Monticello Animal Hospital Shawnee, Kansas

Although we visited under rather grave circumstances, and they seemed very busy, both ladies were very kind and understanding in assisting with getting my ill chinchilla worked in between their other appts. When my chinny unfortunately passed, they were quick to give an update and took paw prints in a nice (plaster?) heart with his name on it. It was very sweet and they were so gentle and understanding through the whole thing. I wholeheartedly recommend them. My sister said she'd brought her Guinea pigs here in the past and she recommends them as well. Thank you all for your kindness. Maybe some day I can bring pets here under happier circumstances. :)

This vet pushes expensive tests, does not respect the wishes of the pet owner. Guilt trips when extraordinary measures are declined. Our dog was dying but they couldn’t be bothered to get us in to help us put him down. Told us we could wait in the car for a cancellation or wait for an appointment several days later. He was in terrible pain and could not wait. Zero compassion. We will never recommend this place or return for any reason.

I felt like the exotics vet we worked with talked down to us, and I definitely didn’t appreciate that. It’s unprofessional and disrespectful.

I recommend this hospital to anyone with or without exotics. I have a baby bearded dragon, Rico, and he was diagnosed with MBD in April. It has been a month, and Rico is as healthy as can be. No more tremors, and eating very well. He's kinda nuts so he keeps me on my toes LOL. Dr. Wallis and her staff were wonderful to me and I'm so grateful for them. Rico and I will be coming to this vet if we ever need anything again. They updated me, and kept me in the loop of what was going on. I didn't feel like I was in the dark with any details. Thank you so much, you guys ❤

DR Wallis & all the staff is so professional & compassionate. After all these years of going there my present dog gets excited to see & visit with everyone. And that is an accomplishment since she doesn’t like very many people. ????

What a wonderful animal hospital! Dr. Crista is kind, compassionate, and intelligent. She recently performed surgery on a dog whose owners no longer wanted her, saving the dog's life. We adopted the dog from her after she recovered from the surgery, and Dr. Crista sent us home with high-quality food, medications, and everything we'd need for a great start with our new dog. If we lived anywhere near Shawnee, Kansas, Dr. Crista would be our veterinarian!

The receptionist was very nice and helpped me with all my questions.

Wonderful staff and doctor !

After accepting our reservation to board our pet for vacation, they called back three weeks later to cancel and would not provide any explanation. Our pet was an established patient with current vaccinations and no history of behavior problems on her previous visits. Needless to say but we are scrambling to make other arrangements for boarding and will have to find a new vet.

We went in as new patients and Dr. Walters was fantastic. My dog was bitten by my other dog and she was very caring and gentle.

Dr. Wallace is an amazing vet!!! She is so patient and kind.

Very fortunate to have this vet so close to where I live and have them treat exotic pets. They worked with me to get my little gecko in for emergency treatment even though they were completely busy and booked up. Stayed in close contact with me so I wasn't so worried. I have recommended this vet to all of my friends with exotics and will definitely be coming back if any of my other babies need treatment. Thank you so much.

Awful service the last time I went there. I was a returning customer having taken my guinea pigs there a few times to get checked by Dr. Wallis. She was really nice the first few times but this last time her attitude completely changed. I called in a few weeks ago to get an estimate on a neuter for my guinea pig and I also had a few questions about the process. I was told by the assistant that the Doctor was on vacation and only she could answer my questions and to call back when she returns from vacation. I called the following week and finally got Dr. Wallis on the phone. She quoted me $170 for the procedure. Mind you i had already payed $40 for an initial check up that lasted less than 5 minutes so she could make sure the pig was okay for the procedure. Anyway, I scheduled the appointment with her. Surgery day arrives, I take my guinea pig in and the assistant tells me the procedure was going to be $240. I told her that i was initially quoted $170 she went and got Dr. Wallace. The doctor wanted me to pay this price. I asked her to please honor the quote she had given me over the phone but she refused to do it because she didn't quote it herself??? Whats more frustrating is that they had a chart with my pigs information with the price of $170 circled and signed with the doctors name. Despite of this she did not want to honor the price. Eventually after negotiating with her she decided to bring the price down to $200 but it was still too much. It was a bait and switch tactic that they used on me and I didn't feel like this was right. I kept on insisting that she please honor what she had quoted me and she got an attitude and told me that if I was going to make a big deal out of an extra $30 i should just take my guinea pig somewhere else!!! Im sorry Dr. Wallace $30 might not be a big deal to you but it is to me. She continued by saying that patients come in everyday expecting her to do the work for free. I told her that i was paying her a significant amount of money to do this procedure and i would never expect for her to do this for free. Unfortunately I don't get much time off from work and asking for more time off was out of the question. I had to move forward with the procedure and pay $200. Im really dissapointed by the lack of honesty this place establishes and Dr. Wallis's attitude. Please dont consider using this doctor, I've never felt so disrespected in my life specially in a professional setting.
