We signed up for Banfield's pet wellness plan when our dog was still a 6 month old puppy. Now he's 13 years old and has had perfect health (except maybe one ear infection) his entire life., thanks to the annual physical he gets from Banfield. Most of his annual vaccinations are also covered by the plsn. The vets at the facility we go to are also thoroughly professional and caring.

The staff is generally friendly, but their system seems chaotic and not very efficient. After making an appointment for my dog's exam, I inquired about medication. I was told the doctor would call and discuss it with me. Three days later, after not hearing from them, I called back and found out the meds were waiting for me to pick up. Good thing I called, because obviously no one from the office was going to.

I had a plan that I was told would give my dog priority. My dog got very sick. I was told no appointments for 3 weeks. If I did not go to orher vet she'd gave died. The docs were generally goid but this was not the first time this happened. I no longer have a plan with them

An honest review - Wellness plan I bought my Belgian from a breeder. There was a contract that said I needed to have him seen by a vet within three days of buying him. Everyone else was booked and this location said they would see him. They tried to sell me on the wellness the first time and I said no. When I get there they try to sell me the wellness plan again. The lady on the phone said it was great because you save money (complete lie, an honest clinic would charge around 500-600 for a puppy's first year). I caved in and then I had a wellness plan. The total cost of the wellness plan was about $800+ which you could pay in monthly installments. The clinic that I go to now has a wellness plan that is less than half of what they are charging here. The Doctor here was great. I don't know his name, but I think he went by Dr. B. I ended up getting frustrated with the clinic because of the location, I wouldn't get alerts from them saying when my dog's appointments were, etc. I then finally decided to cancel my plan. I was put on hold for about 40ish minutes and then my call was answered. I explained my situation to the lady and said I don't want this plan anymore. I was halfway done paying the plan and then she told me I needed to pay for rest of the plan. I had no issue paying the plan, but why would I pay the entirety for a plan that I only half used? I was pretty much paying for nothing at that point. So for a total of about 4 visits I ended up paying the entire wellness plan just because I no longer wanted to be a client anymore due to their poor service. Looking back I believe the wellness plan had a flea/tick/heartworm preventative that I paid for in full (when I canceled my plan) and didn't even get it. I will tell everyone to go anywhere, but here.

I cannot believe how long it takes to do anything here.. a simple vaccine shot should not take 5 hours. I dropped my dog off at 8:45 am and was told 2 hours later they would be ready mid afternoon. Whats the point of making an appointment if my dog is going to sit there and not be saw by a vet in 5 whole hours. They gave my dog zero water because when I came in to pick him up and cancel my wellness plan his urine was so dark it was alarming. When I arrived to voice how long I have waited to get a vaccine shot some miracle happened and they administered the shot minutes before letting me take him.. Great customer service but services are a joke. Very unsatisfied with this company in all ways. Stay local its so much more worth it

Dr. Spencer and Stephanie, the vet tech, were Warm & Fuzzy (pun intended) with both Mindy, our senior cat, and me. It was our first visit there and both women had a calming effect on us. Dr. Spencer was very thorough and gentle. Mindy doesn't like to be picked up but didn’t object when taken for her needed thyroid blood draw. Mindy had her head curled under Dr. Spencer’s chin when they returned. Stephanie helped me find the supplement Mindy needed in the PetSmart store where the clinic is located. I SO0o appreciate how kind they were to us - this is the first review I’ve ever posted.

We have been a Benfield client for over 20 years, ( two dogs). They have changed Drs every year. They just saw my 10 year lab 2 months ago for a routine physical and today wouldn't approve a refill on my medication that my pet has been taking for 8 years! Their excuse was "we have not seen your dog for this issue"!!! Really!? She has been taking this med for 8 years! Looks like they were not looking at the right patient chart or or didn't even look, or record only what they feel like recording, or just didn't care. Either way, not good when your pet needs some serious help. I would not trust them with the life of my best friend!

I cant believe you have to drop off your new baby curb side and never meet the doctor and be able to talk face to face with them. Over the phone is not the same . Sorry to say local vet won my business and yes i do get to go in and meet my new vet!

I received a call my dog was ready for his comprehensive. So it was scheduled at 9:30. I had to rush home and get my dog there on time. So due to covid they told me to wait for someone to come out to pick up my dog. Granted I just came out of a 8 hour shift from work to take my dog there and was told to call Banfield at the number to check in. It was busy! Every call was busy. Come to find out they don’t have a front desk. After multiple attempts was able to get a hold of someone. So I literally wait an hour there for someone to take my dog. I get a call from the doctor that my dog is ready. I go in to pick up dog and it takes about 20 minutes for them to check me out 10 min to get the tag, and another 10 min for them to hand me my dog. We were pushed away to the side and they took two more people before even starting to checking us out. Then I was told how much I was charged. Paid. Next day I get called I never paid anything. That i am being charged more than what they told me the previous day when I was there. When I asked why it has occurred this mistake the customer service rep was rude and with an attitude. I refuse to take my pets to people with no respect. If they don’t respect the owners who knows if they respect my pets. They are rude, disorganized and just not good service I will be removing them from there and taking them to another Banfield.

