, I'm sure he knows what he's doing but he genuinely does not seem to like cats. Our most recent exams were extremely rushed, he lacked patience and was not very personable. He even seemed a bit nervous around our cats, every move or sound they made, he accused them of being aggressive which is far from the case and had never been an issue in the past. For these reasons we will be finding a new vet, going to the vet is stressful enough, I'd rather put my pets in the care of someone who loves cats as much as we do. I'll still give 3 stars because my initial experiences were great and the vet techs are still fantastic.

Needing a new vet for my 2 pups. I heard good things about them. We went for our first visit and I fell in love with them. My older boy was scared but they took great care of him. He was so excited and happy when he came out, he must have had a great time. They really treated him like a star

The staff is great. They're very helpful, and it never feels like they nickel and dimeing. And they are doing a great job keeping up with COVID regulations. Definitely a place I'd recommend.

Best Vet's office ever! Very friendly staff especially "Grammy Lou" they show lots of love and compassion towards every animal and people. The vet doctor I had was amazing each and every time. This last appointment I had been told you weren't allowed in they came out and handled my fur baby with so much care and love. After my appointment the vet called and talked to me. Give them a shot with your fur baby or babies you won't be disappointed.

We adopted Pixie in March and she's my first dog. Every time I came to VCA they gave me and my husband SO much detailed information and always left us well informed and comfortable! Every member of the team is amazing and ready to help in any way. They even saved my baby's deciduous teeth after the extractions so I can keep them haha Dr. Amy is absolutely amazing!!! I'm so grateful for all of her time and help and am so grateful we take Pixie to her. She is never in a hurry to explain what's going on and is so unbelievably honest and passionate about animals! Her primary focus is your pet's comfort and has no problem numbing your pet even under anesthesia! She is also very gentle and extremely brilliant!!!! My baby definitely didn't suffer and was in the best of hands. Thank you guys, from the bottom of my heart, for taking care of her so well! Day 2 after dental surgery and my baby is running around happy and I know she's not in pain :) thank you! thank you! thank you!!

Absolutely wonderful staff and doctors! They were very welcoming to me and our dog Jobie as a new client and patient. Very informative, friendly, and helpful. Jobie was very nervous to be at the vet, but they all worked very well with him and it was a positive experience for the both of us. Beautiful facility as well!

This is an AMAZING place for pet care. Dr. Dixon took a lot of time with my dog and I making sure he had the best care. She answered all of my questions. GO TO VCA ! You won't be disappointed !

The staff is fabulous. They go out of their way to welcome you and to make you feel comfortable. They offer options two procedures or medication. They are all wonderful.

We recently brought our 10 yr old dog to Dr. Amber Dickson for a new patient exam. Although she had been previously cared for by another vet some things had gone unnoticed. We shared that our pup had developed some foul smelling breath and seemed to have lost her appetite. Upon examining her, Dr. Dickson advised us that she would need some teeth removed. Dr. Dickson scheduled an appointment for us as soon as a spot was open and very efficiently and professionally completed the procedure. She had to call us to inform us that unfortunately our dog would need several additional teeth removed but it would give our dog a much better quality of life, and her painful chewing was coming from the additional teeth. I’m so thankful and blessed that we listened to Dr. Dickson. Our pup runs around happy once again and is eating her meals with eagerness! Thank you Dr. Dickson and the rest of the Oshtemo Vet team! You are all so wonderful and kind! If you want precise, proactive, and professional veterinary care this is absolutely where you need to go!

There have been a few times that I’ve come here and it wasn’t the smoothest of appointments but they treat the animals with a lot of care and respect and if you’re a client the take you in the day of or day after. Some of the communication between vet to secretary and secretary to client isn’t the best and some information gets lost if you don't ask all the right questions but all in all the best vet I’ve had. And a VERY special thanks to Nancy, she was incredible with caring for my cat and makes you feel comfortable while talking with her. She made this clinic memorable in the best way possible.

My old guy was really not feeling well and I needed to get into the Vet asap. My current Vet had a last minute appointment for me but reneged and then could not make space for us. To be fair it was a Monday, which can get kinda crazy at a Vet office. I called Oshtemo Animal Hospital and they got back to me right away to come in as a new client. The front staff was very nice. When I arrived the parking was easy, the lobby was clean and we got into a room quick. Dr. Amber Dickson was great! Loved the ease of her exam and treatment plan. She listened with empathy to my concerns and seemed in lock step with our needs for our pup. We got medications filled and recheck exam set up. I got everything I needed that day and was happy with the price. They are not cheap, nor should they be for excellent care. I believe the pricing to be fair. More so, we are happy to have finally found a Veterinary hospital of quality in the Kalamazoo area. Thanks Dr. Dickson

I never have done a review before but my experience at VCA Osthtemo Hospital made me want to share my experience. I had an appointment to have my 20yr old cat put down on 1/11/2020. Dr Lin came in an introduced himself and the first question he asked us was If we wanted to have blood drawn for a check up since he had not been there in two years. I was a bit taken back by the question and had to remind him that we were there to have the old cat put down. The cat was a feisty one and asked him if we could avoid an IV and do an IM shot. Dr Lin said he had never heard of using an IMA shot to put down an animal. I told him I took my 70lb lab to Oakwood Vet and they gave her an IM shot and it worked. We wanted to avoid the stress on the cat because we knew he would go down fighting. Dr Lin tried to assure us that is Vet techs are the best.The next thing we heard while waiting for the cat to be brought back to us was his loud screaming. Dr Lin poke his head in the door and told us that he needed to sedate the cat to get the IV in. In the meantime we are waiting for the cat a Vet tech comes in and ask if we can pay in full. I looked at and asked if she was serious. I told her the job was not done and they would be full at the end of the visit. I also asked why she came in at this sad time. I asked if I said no would they not put my cat down the Vet techs response was that Dr Lin told her to ask the question. Dr Lin made it back in the room with a cat sedated and looking half dead. It was not the cat that we sent back to get an IV. I told him that he pretty much killed the cat in the backroom. My advice to Dr Lin is to have a better bedside manner when it comes to listening to clients making very hard decisions. I was not impressed by him trying to make a last minute buck by asking if we wanted blood drawn on the cat that was being put down. The experience was horrible on top of putting the cat down.

I took my cats for an evaluation and shots. Everyone was so kind and efficient. I could tell they had lots of experience and knowledge about animals.

I would recommend this vet ty for taking care of my obie you all are so amazing with the animals

A little expensive but great service and it feels like they truly care!!

They always take great care of my Yorkie. I called in the morning because he was sick and they fit us in that same morning.
