Awful customer service. I dropped my dog off at 9:45 for a simple check up and was not given any updates through the day. I called multiple times to check her status and was given no information about when i would be able to get her. Finally at 4:45 I was able to pick up my dog. They gave me very little information about how she spent the HOURS she was in their care and did not say anything about her physical. We decided to get her a new vet and cancel her wellness plan. Cancelling the plan took weeks and the customer service staff at both the Salem location and at headquarters were terrible. DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THE WELLNESS PLAN.

I don’t really write any reviews to businesses out there, because I rather keep things to my self, good or bad, however, I’d be doing a disservice to my community if I didn’t share my experience with Banfield over the years. I’ve been bringing my pets to Banfield for 10+ years, and I couldn’t be happier with the way they treated my dog Spike, that unfortunately passed last week, every person from the staff were super helpful since day 1 that Spike got sick, and it has been 5+ years. They all cared about his well-being and mine as well, because it was really tough to make a decision to say goodbye to my best friend last week. They were all understanding and supported me throughout the entire process. If anyone in my neighborhood is looking for a great Pet Hospital to take care of your family, Banfield in Salem MA is the place to bring them. Banfield staff, keep up the great work and thank you so much for everything you guys have done for my family! Raph

While getting an appointment in Salem has been difficult during covid and staff shortages, we truly love not just the vet services but grooming also!

Dr.Scott Hamburg is a wonderful veterinarian. He answered all questions I had. Explained everything in great detail to me. I got the feeling he truly cares and is passionate about his work. His assistant was very professional and attentive. They took great care of my dog. His teeth were in very rough shape. I truly thought he would need to extract some of them. To my dismay, Dr Hamburg and his assistant were able to clean my dogs teeth. They look BEAUTIFUL! Pearly whites. My dog has a new personality thanks to him. I believe he might have been in quite a bit of pain. Constantly trying to lick and remove some of the nasty plaque himself. Now the licking has stopped completely. My dog is smiling again!! Thank you Dr Scott Hamburg

First impressions with the counter is the worse experience for us we came 10 mins before appointment .. we are in the line so it is fine.. when our turn she said step aside and take care the next person because it is our first time so we have to wait to be registered… is that why we are in the line for??? She’s got to see doctor after appointment’s time almost an hour later. And when I ask the vet about should I fix my babygirl… instead of tell me why I should or shouldn’t, she said how are you going to handle 6-7 puppies !!!!!! If you would tell me that it will effect her health that would have been professional’s talk First visit was about $250 and I have to bring my babygirl back for the real shot … we decided to be there 20 mins just in case of there’s line.. and oh nice there’s no line .. but the counter don’t wanna check in us and told us to come back in 20 minutes!!!!!!’ For those fee I paid for this service… I don’t even want to give them any star I hope this comment will help a new pet owner lover knowledge..

Pleasant and knowledgeable staff. Only downfall is the pricing of the plans. Price increases so often for the plan not to cover much.

They put money over my animal's health. They refused service because I didn't have the hundreds of dollars up front. Terrible. Stay away.

It took almost a month to get an appointment here. The appointment was confirmed through email. Only to be told upon arriving at the car park that they did not have any doctor and so the hospital is closed. They were not apologetic at all and even blamed me for not having a voicemail. Was that really the issue? I did not get any advice via email about rescheduling. Totally not professional. There is no customer service-orientation or a sense of accountability to customers, considering that I was going to be a first time client. If they treat clients like this — with no regard or respect — I wonder how they treat pets. Do not go to this hospital if you can help it.

I went to cancel my wellness plan with Benfield yesterday. A young girl by the name of Emily really helped me and I just want to give a shout out to her! A lot of ppl that work here do not give you the best service and it’s very frustrating but Emily really helped me and was nice. Also just so people know, get pet insurance. I have nationwide and it covers insurance as well as wellness. I paid a lot here for them not to cover my dogs injury. Also they do not answer their phone calls, please fix this.

They were wonderful. At a very difficult time, they were kind and patient. They made saying goodbye to our 15+ year old fur baby about as easy as it could be.

I was at the PetSmart portion actually, and got me..ok service, not many people working, but my mom's cat used to be a patient there. They kept trying to upsell the overpriced insurance mom was paying with her Social Security check. Then they belittled her because her cat has anxiety issues and got fiesty with a worker. Needless to say, we only shop there if in the area.

