The staff are the sweetest and really love the animals. I really appreciate the time I am given when at an appointment and having them truly listen to me.

I was VERY impressed with my dog Sparkys appointment today. The staff was very knowledgeable and explained everything to my husband and me today. I absolutely love this vetinary hospital. Definetly would recommend them.

Compared to my previous vet i was absolutely blown away by how wonderful and kind everyone at VCA was. I have never felt more satisfied with the level of care my cat received. The tech Keeley and Dr. K were both so incredible kind and gentle with my cat and i could genuinely feel the compassion and commitment to helping him get better. Everyone from Karah at the front desk to the other techs who helped with the procedure, they all were so amazing. I cannot recommend them enough!

Dr. GilMurray is amazing! So patient and skillful when treating our dogs, one of which is quite difficult during vet visits! She is also so responsive to follow up questions. Cannot say enough positive things about the clinical staff at VCA Calvert.

I am so impressed with how knowledgeable Dr. Capella is with guinea pigs. Twice now this hospital has come to my rescue for my fur babies. They have brought 2 of my guinea pigs back from severe illness. Once when my female had mites and now when one of my boars has an upper respiratory infection which can be fatal to guinea pigs. They immediately took him in and put him in an oxygen room , gave him a nebulizer treatment and then throughly checked him over. Dr. Capella was very friendly and caring she really listened to my concerns as I've already seen one pig die from an U.R.I. I felt very informed when the vet. Tech explained the treatment plan and reassured by her that we were on the right treatment plan. Super friendly and extremely caring ! This is the only place I will bring my piggies from now on!

Read through these reviews and you will see the care you receive from the Vets and Techs is really great...while the office staff is horrendous. The best word to describe most of them is "nasty." Not to mention their constant inability to do what they say or act like a decent human being to you. I get people have bad days but being friendly is a part of being in a support position. Negative demeanor is not appreciated and if you don't like your job there are lots of other places you can work. Maybe find one where you don't have to talk to people.

UPDATE: Amanda took the time to correct the situation and provide us with options and we were able to get our dog seen. Thank you Amanda! Dr. Calvert helped us out and promptly followed up. The doctors and techs at Calvert are great but I was just told by the office admin I cannot get my sick dog in for a month and we are an existing patient for over 6 years. I was told that they have an influx of new patients they are trying to accommodate and I find this NOT acceptable and unfortunately will be looking for a new vet. I would have expected them to ask a doctor if they could squeeze my dog in and the office assistant was snarky and offered nothing.

Just some background: I am a registered veterinary technician; I just don’t work in an animal hospital setting anymore. I have tried a few vets, but I am most comfortable here, and especially working with Dr. Capella. I appreciated her communication when my beloved cat was diagnosed with terminal illnesses. It was a difficult time, but I am very thankful to Dr. Capella and the team for their honesty and availability. It was an awful situation that could have been much worse, and I am confident that we did everything we could for him, which puts me at peace.

It has been 2mos. since my dog Chase passed. I waited as to not write a review under emotion. VCA was his Vet of record. I took him in as a very weak/sick dog. Dr.Hepner gave him a half baked exam & released w/ clean bill of health. Chase was dead in 1 week. Vets. must heed the advice of pet owner who truly/completely know their pets, but instead I was treated as a pet owner over reacting. Chase was my life & reason to live, my soul has been ripped from my being. Since this VCA conglomerate bought out Calvert & the turnover with employees it has Not been to standard. Please VCA, do Not respond with Spin to this review.

I took my dog here a month ago and due to Covid I wasn’t able to go in the office which wasn’t a problem, but when I left I didn’t receive any paperwork of my dogs visit. I was sent a text to pay my bill and was told they would email a detailed report of my dogs visit with a list of vaccines she got. I NEVER received this and I have requested for it several times. I was told it was email which it was not... I checked all my mailboxes as well as spam nothing was sent to me except for the receipt of my payment. I need these records my dog got a rabies shot at this visit and I have no record of it. Just very unprofessional and not helpful at all, not to mention this was my dogs first time at this office so I would expect a detailed exam since it was their first time seeing her. Save your time and money and go to one of the other amazing vets that are in this area there are plenty to choose from.

Love, care, and medical excellence are the norm at Calvert. My dog has chronic medical issues that were detected by the doctors here. We have been going for four years and will continue. Calvart will treat your pet with the absolute best care in the area or refer you if they believe you need a specialist. They will go above and beyond. After years of treatment here, my dog chipped a tooth on a toy. Dr. Hepner called me a bit after she did my dog's tooth extraction letting me know that she had some toys for him to pick from. She went above and beyond. This is the type of excellent service you can expect.

Both vists they charged hundreds over what they said they would. My 10 week old kitten got her shots there and has been limping ever since. I took her back and they charged me for xrays they were "not able to get". I'm not sure what they are actually able to do since math and basic pet handling of a sweet and very friendly kitten are not their strong points.

