We received a devastating call notifying us that our beloved English Bull Terrier, Maggie, was dead just shortly after she was dropped off at this clinic for a routine annual dental on July 14, 2020. I would post as zero star but that is not an option so one star is selected. The Kansas Board Of Veterinary Examiners probable cause committee found Dr. Esau violated the Kansas Statutes and Administrative Regulations in that he failed to meet the minimum standards for either veterinary premises or veterinary practice. Prior to the procedure we specifically requested preanesthetic blood work and an exam in advance and discussed the safety of the procedure. Dr. Esau ensured us that the process would be safe. Later, by phone when I questioned him about the process he admitted that he did not use gas anesthesia and that Maggie was administered Xylazine as a pre anesthetic and then injected with Alfaxan. I asked if there was monitoring of her heart rate, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, oxygen, temperature. He admitted no monitoring system was used. He also admitted that she was not intubated until after she went into distress and that no catheter had been placed for emergency drugs. He said he was sorry Maggie died but he would not stop the way he is doing these procedures because it would cost more to use gas anesthesia and for a monitoring system and he could do more dentals by charging less. On April 21, 2021, Dr. Esau entered into a Stipulation and Consent Order with the Kansas Board Of Veterinary Examiners admitting his actions. This is posted as public information by the board. The Order states in part: “The Board’s Probable Cause Committee has received certain information, investigated, and determined that there are reasonable grounds to believe that Respondent has committed one or more acts described in K.S.A. 47-830 which would justify the imposition of disciplinary action against his Kansas License under the provision of K.S.A. 47-830 and the assessment of an appropriate fine against Respondent under the provision of K.S.A. 47-842.” I would not recommend anyone use this clinic!

Dr. Esau It’s such a kind person and I really trust his knowledge and that he cares truly. Everyone of the staff that I’ve ever met is working to a high standard, they’re always kind and professional and it just means so much to take good care of my pets and to partner with this team! I highly recommend this practice for your fur friends.

This is the best clinic I've been to. The veterinarians Esau and Mah remained in the room with me while examining my cat. They're friendly toward her and build a rapport with her before beginning their examination if her. I like that they explain things and are thorough.

I highly recommend Companion Animal Clinic for the very best in overall pet care, whether it's an exam, shots, diagnostics or surgery. Veterinarians have a VERY difficult job, and deal with heartbreaking situations and difficult humans every day. But you would never know it. I am always amazed at how the doctors and staff take as much time as needed to answer all of our questions and provide us with the most professional care possible. I trust them completely to take the best care of my dogs. They demonstrate how much they care about their patients and their human clients on every visit. I wish all doctors had the level of compassion of Dr. Lavin & Esau.

All of the techs and office staff sharing in our pain leaving there without her made us know we would continue her baby brothers care there. They all love and care for their patients!!

I take my two cats here. It is always easy to get an appointment. The staff is very professional and helpful, both in person and over the phone.

We started going to Companion after a trip to the emergency vet over the summer, as they worked closely with the emergency vet. They are fantastic. We have 2 rescue chihuahuas who are skittish in their own ways and the vet techs and vets are always fantastic with them. They helped us so much, especially in such a scary time. I had to put my cat down, kola was jaundiced and her kidneys were shutting down. I said goodye to kola and my husband and I were in tears. After they put her down they gave us time to be With kola. They are very professional and prices are good.

I have taken my cats to Companion Animal Clinic for many years. They have handled everything from new pet checks, annual shots and carrying the appropriate special food, to diabetes and eventually helping say final goodbyes. Dr. Esau, Dr. Lavin, and all the staff there feel like family and I know they truly care about my pets.

These guys are the best! We were desperately driving door to door at veterinary offices around town in the middle of a pandemic where nobody kept the office hours they claimed while a beloved cat of ours suffered difficulties breathing. Finally we happened soon these guys who not only were open and ready to provide emergency services but friendly and professional as well. Even though we were walking through their door for the very first time looking for what would probably be a one time visit we were greeted as if were family. They even took the time to get to know our cat who has some unique qualities as far as his ability to gain people’s affection with his quirky behavior. Most places just wouldn’t have taken the time make that effort in getting to know a pet and their owners. In fact I’m going to upgrade to five stars which isn’t even a thing for me usually. Four is my max!
