After being traumatized by our last visit to our previous vet office of 8 years, this office was kind, compassionate, and empathetic, from my first phone call to schedule the appointment, to checking out. First of all, it felt good to have my feelings validated, as we had loved our previous vet office and I had a hard time believing they had performed unnecessary medical treatment against my consent. I felt a little crazy for wanting to switch vets. (I still do...I was recommending that office left and right, anytime someone asked and sometimes even without them asking.) Dr. Matthews and her staff were excellent and I love her conservative approach to medicine. The integrative style really attracted me to the practice and I was happy to see it play out. My agoraphobic cats were a little out of their element, but the one was even walking all over the appointment room floor, after her exam! I highly recommend this place, especially for anyone who feels a bit jaded by the traditional medicine route and wants something more for their animals.

To fulfill my breeder's contract, I had to get my puppy checked out within three days of being picked up. I called EVERYWHERE: My own vet, Portland, Westbrook, Scarborough, Buxton, Brunswick, Bath, Falmouth, Freeport, Saco, no dice. These sweet people fit me in their schedule. To top it off, my GPS kinda blew it, so I ended up being 20 minutes late and they still fit me in! They were professional, warm, patient. I would HIGHLY recommend them. If they weren't almost an hour away, I'd switch! Do not hesitate to take your pet there. She/he will be in excellent hands.

Our dog Max is difficult to handle and touch. He presents a real challenge to a veterinarian who needs to treat him. Dr Matthews and her staff treated him for the first time yesterday and the outcome was amazing for Max and my family! Very nicely done by a most professional doctor and staff!

We've been going to Dr Matthews since we had our first pet together after we got married in 1996, she's a very reliable Veterinary always answers your questions, concerns and anything else you need to know. Everyone at Village Vet is super friendly and make you welcome as well as caring about your pet.

Dr Matthews and her wonderful staff really helped me out today. We are vacationing in York and I realized I had left my dog’s tick and heart worm medication at home and he was due to take them. I reached out to Village Veterinary and they could not have been more helpful! They contacted my home vet and got faxed to them a dose of each med. I can’t thank you all enough! The tick situation here, and everywhere, is awful. Now I can have peace of mind that my golden buddy is protected. Thank you!

Great people, great caring vet.

My mother and I both go here and she's one I trust after not having great luck in the past. She goes above and beyond and it is definitely worth driving from Portland to York to go here. I would definitely recommend to anyone seeking a vet.

The girls in the office were beyond pleasant and did everything to make our visit comfortable. Our beloved kitty, Katrina, was handled with special care throughout. The dr was straight, but gentle, about Katrina's diagnosis. She answered all the questions we had and listened patiently while we bragged about sweet Katrina, named after the Hurricane. We left feeling much more confident about what to expect in the coming weeks. The office even followed up with us a few days afterwards.

I had a really good experience bringing my best friend here. They helped me with my tick concern. They went out of their way to call heart guard and get two replacements for me. They also didn’t put pressure on me to get vaccines on my dog that for our situation where not necessary. Thank you!

LOVE Dr. Matthews and all of the staff here. I have so many great things to say about them. 1) They squeezed me in for a last minute appointment when my dog showed signs of an infection. 2) I have a very timid dog that does not like to be picked up or touched by strangers, and they treat her very well and perform exams/Clip nails no problem. 3) my other dog had very unusual swelling after a dog bite on his nose. It would swell and then go down for weeks. Dr. Matthews suggested surgery to open his nose and see if they could find the source of the swelling. Although very hesitant, I was reassured that this procedure would be in my dog’s best interest. During surgery Dr. Matthews found a teeny tiny “sliver” of a piece of bone from his nose that had been shaved off during the attack and was just hanging out there inside his nose. She removed it and showed me afterwards. I couldn’t believe how incredibly tiny it was! My doggie was back to normal after surgery and I couldn’t thank her enough! She truly loves what she does and is the best of the best in my opinion. Very impressed with how she treats and diagnoses. Love all of the holistic approaches as well!

Thanks to Dr. Julie Matthews and her staff at Village Vet, our beloved Rottweiler, Gretchen, is back to her old self. It has taken a while, but we are happy that Gretchen has recovered from a tear/partial ACL tear in her left hind leg. We wanted to avoid surgery and were desperate to find a way to help Gretchen heal. Her back leg was weak and had lost muscle mass, and Gretchen was reluctant to put weight on it. We began with weekly visits for acupuncture and laser therapy, then moved to biweekly visits, and now we come once a month for ...a tune up! All is well, and we have our dog back. She goes for long walks, goes up and down stairs easily, and is once again a happy old girl. We are so happy to have found Dr. Julie and we are grateful for her support and assistance!

I have been searching for just the right vet for a long time for my little terrier Tucker. I prefer natural/holistic methods, or at least open mindedness, and Dr Julie was the perfect solution. She did not look at me like I had 2 heads when I said I had concerns about over-vaccinating and even heartworm pills. She listened and cared and put me and Tucker at ease. Tucker did SO WELL there when he usually has major anxiety visiting the vet. The vet techs were excellent and you could tell they really cared. I am "over the moon" to have found them!!

They don’t honor the prices they quote over the phone.

My reason for choosing Village Vet came when my senior dog was experiencing difficulties breathing due to a collapsed trachea. I was talking with a friend about how I had wished to treat my dog holistically, and that is when my friend referred Dr. Julie Mathews. I have nothing but good to say about Dr. Mathews, Dr. Bluestone, and ALL the staff at Village Vet. I hold them in high regard for the wonderful care they provided to my Riley. I could always count on them.. they made me same day/last minute appointments, always followed up next day after each visit, after hour calls directly from the doctor to discuss my concerns, left medicine out for pick up late Friday before weekend, you name it they went above and beyond! The homeopathic options Dr. Mathews prescribed to Riley offered her relief from her symptoms. I have complete trust in Dr. Mathews abilities, she really knows her stuff. I believe Riley's prolonged health and her improved quality of life is a testament to the care they provided to her. My dog has since passed and I find comfort knowing I gave her the best care possible and that was due in part to Village Vet and their caring staff. Dr. Julie Mathews and all the staff is highly regarded by me, regardless of the type of pet you have or your choice in treatment plan, hands down they are the best!

My dog has been coming here for several years now and gets the best care. I wouldn’t go any place else. The staff as well as the doctors are always available if anything is wrong with him and I sincerely appreciate that. I truly believe he would not be here right now if not for Village Vet.

Our dog and cat were both well cared for.

I took my boxer opie for a cut on his ear that was pretty bad. We did some cold laser treatments on him and after 4 times his ear is completely healed. I can't thank the staff enough for all their help with my little boy.