My boys and I love VCA Calvert Vet Center. The team is amazing! Whenever I have questions, the whole team is always available to answer my questions and help me find what fits my budget.

We had been with VCA for 5 years. The team of doctors and techs are amazing but the office staff is why we are leaving. In the last two weeks we have loaded up for appointments made via phone and online to turn around with no medical help for my dogs toothache. Both appointments were not recorded and I was told that when I called it was my fault the person in the office did not record my appointment. The office person told me twice that this was my fault that I would show up at 11:40 on a Saturday to take my dog to the vet. I did not have an appointment and it would be $125 to be seen. The second time (schedule 2 weeks prior) I was told they were having trouble with their online scheduling and I should have called. I hate leaving the doctors but I need a team that I can depend on when it comes to the care of my animals, my family members! I warn you that if you want a dependable team that you should look for a different clinic. The office staff is not there for you or your pet!

Very dissatisfied with my recent experience at this vet talking to Zoe. Been taking my two parrots here over the years and really valued the care they received. One got very very ill over the weekend when Calvert was closed so we of course made an emergency run. I had all results sent to Calvert as I really value their knowledge. When I called today to inquire about the results I was told heartlessly it will be a $38 interpretation fee. I feel this is terribly insensitive, we’ve been patients for years, spending hundreds of dollars there and would have obviously been there this time if they had been open. All I asked was for an opinion on the results I HAD sent over. It’s as if they are just out for money and don’t truly care about the well being of your pet. I have a bird experiencing seizures and am genuinely fearful of the outcome, spent hundreds at the emergency vet and will likely have more visits to Calvert in the coming weeks, the least they could do was read results and show some compassion.

Dr. Calvert and their staff are phenomenal! I have a cat that is not friendly and cannot be touched by anyone except me. The Calvert staff go out of their way to help accommodate my cats needs and provide me with regular updates on how he is doing while he is in their care to ease my tension of the “unknown”. This is the best place to bring your animals!

I called in for an ER visit for my rabbit. There was an apparent "miscommunication" from the caller to the vet. Long story short, my time and money had been wasted. My rabbit could not be helped, and I was told an exaggeration of his health condition and guilt tripped by the vet into trying to get me to spend more than just an exam on him when she could not address his issues. I should have just gone to STAHL in VA first rather than try going here. Never again.

We took our guinea pigs to Calvert Vet for a checkup and the staff were so friendly and helpful! The vet tech Sydney was very gentle with our boys and had a wonderful sense of humor. Dr. DeJesus was extremely knowledgeable about guinea pigs and had an excellent bedside manner. The clinic itself was also a clean, welcoming place (they even had paw prints embedded in the ceiling tiles!) We look forward to bringing our pigs here in the future!

My dog was throwing up blood. They were assuming pancreatitis(as was I). When given my treatment plan options, I was NOT notified that their in house CBC doesn’t test for pancreatitis. 500$ later and dog is undiagnosed. Going elsewhere tomorrow for a thorough exam.

I have been a long time customer of Calvert. I love Dr. Gilmer and trust her with all of my fur babies. I trust her recommendations and don't feel she recommends me to have any unnecessary treatments for my pet. I feel comfortable having her as my pets doctor and will continue to see her as long as she is there. I will say that I find it to be a little more costly when compared to family and friends visits to their veterinarian. I have also been to a vet that offered a small multi-pet discount, which while small was appreciated and helpful. My sister's vet also offers her a discount for being a long time customer. Again, it is small, but it is nice to know it's there. While the price is sometimes a bit of a shock to the system, I pay for the trust that I have in the vet that cares for my fur babies. That means the most to me.

Personal care for every pet, with a focus on the impact to the family as well. We love all the vets here and will not go anywhere else. 1 parrot, 2 dogs, and 2 cats call Calvert their extended family.

Brought our dog here a few years ago for an injury. Every single person was rude and had a serious attitude. I felt like I was being talked down to the entire time I was there. The staff have a huge stigma against pit bull types, and aren’t afraid to let us show. I was put down for raw feeding, was told I was uneducated, and was blamed for my dogs anxiety and fear. I was told he should already be neutered, so he could be ‘fat and happy’. He can’t be trim and happy? I also had leftover ham as bribery, and was layed into for feeding him ham. I don’t feed ham to him at every meal. It was a high value treat and I thought it would help distract him. Apparently I’m the worst pet owner ever and have no knowledge of how to take proper care of him. Yet this place will push a toxic science diet into you so they can make a buck. His yearly bloodwork is impeccable, by the way. Teeth clean as can be. His vet jokes that he will live forever, he’s so healthy and shows very little signs of aging at almost 7. This place is just terrible and they only want your money. Their attitudes made that quite clear. You couldn’t pay me to go back, I could never trust people like them with my four legged family members. It was the worst experience I’ve ever had in the history of vet visits. Fear mongering and bullying is their technique.
