I had an excellent experience with Dr. Guevara and the staff at BVS. I was able to get my 6lb.Pomeranian assessed and surgery performed on both hind legs, in a very short time frame and the results were amazing. The whole staff is very caring as well as professional; they truly care about your pet and it shows. Dr. Guevara discussed and explained all details of surgery. Covid guidelines kept me from meeting Dr. Guevara face to face, however we spoke in detail on the phone throughout the process; he answered all my questions and was very patient. Helena, a surgical tech was my face to face contact; she provided detailed documentation of post op directions and explanation of medications, etc.Helena is a SPECIAL person!

I have nothing but fantastic things to say about this facility!! While traveling, I left my dog’s cardiac meds at home, 8hrs away. They got my pup in, did a full exam, and were able to provide me with enough heart meds to get my little fella through our trip and home. They were kind, gentle with my boy, and very professional. I can’t thank them enough! I recommend them to anyone!!

Wasn't what I had hoped for when I took my baby there. But the Dr and the staff was such a sweet and caring group!! It was very hard to say goodbye to my sweet boy, and the staff was very caring and so sweet through the whole process.

They did major surgery on our dog and she is doing well 3 weeks afterwards. She had a large tumor removed. I think we are both happy with the outcome

At 10:00 pm my dog decided to eat 3 chocolate cupcakes including the plastic decorations ontop. I called all the 24 hour vets near me and they were 8+hour waits. Bluegrass Vets was an hour drive from my house but they were able to get her right in. Everyone I interacted with on the phone and in person were really great, very professional and caring. I highly recommend for emergency care.

Avoid on Sunday during "curbside" treatment - it takes forever, and getting dog back is like negotiating a hostage release over the phone. I took my dog here for a bladder infection that showed up on a Sunday. Spent 3.5 hours sitting in the parking lot waiting for him to be treated. When we called before driving down, they did not inform us of the "curbside" protocol or the potential long wait times. My dog was taken inside at 10:10am, and I didn't see him until 3.5 hours later. When I finally got him back, he looked in worse shape than when he went in. He looked dazed, like he didn't know where he was. He kept hanging his head and staring. He was panting heavily and lethargic. And he was drinking a lot of water, despite having been given subcutaneous fluids. He didn't have any of those symptoms prior to going in. I believe they left him in a cage or kennel to bark for 3.5 hours while we waited in the parking lot. At least if I had been able to keep my dog with me while waiting for treatment, I could have kept him calm and quiet. They also strung along the treatment - the first call was 1.5 hours after arrival asking for the dog's history. They claimed they called my phone once before, but it never rang. Then we received another call at about 2 hours after arrival where a receptionist who knows nothing about medicine was telling me a proposed treatment plan. I asked her questions about meds, but she had no idea. She described the pain meds as "super strong", but when I was passed back to the vet, he assured me the pain meds would not be "super strong." Then the vet told us it would still be another 1.5 hours before my pet finally received the proposed treatment. I really think my dog would have fared better if I'd just kept him home and taken him to the regular vet on Monday, and I would have saved $500. They also did not inform us that subcutaneous hydration would cause my dog to have liquid-filled, saggy pockets of skin on his chest. Imagine my shock when I found those by myself at home! I will think twice before ever going here on a Sunday again - my dog would have to be in very bad shape before I would ever consider it. The vet on duty was quite defensive and argumentative also. He kept mentioning saving money - as if I was trying to leave my dog sick to save money. In reality I just wanted to get my dog out of this horrible place, and take him back to my regular vet on Monday - which I did!!!

My husband and I brought our 10 year-old cat here for an emergency blockage. They saw him right away. Tests showed that he was suffering from a terminal kidney cancer. We were given the choice to keep him in the hospital for several days with a catheter but told that he would very likely have another blockage once we brought him home. And we also knew that he would decline quickly with the cancer being so advanced. Another option was to bring him home that day knowing he would die within hours. We made the extremely difficult and painful decision to put him down so that he would not suffer anymore. The veterinarian and staff were amazingly patient and sympathetic to the decision we were trying to make. They gave us all of the information and supported whatever our choice would be. I am very grateful for their kindness and care of my cat during such a sad time. Today, we received a card in the mail with personal messages of condolence from several staff members. It really meant a lot to us that they took the time to do this.

Not impressed. Supposed to be an emergency hospital but didn't have x ray and could not help with infected teeth. Gave large pill that there was no way could get it down my dog.

We had to put one of pets down and the people here could not have been more compassionate. They made it as comfortable as possible for both our dog and us. Fabulous staff.

