This is a wonderful organization. I have volunteered several times here and can attest that they treat the many parrots sheltered and bording at the site very well. They also seriously consider whether an adoption is in the best interest of the birds. As others have said, please donate or adopt if you can. It's also quite an experience to volunteer here if you love or want to learn more about parrots of all colors and sizes.

We were there to adopt a cockateil but the adoption papers may have been in my daughters name. We were very disappointed in you service and volunteers. We were able to adopt a cockateil from another adoption center and were very happy with our adoption. Our bird is thriving beautifully .

After having 25 years with cockateils and parakeets we had to make 3 trips and we live far but were willing to go because we wanted to adopt a cockateil. The process was very uncomfortable and employees were rude. We still came home with no bird. My daughter was very upset and we have now asked our friends bird lovers we not to go there. It's a shame how they treat people.

I adopted 2 parekeets from this shelter. The staff could not have been more helpful. I am caretaker for my elderly parents the staff were great with my parents and talked to us about the advantages if each bird. What a delight thay have had watching these birds.I would recomend this rescue to get your next friend.

Couldn't adopt a bird despite my gf having 16 years experience with cockatiels. Adoption committee drag on and was vague on why we couldn't get a bird. The overall adoption process was unpleasant. Volunteering was fun and people there were nice.

Volunteering was great. Adoption has been horrendous. I have a massive cage with two existing cockatiels. I had 16 years experience with cockatiels. I pride myself of being excellent caretaker and advocate for birds. I wanted to adopt another cockatiel and SLOWLY introduced the bird to my other birds. If they get along, I can placed the new bird in my massive 5 feet tall and 3 feet wide cage. However, the adoption committee denied me because “ The adoption committee has not approved your application for Pepper. The majority does not feel that Pepper would do well living with two other cockatiels. Leslie”. I called my vet and even my vet said it was possible to introduce a new bird. The worse is putting the bird in a separate cage. Which I was prepared for. After pouring every detail and resource I have, they still denied me. They still have not given me a reason why I was denied but only they “feel” like the bird wouldn’t do well. There responses were cut and response dragged on for MONTHS. They need a new adoption committee.

Similar to going to a dog shelter before going to a pet store for your puppy, this is a great place to get a bird to accompany your bird at home, or to get a starter bird. These birds are well cared for receiving any supplements or antibiotics necessary for them to thrive. The staff there is dedicated. To help make the shelter sustainable, they charge a rehoming fee which helps pay for vet bills for their existing residents. Joanne was super friendly.

How can you ask for charity and be an adoption center but not be open to the public? Thats part of bird socialization with people.

Great place to adopt a pet ????❤️. The staff is friendly, but keep in mind that the staff is basically made up of volunteers and if you want to adopt a bird, you will need to speak to the manager. You will need an appointment and you may have to call a few times before receiving a call back. Please remember that this is a very busy place. There is a process for bird placement. The shelter is careful about placing the adoptees so people do get rejected for various reasons.

Not a pleasant experience at this location. Emails and calls were hard to get through. Some of the people who help or worked there were very misinformed on specific things about the said bird. I showed my cage the very first day and Leslie even liked the cage only to email back on my fourth visit that it wasn’t qualified. I felt like my time was wasted and the bond with the bird I made was all for nothing. I should’ve been told since day one that my cage wasn’t acceptable, it would’ve saved me time. Buying another cage is not something I was able to do, but i insisted on buying one from this location and was ignored. The cage they had the bird in was as small as mine and the response I got was “it was temporary”. Ya just like mine is, it’s very hypocritical. Already went to another animal rescue shelter and my “denied cage” was actually accepted as a temporary cage, as I save money and need to show proof after a month. I do not recommend this location at all, a complete waste of time.

I brought my brother to this location and was told he had to make an appointment. I had told them my brother was interested in rescuing any type of animal, due to their rules on multiple visits. That’s actually great because it allows the bird to get to know you as they are highly intelligent. We have been there 5 times for a small parrot. Not once have they answered any of our calls just like the first day we called. This location stated they were consistent with answering back through email, and even with email they drag. My brother and I believed it was time for taking the Parrot with us but they kept saying they’d get the manager the next visit, each time. My brother got sick of waiting and did not want to come back because we kept getting pushed back. This honestly is one of the worst rescues shelters we’ve been too.

For the record, the Richie Goodman below his actual name is Omar Ortez, of North kostner in Chicago. Who came in and was trying to get staff to do something where he could claim civil rights violations. Then called deep shelter requesting the owner so he could discuss doing a claim. If you look at his reviews he does this all over the place trying to get businesses to pay so he doesn't sue them. He even goes after the local police department His account has been reported to Google for removal

Adopted my Amazon from GCCBS and have boarded him as well. The staff/volunteers are welcoming, friendly, and truly care about the birds in their rescue. I highly recommend that you call for an appointment because someone will always make themselves available to meet with you.

Great place to buy a bird. Bird rescue and bird boarding. Turned in a cocktail which was found in a park. They are the best to board your bird. I have boarded my bird there for 3 weeks a few years ago and he loved it... Friend boarded parrot he had such a great time his parrot didn't want to go home. They feed them great varieties of fresh fruit, seeds, interact with birds, room with bird workout room...

Altogether I have four birds none from here. There are several problems. The first problem was that we just didn't feel welcome and I think I was there 5 or 6 times. Every time the birds were put away when I was trying to get closer to them. Than when I wanted to know the sex of the bird they gave me three different answers. Ultimately I think it's because they say that they are against breeding. So because I wanted a male cockatoo to pair with my female I was feeling shunned. The birds are very stressed and most are plucking. Not that I am not up for the challenge but for the price they want I could find a better bird from someone else that is rehomeing one. But the thing that turned me off the most is that you can never rehome your pet. You must bring it back to them. I couldn't live with that so I found my cockatoo a mate form somewhere else. Don't get me wrong it is a decent place to go if you agree with all their birdie politics. Just not for me.

The fully volunteer bird shelter takes amazing care of these wonderful parrots that would not have a home after owners' deaths or being unwanted. The birds are well loved and fed and cleaned up after. I adopted my cockatiel from here and he is such an adorable bird.