I have a 145 lb English Mastiff with massive anxiety. Before making my first appointment I spent 45 min explaining this. I was told we can treat your dog with no problem. I told them he needed to either be with me or medicated to be seen without me. 1st visit he was muzzled and there for 2 hours no treatment could be done because he was freaking out. They said because of COVID I could not be with Ollie during treatment and they could not treat him without being medicated. All he needed was two vaccination shots but because of COVID, was told I can't be with him to get the shots. I made a 2nd appointment and got medications to calm him for his next appointment. I also signed up and paid for their insurance. 2nd visit he was muzzled again and medicated but still not treated. The meds did not work 2 hours of him freaking for nothing. A 3rd visit was made with " drugs that would put down a horse" given. The meds made him aggressive and I could not muzzle him. No treatment could be given. A 4th visit was made for 5:30 pm but then I was called and told to be there at 2 pm because they wanted to sedate him and he would need to be monitored. So I muzzled him again and brought him in. Each time he is frantic and scared. After 35 min we are brought back and he was given an injection. Why couldn't they give his vaccinations! Why 4 horrible visits? Why did they say they needed to charge $200.00 for the sedation shot? He only needed two vaccination shots. They told me I could not be with him for the vaccination shots. But I could be for the $200.00 sedation shot? Then after he is sedated I am told come back in about 2 hours they will call me. I checked out with the front desk and left. They call 10 min after leaving tell me to come back. Don't tell me why. Call again and tell me he is jumping at people? He is muzzled and sedated? Then the vet over the phone calls me and starts talking down to me. I was done. Told them to bring my dog. Some lady comes out, no mask, with my dog. Wouldn't give him to me finally does and says " you need to pay your bill." For what? All you did was drug an put my dog through hell.

I regretfully signed up for the kitten care plan. My first appointment was fine. I signed up for monthly payments had the first round of shots etc. I wanted her to have one of her included exams, and waited until the pandemic stress subsided a bit. I booked an appointment 3 weeks prior for late July. I had a worker call me the Friday prior asking if I could reschedule because their schedule was very booked. I let them know I wanted her to get her flea shots as she started to become a partially outdoor cat. The worker informed me “those weren’t really a big deal and she would be fine without them”. This immediately seemed odd because they’ve always tried to sell me on this before. I wanted to be considerate and agreeable because I understand what it’s like to work through a pandemic, so I agreed. I rescheduled her appointment for the next available in Mid August on a Sunday. The receptionist called me the day before on Saturday morning letting me know she didn’t need her rabies shot until next month and to reschedule the exam for then. At this point I knew I would not be agreeing to another annual plan with them and just wanted to get some worth to the $35 monthly payments I’d been making. I told her unfortunately I needed to keep the appointment and would be bringing her for the included complimentary exam Sunday morning. I bring her Sunday morning at 10 and am told she’d be done in “a few hours around 12”. It’s around 1pm and I decide to call. I called both numbers I’ve received calls from Banfield from 10 minutes apart with no answer either time. At this point I decide to just go in at 1:30. When we arrive there is a sign saying “they’ll be back in an hour”. Thankfully we saw someone within 5 minutes and asked for the status. They came out and told me if I hadn’t gotten a call she just wasn’t ready yet. My partner asked how long would be remaining as it had almost been 4 hours at this point. The assistant at that point then offered to get the vet and have her finished up in 20 minutes. The vet came out in 25 minutes and said her checkup was great and she was healthy. Everything the vet said she had done couldn’t have taken 4 hours. And if it was going to, a heads up with a realistic estimate would’ve been appreciated. The actual animal care staff is better than the receptionist team, but not by much. They will take your money, but try and prevent you from getting the services you pay monthly for. I tried to give them a chance despite all the reviews I’ve heard. This is my first 1 star review on a place and honestly I’d give it a 0 if possiblé. Don’t waste your time and money like I did. :)

I did not go to Banfield pet hospital. I was at the petsmart instead having my dog groomed. But if I have to say something about Banfield it would be 4 month ago I was at the store petsmart and my dog got injured the manager of petsmart said lets bring her to Banfield right here and we were ignored they said they were closed and would not see her even thought they had the veterinary available and petsmart manager was are you kidding you are still taking in patience why can you just check this puppy out quick. Nevertheless i will never bring my dog to Banfield and would not recommend them. I complaint to petsmart corporate and also Banfield corporate petsmart got back to me saying sorry for the inconvenience and the accident and they said they will forward to Banfield but Banfield never got back to us. I called Banfield headquarters and file complaint but never heard anything about. So for that reason alone i would never bring any of my pets to Banfield.