I had an appointment as a new client for my pup to get his vaccinations, set up everything online and even received the confirmation email. When I arrived I called the number posted outside for Banfield customers, was told one team was on lunch and the other team was in surgery. Was told that I would have to wait around and see if we could make my scheduled appointment work or we can reschedule for another day. Apparently the number on file was not accurate (it was I asked him to repeat the number) and they had made multiple attempts to call me ( I work from home and always have my phone on me, no missed calls whatsoever from the last week ????) I was a little hesitant to try out Banfield in the first place but was recommended to by a friend. I should have followed my gut feeling and gone elsewhere, it was just a wait of time coming here.

I can not say enough about this place. I usually use the Gurnee location but they had an opening whenmy cat was sick. We had to end up putting him to sleep and they were so kind and thoughtful throughout thrwhole process. We were there for almost 3 hrs and were just so kind. Now 2 weeks later we recieved a card in the mail with something written by so many staff members. it was even personalized about our cat. I can not Express the amount of gratitude i have for this place. I will definitely be back after all this.

We have two dogs both on the wellness plans which should include being able to be seen at for sicknesses. The past two times my dogs have been sick they have agreed that they should be seen but can’t at this location or any for that matter bc they overbook. What’s the point of the wellness plan!? You can’t use it when you really need it and it’s a ripoff. We used to drive from Kenosha to have our dogs seen here but there’s no point anymore.

My furbaby Hercules receives the BEST care at the Vernon Hills and on occasion the Northbrook location. The vets are very knowledgeable and call when they say they will call you about your pet. The Banefield insurance plan makes emergenghy care during normal hours a breeze. The technicians are super sweet and remember all the regular patients. I will not take Hercules any where else. We love them.

Please, for the love of God, so NOT take your dog to Banfield animal hospital in Vernon Hills (inside the PetSmart). Adam and I have had our sweet 8 week old Goldendoodle, Layla for 3 days. We took her to Banfield for an initial checkup. We brought in a fresh stool sample, and the receptionist took it right away for testing. Dr Spencer brought us back, took her temperature and gave her an exam. Everything was normal, minus her size (Layla was one of the smaller dogs from the litter). Dr Spencer weighed her as 9.24 pounds, which we thought was odd, but didn’t question it. She told us a blood test needed. As soon as the results came back, Dr Spencer came back in and says “we have parvo. We’re not equipped to handle it here, you need to go to an emergency clinic” in a cold voice. When my sister asked what the prognosis was, she basically told us Layla was going to die. I’m bawling at this point. Not a single “I’m sorry”, or any sign of good bedside manner. I requested fluids for Layla and I was told it wasn’t necessary and she was only “5% dehydrated” (still have no idea how the hell she came up with that!) In the report, however, she stated that I denied fluids for Layla. My sister called and requested that to be changed, and she said the vet would call us back after it was changed. Never happened. Here’s what aggravates me the most: We took Layla back to our breeder, who weighed Layla on her scale and the weight said 5.2 pounds! How do you weigh a dog wrong?! When this was brought to the vets attention (we called her), she goes “well 9.24 pounds is what your puppy SHOULD weigh”. Should weigh vs actual weight are 2 completely different things. If Dr Spencer had prescribed medication, it would have been TOXIC to Layla. Even better, when we asked if a full stool sample was ran for parasites, they said it would be done later, then she said “no, the stool sample was been discarded.” Unbelievable. Our breeder and Spring Grove animal hospital put Layla on a treatment plan with the CORRECT weight. Do yourself a favor, and don’t take your precious pooch to see a doctor who I wouldn’t trust with a goldfish!!

Dr. Hundt is great, patient and caring with our not so easy shelter dogs and not too bad to look at while he's checking up on them ????.

My dog was bitten by another dog and the doctor refused to see her... and had a razor burn from her grooming they said “you have to wait 5 days”. Did you know Banfield is owned by mars candy company?

The dog was in pain and could barely walk and they said they were too busy to see him. Even though we have a wellnes plan and they saw him a few days ago and thought it was nothing.

Would give this hospital zero stars if I could. I've taken my pets to this location and another to get my pets checked when there was skmesomet obviously wrong with them. One of my cats who was always getting sick and had low body temperature, they said it was just allergies and nothing to worry about However he got worse so we took him to the the emergency hospital. He was crying in pain and having seizures when he got there. He had to be out to sleep because it turned out to be FIPv and it took over his body so fast there was nothing they could do. This is the second time this hospital has done nothing for our pets and let them die. We haven't gone back to this hospital since. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go to another hospital if you see that there's something wrong your pet even though they tell you they're okay.
