I am originally from the area, and we took our family dog here growing up. While visiting my parents over the Christmas holiday, our 10 month Labrador puppy started to limp to the point of not putting weight on his back left leg a bit after a long walk and some fetch. My first instinct was to call the place where we took our family dog, who passed away in 2015. Let me tell you, a lot has changed since then! They were kind enough to get us in on short notice, which we were very thankful of, but we were not made to feel welcome in the least. Everyone we came into contact with seemed like they'd rather be anywhere else. A vet tech came in to take down some preliminary information on our dog, repeating a few times that "he looks like a great dane," despite us informing her he's just a Labrador; Whatever, not a big deal. A second vet tech comes in, and asks "has he had ACL issues before?" before knowing how old he is, his medical history, etc. Dr. Layman came in and immediately jumped to the ACL diagnosis as well. She felt our dog's leg, commenting on how it was tense, so she couldn't tell, but informed us it's likely an ACL issue, and the only true fix is a surgery that runs anywhere from $4-5000 and includes rehab. The other possible diagnosis we were given was hip dysplasia, which we are aware that labs are prone to. All very serious diagnoses. We had informed Dr. Layman and the tech that he was scheduled to be neutered 12/28, but were shamed for our 10 month old dog not being neutered yet, as she said his not being neutered probably impacted his torn ACL that she was confident of, despite being able to be sure from feeling. Our understanding (as well as our vet in Chicago) is that large breed dogs need more time before being fixed unless they show signs of aggression or other negative signs of being intact. Since coming back home to Chicago, our dog has not limped since being seen at Pfister, and has been examined and xrayed at our usual vet with out a single sign of ACL issues of hip dysplasia, leading our vet to think he might have just landed on his leg oddly, or strained a muscle. Between the cold attitude and feeling that we've inconvenienced this practice by having our dog brought in there, and the clear scare tactic/money grab, we will never be back to Pfister. To see leg pain and jump to the possible worst case scenario seems highly unethical. This place is clearly not what is used to be.

Amazing best place to take animals for medical care. My dogs both had surgery and it went great.

Have used Pfister hospital for years and never had any issue. Good service and care in the past. I have to admit I was very disappointed in my last visit for one of our dogs annual check up. You would think you be informed on all the shots that would be given. I get home and look at invoice and notice they took it upon themselves to give covid vaccine with no information given to us (customer) on why. Since this is the way they practice today most likely will not return

I wanted to thank all those who helped us at Pfister Animal Hospital on Cincinnati Dayton Road in West Chester. Our little dog Lucy had been living with an enlarged heart for a while and was taking medicine. In time the medicine was just not enough and she went into rapid decline. The staff at Pfister's from the guy at the front desk who worked quickly to get us emergency appointments and had real compassion when the final visit was scheduled; the Vet Tech who showed professionalism and care for Lucy and the Doctors who took time to listen and explain what the situation was and at the end helped Lucy and me in the final moments of our time together.

I usually don't like to be critical, but we have had terrible experience after terrible experience here. Hold onto your purse strings tight because they will try to take your money in any way possible. Most of the staff seem uncaring and like they don't want to be there. Our last visit yesterday was the cherry on top, so we left. We went in because our dog wasn't eating after having trouble getting up. They said dogs don't just stop eating because of pain and we'll "need to do blood work, urinalysis and x-ray, ok?" No explanation or anything. I asked how much it would be. $570. I asked if she could run me through her thought process behind doing these things. She acted annoyed and was condescending as she told me "dogs can't talk to say what's wrong, so we have to figure it out." Finally, after asking why we can't do just one of these and see if the results show anything before doing them all at once (money grab), she said we could do that. She did blood work, the most expensive of the three (shocker) and it came back fine. I did not want to get anything else done because I wanted to go to another vet. She recommended an anti-nausea medicine that was 3x the cost of online and I asked if there was an off brand and the vet said "we can do the injection, but it is 10x the cost." Silliness and unprofessional. We went to a new vet today and they said they suspect it's arthritis after a physical exam, backed it up through an x-ray, and prescribed medication. They were transparent about prices, which were WAY cheaper before doing anything with our dog. And they were kind, caring, and professional. I wouldn't recommend anybody to Pfister. They value money and use pets as a means to get to the most money they can get.

