Compassionate staff and veternarian, Menolly Cote. They love the animals and I hope to volunteer in the future. Thank you to these earth angels.

I love Midcoast Humane Society. I adopted a kitten there October 1, 2019. He is so big now. We did change his name from Bert to Dream Luck. He's an absolutely amazing black cat.

This rescue posted a picture of a puppy. I sent an email within the first hour it was posted. I understand rescues being understaffed and unable to get right back to emails, but after saying on their Facebook page 3 days later that I did not hear back, they replied telling me they did not get an email from me. I clearly showed that it had been received and they deleted and blocked me from their page. Very rude way to run anything. Saw on another review they talked about not being a company and not needing to be polite because of it. Well it’s too bad for their dogs that such terrible people run their shelter. Wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone at all except for the sole reason to save the dogs from them.

My son died in Bowdoin Maine on February 7, 2021. Sagadahoc Sheriff Dietlin secured my son's dog. Ace was taken to Midcoast Humane Society. As soon as I found out where Ace was I called to make arrangements to come get him. I live in Connecticut. I work for a veterinarian, I own my own dog/walking sitting business, I'm on Rover and I train dogs. I also have grooming experience. I don't feel there is anyone more qualified to take care of my grandog than me. Midcoast Humane gave me the run around to say the least. They said they had to get a DNA test on him to see if he was a wolf/dog hybrid....so we waited. Then they said I had to talk to the Maine game warden to get a special license. He never returned my calls. They stated I had no claim to the dog! WHAT? My son wasn't married and had no children, Ace is mine,. and I would really like him back. The Midcoast Humane Society will not tell me or my son where Ace is or what happened to him. They just said he was gone and there was nothing we could do about it. I am DISGUSTED by these people. How dare they do this to a grieving family. We lost RJ and now we can't even have Ace? I'm heartbroken over this whole awful situation. I cannot believe people who work with animals can be so utterly cruel and coldhearted.

Not the best animal shelter around and they charge too much. $200 for a 15 year old dog??

I adopted two kittens from there, they were not adjusted to people so stayed under the couch for the first month, coming out at night to eat and use the litter box. We finally ,after lots of gentle coaxing and bribing , got them to come to us. Now they have been to the vets for shots. Another visit for bad case of worms, respertory problems including one eye shut. When looking at their papers these people knew that there were problems and did not keep them long enough for treatment. They were supposed to give med for 10 more days but did not tell us that. They met us at the door and put them into our carrier! We love them now and it pains us deeply to know they are suffering, the vet just sold us ointment and worm med. The eye is still closed and we have spent a fortune on med and vets!! Not to mention the exorbitant fees to adopt them. When trying to give the worm med to the little girl she bit my husband in 8 places on the hand. This place just wants to get rid of these cats and blames the covid for not doing things right!

I recently adopted two young cats (9 months old) from Midcoast Human in Brunswick. Although I love these kitties with my entire heart, I am extremely sad to say that Midcoast Humane was not very upfront and honest with me. I understand that the adoption of these two kitties during the CoVid pandemic is strange, but the pick up was quick with barely any information provided and I was not given their medical records as promised. I was told they would be emailed to me during pick up. I called shortly after and asked for them to be emailed and was told they would be later that day. A few days later (still no records), I noticed that both kitties were pawing at their food and had snotty noses and eyes, both with a sneeze and one developed a cough. I called my vet AND called Midcoast and asked again for the medical records was told they would be emailed right away, and I verified my email address with them. The next day I went to my vet appointment....(STILL NO MEDICAL RECORDS) I told my vet, and my vet had to call a few times before FINALLY receiving the records. I found out they BOTH had upper respiratory infections (common, I know), so we got the antibiotic for that. BUT I also found out that they both had an EXTREMELY advanced case on Gingivitis. I contacted Midcoast and they said "sorry it must have been an oversight." Needless to say, this gum disease is so bad that my poor babies might need to get all of their teeth removed. :'( Thankful that my babies are happy in my loving home, and are otherwise very healthy. HOWEVER, this is a big financial burden if it is not something people are made aware of in advance.

We just adopted brother & sister ‘tuxedo’ kittens through your out-reach program at the Damariscotta Animal House on Friday. In the 41 hours or so that they have been at home with us, they have not only adjusted well, they’ve already stolen our hearts!! Zucchini & Beet have now become JoJo & Jacinda respectfully. JoJo for the great Celtic basketball player JoJo White and Jacinda to honor Jacinda Ardern, the Prime Minister of New Zealand (where we were when the pandemic hit). They have full run of the house (which we have been kitty-proofing on a regular basis to keep them, us and our home in one piece), but spend 98% of their time in whatever room we happen to be in - they love being around us as much as we love having them! The living room floor has a few fuzzy mice, a couple of balls and a great climbing/scratch post but the favorite pastime is ‘hiding under the chairs and pouncing on my sibling’. They are eating well, drinking lots of water (which they have decided tastes best from cut crystal, so that’s what they get!), playing happily together and getting lots of snuggles! Taking a nap on Daddy’s lap is, according to them, “THE BEST!”. Nights find them snuggled in bed with us, often on the pillows, but occasionally sleeping with their heads on the pillow and their bodies under the covers! We want to thank everyone at Midcoast Humane and the Damariscotta Animal House for bringing us all together!! We are one big happy family! Love, Ann, Alden, JoJo & Jacinda ♥️♥️????????

The team at Midcoast humane does such an incredible job helping animals find their forever homes. We adopted an 8 year old male kitty during our visit. The tech helped us get all of the info about the cats and find the one who would be a good fit for our home and ensure a successful adoption and transition into a new home with another cat and dog. A big thank you to the team for all of their love and passion for what they do to help our four legged friends in need.

Friendly staff had great advice on care and finding a good fit in an animal companion. The facility is clean and organized and the animals are all well socialized and come with a health check by a qualified vet.