After having my 1st experience of needing emergency care for my dog, I will never recommend this place to anyone. With the emotional mix of coming home to find that my dog was not ok, not being in the financial position for a surprise vet visit, and trying to find answers as to what I should do - the receptionist told me in the nastiest tone that you have to have money for the animals you care for and proceeded to tell me that she works 2 jobs. Mind you, she had just told me the ER is averaged 3x the cost of the regular vet, and that was my concern. This place is gross for the lack of customer service & apparently lack of pay since their employees vent to customers about their lives. I will always always always recommend MedVet for pet emergencies in Lexington. They were INCREDIBLE and earned our business JUST from being nice to us over the phone. Have some empathy instead of acting like you hate your job.

Great service, but be prepared to repeat yourself alot. And even if you have medical experience, they'll still talk to you like a kindergartner. Also had to deal someone calling me about rehoming my cat.

My experience here was absolutely amazing! The doctors and staff are all incredibly kind. They took the time to explain everything that was going on to me and answer all my questions, even when they were busy. I'm from out of town, and they took such good care of my dog, Winry, after a heat stroke event until she was stable enough to transfer to a hospital in my home town. They saved her life. She's home and back to herself now. Thank you Bluegrass Veterinary!!!

Popped in for an emergency visit. Staff did a great job, speed and communication was better then I had expected. My only complaint was with their COVID-19 protocols, I wasn't allowed inside to stay with my sick girl.

Had an Emergency on a Saturday and every place I called said sorry. Bluegrass Vets took us in, did everything they could to help with great care and compassion.

I cannot say enough nice things about everyone at Bluegrass Veterinary Specialists. We brought our dog in on a Saturday night after a rough day with him and everyone was incredible. Although it took a while due to his issue (ear infection) not being as serious as other animals, they spent time checking on him and making sure he was doing alright as he waited. With a very hectic night, they discussed his issues with me in great detail and spent time helping us understand the next steps to take with his primary care veterinarian. They also followed up a couple of days later to see how he was doing - even though he was only an emergency case and not a regular patient. I would highly recommend them.

Just tried to get my dog in because she is having a really hard time breathing. And they tell me that they are in surgery and it would be over 2 hours before they can get her in. And then try to pawn me off on another vet that is 45 mins away. I didnt want to go here anyways because I had a bad incident with my poodle with them a few years ago. But I'm trying to do anything for my baby. Some of these vets could care less. Its getting a bit ridiculous. No wonder peoples animals pass. Because, you can't get them in. Or they charge outrageous prices that you can't afford.

I want to thank Dr. Shea and Bethany for the compassion they showed late in the night. They made saying goodbye to our suddenly ill cat easier. Options were explained clearly with no pressure.

Truly appreciate Dr. Gasparin and staff! They provided very compassionate care and took all my concerns into consideration. This will be the only place we go for emergency visits in the future.

When my dog was diagnosed with lymphoma I was referred to this vet. My first ( and only ) visit was with Dr. R. I felt relieved when I left the office with two prescriptions and promises from Dr. R that he would help advise me along the way. After two weeks of giving my dog the prescribed medication his tumors were growing rather than shrinking. I called the vet’s office on a Monday and was told the doctor would be in at noon and I should expect a call by 4:00 that day. After starring at my phone all day praying for it to ring it was obvious no one cared enough to call me back. The next morning the vet’s assistant did call. I told her my concerns and she said she would review with the doctor and get back to me. No call Tuesday. On Wednesday I called again and the person who answered pulled my dogs chart and said she could see the doctor had read the notes about my concerns. She assured me someone would get back to me. The following day my dog began to throw up so I called again. No way to get to the doctor for advise. I was told the doctor didn’t work on Fridays. By Sunday my dog was breathing so hard I called the office again. If I wanted I could bring my dog in through their emergency room and see if the vet on duty could get Dr. R’s attention. Didn’t sound like a good plan to me. On Monday I felt what was best for my dog who was laboring to breath, not eating and coughing up saliva and bile was to say goodbye to him. This was two weeks ago. To date, Dr. R still has not called to check on my dog and no one from his office has bothered to follow up with me. This was a horrible experience for me. Absolutely heartbreaking. I WOULD NOT recommend anyone to use the services (and I use that term loosely) of the vet office.

Amazing employees here helped us with our 9 wk old puppy that had his tooth stuck in his upper lip, while we were on vacation. Could not be happier with the entire process and if we didn't live almost 7 hours away, this would be the #1 spot for our emergency needs.

A few years ago, I took my dog to Bluegrass Veterinary Specialists + Animal Emergency, and I had a great experience. Yesterday, my parents were visiting from out of town, and their dog had an emergency. Fortunately, I knew where we could go for help; the staff did a fantastic job, again. We wanted to give a special shout-out to Nurse Natasha Sparks, Dr. Nina Waldren, as well as the other amazing staff. Everyone was very friendly and compassionate. We cannot say enough good things about how ethically these professionals conduct their business or the incredible quality of care they deliver!