Pfister Animal Hospital is fantastic. We have had a great experience there with a variety of issues and pets. I’ve found their techs to be kind and very helpful and the vets some of the best that we have worked with (I’ve had pets for 25 years so have worked with many). Dr. Pfister and Dr. Freson are my favorites though I haven’t had a bad experience with any of the others. We have been through new kitten and puppy visits and end of life visits and all in between. I highly recommend them!

We boarded our 2 dogs last month and were required to get COVID vaccines which we disagreed with from the start. Then we boarded them again last weekend and upon pickup were required to pay for a "booster" COVID vaccine for one dog even though he just received the first vaccine a month ago. They never called to ask for permission to give this booster vaccine and we even made sure upon dropoff to inform the boarding staff that both dogs were up to date with all shots per their last boarding at this facility. Very upsetting.

Staff is friendly. Required my pet to be a patient of the vet clinic. I understand their initial overview of the pet but they required me to get vaccines that are completely absurd. Corona virus for my pet? Decent care, nice facility, but overall a ripoff.

Absolutely Excellent facility. Friendly and very helpful people and when my pup had an emergency, they got her in the same day. She’s on the road to recovery and I couldn’t be happier and more thankful. I’ll be coming here from now on. :)

Outstanding staff, doctors, and care. I won't even consider going to any other veterinary hospital. Today, they met the 7th dog we've had since we were referred to them many years ago.

I’ve used Pfister since 1996 for five dogs over the years for treatments , boarding and euthanasia . The staff is incredibly friendly and compassionate . I don’t have a specific vet that I request and have seen all of them . Each one is amazing as are the vet techs and boarding staff. When it was time to say goodbye to two of my pups last year , we were ushered into a private room which was more like someone’s comfortable living room with lights dimmed and not some sterile exam room. We were given all the time we needed to say goodbye and Dr. Pfister was very kind. A candle was lit on the front desk during this time in remembrance and to let incoming patients know that someone was grieving in the next room which was such a thoughtful gesture. We were given our dog’s footprints on paper as well as a little vial of their hair to take with us. I wouldn’t take my fur babies anywhere else .

We have entrusted Pfister Animal Hospital with our beloved rabbits and other pets for many years. The level of compassion and dedication from both the doctors and staff is above and beyond, and until the day comes that we have no more pets (read: never) we will continue to choose them as our veterinarians.

I have been going to Pfister AH for 15+ years and their staff is absolutely the best. Great bedside manner, and they take the time to talk with you so you get the info you need and your questions get answered. Highly recommend!

Very good veterinarians. The groomer though, really struggles with interpersonal interaction. Pfister should consider a different option there so their excellent veterinary practice is not compromised.

Vets are knowledgeable and the staff was very helpful when I needed an Rx for ongoing care. They are very COVID-19 conscience, and they have a nice facility too.

Totally recommend, I have been client of Pfister animal hospital for many years, always good service good attention of the staff and vets, only one little thing I have to mention, one time I wanted to ask way my dog seemed to have a chewing problem and first I thought it was the food, and instead of speaking with a doctor, one of the technicians tell me that "it was not necessary to speak with a doctor about it, because it was normal that sometimes dogs not like to chew on the hard food but is good for them to chew the food so the teeth can be cleaned with the chewing". And almost a year later we discovered that my dog have some loss teeth and that's why he wasn't eat sometimes and some other he was struggling to eat, so I'm not saying technicians are not capable of their job I'm saying that they need to hear our concerns and to look closely to the symptoms of our furry family members have, other than that they are really good veterinarians, today December 18th 2020 all my questions was answered by doctor Nicole C Steinbeck.
