Brought in my rabbit Goose for a complementary check up provided by Lawrence Humane Society. Goose seemed to be comfortable upon arrival and after a few minutes of debriefing after, he was back to his funny rabbit self. Gentle Care did a wonderful job treating my rabbit kindly, and showered him with compliments at the “debriefing” phone call afterwards. Will be taking my bunny here in the future! Services are reasonably priced, and the vets and staff here are responsive and kind!

There are not a lot of vets that will work with rabbits but these guys do and they do a phenomenal job! Our appointment was scheduled quickly and the staff is fantastically nice!

The whole staff is extremely competent and have gone out of their way to provide exceptional treatment to my pets for over 10 yrs. I had a bull mastiff that was given a better quality of life due to services that aren’t normally available at other vets (acupuncture and EMS). Their customer service is off the charts! They made me feel like family.

I have a new bird and Dr. Ermeling did his exam. She is amazing. She walked me through each step of what I should be feeding, which I needed. She was so very thorough with the exam and I liked the way she talked though things with me. I am a permanent client now.

Love Gentle Care! They have taken care of several of our pets, both dogs and cats. The love they show their patients is genuine and the staff are all very responsive, kind and patient to nervous pet parents.

The staff & doctor were so attentive and kept me informed the whole time about my cat's condition and how his surgery went. Our cat came home and recovered very well. Gentle Care really cares about pets.

May 10, 2021, I lost my Beloved 13-year old cat, Handsome Jack, to the horrible Chronic Kidney Disease. I cannot say enough about the help and care provided by the Gentle Care Animal Hospital’s veterinarians, Dr. Beck and Dr. Ledbetter, the Vet. Techs and the Office Staff throughout this ordeal. As this occurred over several months during this COVID-19 pandemic, the interaction with the personnel was handled over the phone and by the staff coming out to your car to talk to you. Many times this meant the doctors coming out to the car in near 00 degree weather, blowing snow, or pouring rain, and standing there explaining the exam results and answering my questions. Also, when ordering prescription food over the phone and coming to pick it up – again, necessitating the vet techs or office staff coming out in this extreme inclement weather to hand me the cat food and/or medicines. I greatly appreciate the vet techs handling the fluids under the skin that Jack needed all through this. They were gentle, kind, and caring – making it a pleasant experience for him, at least. And I can’t say enough about the patience and research undertaken by Dr. Beck and Dr. Ledbetter to find out if there were any new developments into this kidney disease that could help, and any suggestions on how to help Jack eat more. I appreciated their patience and compassion shown me in talking about Jack’s progression and the changes his body was going through – especially the continual weight loss. I did not want to give up my beloved cat – but when I saw how much he had deteriorated, and how miserable he was, there was no question of what I had to do. Again, Dr. Beck and Dr. Ledbetter and the vet techs were compassionate and supportive in every way they could be. They were there with us till the very end. You cannot ask for a better team to help you than the Doctors, Vet Techs, and the Office Staff at Gentle Care Animal Hospital.

Good people. Understaffed. They are turning away business. I've had positive history with them before but we have converted to Lawrence Animal Hospital 100%.

We have been bringing our pets to Gentle Care since 1997. They are knowledgeable and compassionate and care about our cats and dog as important family members.

made an appointment and the lady on the phone was very scatter brained and said some not so nice words while trying to figure out who i was. i had been there before but they had somehow lost my records so i had to make a whole new profile. 3 words to describe gentle care: - unprofessional - scatter brained - overpriced

I have taken my dogs here for 20 + years. Cannot say enough about the high quality of care my beloved pets have received. All staff members are committed to quality communication and top level care.

Gentle Care is one of the only vets around the Lawrence area that will see my pet rats. They also see my boyfriends dog and do pretty well staying within the budget we have when we come. The most important stuff is always handled first. Our dog is a big boy who seems to like the staff here.

Dr Ermeling is very kind and has always taken excellent care of my cats. However the receptionist is always rude and on multiple occasions has miscommunicated concerns or details to the vet.

We took our dog to have his broken nail trimmed. When we picked him up he had a huge open sore on his nose; he rubbed his nose raw from being put in a kennel. So we swapped one injury for another. Due to Covid, we can only drop our dog off, instead of escorting him inside. Had we known he would be put in a kennel upon drop off, we would have kept him in the car. That was our last visit at this vet. Very disappointing.

Had to put down a beloved 12 year old companion kitty due to heart issues, and they were so helpful, gentle, and comforting during every moment of it. As good of an experience that you ever can have when saying goodbye to a beloved pet will be experienced at this place. Thank you, sweet fellow animal lovers! ????????❤️

My wife and I have 2 hedgehogs. We recently moved to Lawrence and wanted to try the only exotic pet vet in town. We showed up on time for our appointment and since we were new to this vet gave them their records. Including what they ate and how they lived. They took our girls and we waited....and waited....and waited for 5 HOURS! Then the vet finally calls us, asks us all the questions that were on their records, making it clear that she did not read their chart and said she thinks they are healthy. When we got our girls back they were cold, something that can be fatal for hedgehogs. We quickly got them warmed up. When we asked about the wait the vet tech, we never saw the actual vet, said it was always this bad. We will not be back. I say save your money and time and go to the city.

I started going to Gentle Care over 10yrs ago when I had ferrets. When I moved back to town, I continued taking my dog and cats there. They were awesome back then and are still awesome today. Everyone there is very nice and are very easy to work with. Highly recommended! ????

Make sure you know what services you will be receiving and thus, charged for, BEFORE you send your pets in.

I truly appreciate the care given by Gentle Care Animal Hospital to my pet rabbit, Blue. It is difficult to find a vet that will treat small animals, and I feel blessed that Dr. Ermeling was gracious enough to take on my beloved rabbit. She was very informative, kind and yet realistic about expectations for successful treatment. The staff were very responsive, professional and helpful. My daughter also takes her ball python to Gentle Care for veterinary care. We highly recommend this practice.

Dr. Ledbetter and her team are wonderful. I’m so happy that I’ve found this clinic. I’m new to keeping chickens. One of my girls got frostbite during the cold snap at the beginning of 2021. I was relieved to find out we had a local vet who treated them. I’ve had animals my entire adult life, and I’ve seen a lot of vets throughout those years. Some good, some not so good. Dr. Ledbetter is by far the best one I have been to. She and her team understand that my chickens are pets that happen to provide me breakfast, not livestock. They treat them accordingly. They are very thorough with explanations, and break things down so they’re easy for me to understand. Aftercare instructions are written out clearly. I know what I need to do and/or what I need to change. I don’t feel like anybody is talking down to me, or making me feel dumb for being inexperienced. It feels like a team approach to helping my birds. I can tell that my girls were well cared for while they were there. Somebody has had a funny story to tell me about their antics each time. I like to know that they’re getting some human interaction. Vet care is never something that I expect to be cheap, but I feel their prices are reasonable. I can focus on my animals and their recovery instead of worrying about whether or not I can afford to get them help. I can’t recommend Gentle Care enough. I’m probably going to end up switching my four-legged family members over as well. A big thank you to everybody there. You make a difference.

The staff are always nice and friendly. We’ve had a cat that needed a couple of surgeries and both times were wonderful experiences.
