Happy Tails Portland, Maine

I cannot recommend Happy Tails enough. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. They go above and beyond for our two dogs. They conduct pawsonality interviews for new dogs to make sure it’s a good fit for all (I so appreciate that daycare and boarding facilities do this!) and our dog Cleo struggled during hers - she suffers from some anxiety and HT worked through a variety of options - housing her in the larger kennel, housing her with her brother Boots and also trying a crate. I spoke on the phone with the manager multiple times during her first few visits and worked out a plan for her that would ultimately make her the happiest and most successful when staying at HT. The amount of thoughtfulness, professionalism and care that they provide for our dogs is unmatched. Cleo has tried other daycares where she says “nope, not going in.” When we arrive at HT her entire body wiggles from excitement and she cannot wait to go. They know the personalities of our two dogs better than anyone and they have them in the appropriate groups of other dogs they get along with and let them go out to the bathroom together before bed when they board there so they can say goodnight to one another. If only every daycare and boarding facility could be like Happy Tails.

Called numerous times and no answer. Tried to make a reservation on the website, wich said call to make an appointment.

Great doggy daycare. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. My dog Kota just loves to go here and play with his friends.

I have a VERY sensitive dog and this is the only daycare out of the 5 or 6 I have been to that he gets excited to go to in the morning. He is very happy to see each and every member of the staff. Begrudgingly, even the nice lady who does his nails. The owner has a strong presence at the business and he is very passionate about the care of your animals. Keep up the good work guys!

So today was “one of those days” I ended up having a last minute emergency and had nobody to watch my little separation anxiety baby. In crisis mode I not only made a request through the gingr app, but also a phone call request for a drop off reservation for my puppy Bear. Thankfully happy tails got back to me very promptly. We raced over and ran inside and I buzzed the walkie for someone to come out and grab my baby. Someone answered me right away saying they would be right out. Lets just say that today I was one of “those customers” that I would never want nor ever strive to be! As I very impatiently waited (serious crisis mode style) I very rudely and very swiftly buzzed the walkie AGAIN (ugh so sorry) even tho I was already answered and hadn’t been waiting for more than a couple mins (really sorry again about that one). Despite my rudeness when the girl came out to collect Bear a minute or so later, she was still so friendly and professional. I profusely apologized and explained that I had an emergency and she was exceptionally compassionate, patient, and understanding with me. Now to add insult to injury not only was I “that customer” but Bear was farting in the car on the drive over, so I had to tell her that he probably needed to go potty right away. Her only response was “no problem I’ll take him right out!” When I picked Bear up I asked the name of the woman who was working around 11:30am and described her hair color so I could get her name to thank her, I really hope I have this right but they were almost positive it was Janelle. So Janelle THANK YOU SO MUCH!! Your a rockstar and I very much appreciated your customer care this morning even if I didn’t have time to properly express my gratitude to you! Now I know the happy tails system isn’t 100% perfect all the time. They care for a lot of dogs, sometimes same day reservation confirmations don’t happen very swiftly at all, and sometimes they’re full even with requests made the previous day which can be very challenging at times- but thanks to Janelle you guys deserve all 5 of these stars! Also on a side note while I was (very impatiently) waiting with Bear this morning standing by the walkie I happened to glance over to my right and saw the camera screen up showing all the outdoor play areas…ALL the dogs looked like they were having SOO MUCH FUN!! I saw multiple small groups of doggies out, each with a human chaperone in their separate yard areas! There’s were kiddie pools set up, lots of play happening, and it even looked like one doggie was potentially there for his pawsonility interview with his own human glued to his side making sure he was safe and happy. I’ve never gotten to see or tour any of the facility and I never asked since covid was in full swing when Bear first started here, but I will say every single dog I saw was happy, engaged, and having a blast. Now my Bear LOVES his little pool at home, he’s obsessed and I can never get him out of it. When I picked him up he had wet dirty paws so I imagine he monopolized one of those pools throughly and that made me really really happy!

Staff not friendly and very poor customer service. Will not be taking my dogs there again

Sunce 2004 my fur pups (past & present) been coming to Happy Tails. The owner is fantastic and present! The staff is always friendly loving and caring. It is a complete community for dogs.

I've been working here for a few weeks now and honestly, the people that run this place absolutely love the dogs! They put so much effort and care into what they do, and the dogs in the daycare and boarding are treated the very best they can be.

My dog loves his visits. I love how exhausted he is at the end of his day. Staff are amazing!

A wonderful, caring staff. We've been bringing our dear dog to Happy Tails ever since she was born (7 years ago), and couldn't be happier with her and our experience there.

They are true animal people. You can tell that the people who work here are here for their passion and not just for a paycheck. They love all of the animals in their care in spite of their quirks and offer a variety of services outside of daycare and boarding. They even have a pool! One of the best selling points is how flexible the pickup and drop off times are, which is not typical of the area, so this is well worth driving out of the way for. Although we are fairly new guests, I look forward to a long relationship with this facility.

I’m wary of any facility that refuses potential clients a tour of where their dog will be kept during the day.

They treat your dog like its his or hers second home. They make you feel comfortable about leaving your furry family member for a weekend if you are traveling and allow you to relax knowing they are in good hands. Defiantly would recommend them.

The puppers loves the place. She always is excited to be there. Great staff.

They obviously love the dogs they care for. Our pup loves to visit them.

We have been going to Happy Tails, Bishop for about 5 years, both daycare and boarding. Lily loves going there! Wonderful staff and facility.

Friendly, entergetic and obviously very happy to take your dog for the day. I'm not sure how we'd make it through a work week without the help of Happy Tails. These people always love pooches. I wouldn't consider another doggy day care. They even offer kongs, walks and toys.

Amazing place! Staff is super friendly and kind. My dog has really bad crate anxiety and they are very understanding about it. I always know my dog is well taken care of there.

My corgi loves it! Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Dogs are "interviewed" to make sure they're a good fit, and there are indoor and outdoor play areas depending on the weather. There are daily and monthly daycare rates depending on your needs, and boarding as well. They only do dogs, not cats. They partner with local animal rescues as well to help homeless pets!

My dog is always so excited when we walk in the door. He knows it will be a fun day.

Been to other places and this is by far the absolute best dog day care and boarding around! They are responsible, attentive, kind and dedicated. They get to know each dog and ensure s/he has an excellent experience. My two dogs flip out when we say, "Wanna go to ... Happy Tails?" It's our favorite :)

A wonderful staff who helped us keep our mother's cat with her while in assisted living. They were there every day to check on his care, feed him, and clean up after him. Their loving care has meant the world to us. I wholeheartedly recommend them.

I've been taking our pup here since she was old enough to go. She LOVES it. We had to stop while she wasn't spayed and life was brutal. I work long shifts, and not many places can accommodate 6:30 AM to 8:00 PM. The staff loves their clients for sure. She's always excited to go, and sleeps like a rock. I drive out of my way to come here. Also have a great walking service with an app to go with to keep you informed! We love Happy Tails
