Very clean and a large selection of potential pets. The animals are very well taken care, and the staff does everything they can for them.

Amazing place. Had to wait patiently to be served, however alot of activity and caring with handling of animals with staff. Anyone want a pet, check it out!

Recently adopted a 3 y/o cat from here and have been to the vet 3 times in the past 3 days. The first visit was a basic checkup, but they pulled out globs of black ear wax from his ears. The samples were tested and he was found to have a yeast/cocci infection in both ears. The day after the first vet visit, he vomited and I found a worm in his bile. Had to go back and get him deworming medication. I called the humane society since I figured the cat should have been in relatively good health when I adopted him. The individual I talked to said that on their exam of him ( on 12/21), they found nothing in his ears and did not have the worm medication in so they weren’t able to give it to him. I highly doubt within the few days I’ve had him, his ears got that clogged with wax and infected. Also, I was never informed of him missing that medication. Today, I’ve had to take my cat back to the vet due to him peeing blood. Overall, I’m not happy with the condition my cat was given to me in. It’s unfair on him to start up in a new space and place with new stress AND dealing with these various health concerns. I wish they had been more upfront about the missing medication and I’m really just not buying that they didn’t see all the black wax in his ears.

Soooo many sweet babies (dogs and kittys) here! Staff is very kind and knowledgeable too. The Cat Room is amazing!!! They also have alot of great programs for the public , even you already own a pet, for example spay and neutering clinics and immunization clinics. The website has alot of info, but If you prefer to call, the staff will help you with whatever questions you have.

If I could give minus ten I would, I was being a responsible pet owner in poverty. I took my little male cat to the spay and neuter clinic, and now he won't use his back legs. They said sorry there's nothing the can do to help me. Do not take your fur baby here they aren't Humane at all. I will tell everyone what you did to my baby one!

I've been trying to get my female cat neutered for well over 2 months now with no availability. The employees keep giving me the run around telling me to check back on their website in 2 weeks to see if the they are available to neuter and give shots to my cat which they haven't been able to do. So basically they can't do any of the services they claim they provide.

Called twice a day every day for a week and a half trying to make an appointment to surrender a cat I'm highly allergic to. Left countless messages with name and contact info. Never recieved a call back, when brought cat in by ourselves ready to pay whatever fee to get this animal a good home and they turned us away for not having an appointment. How can we make an appointment if no one answers phones no matter what extension we tried to reach. When told about our numerous calls, the girl in the intake department said that all of their messages have been answered when we never heard back. Her attitude was very dismissive

I adopted thee 2 babies today. I walked in only intending to get 1. The black and white is Edith the orange and white is Trever. They’re so sweet they love cuddles as you can see. They do well with my 2 kids. Especially my 2 year old. I don’t think they’re happy or anything lol

-0 is my review! I took my girl in Saturday morning for a rabies shot and by Sunday night she was gone. I should have listened to my gut when I walked into that building. They were very unprofessional the whole situation was completely uncomfortable. It's been a whole week now and my world is turned upside down..

The nicest man from Animal Control came to our house this afternoon to pick up an old lost dog. Turns out she had a chip and he was able to find the owner for us. Such great service and success story. So grateful to this man. Such a big heart.

The staff in the adoption part of the building are wonderful. However, the checkout ladies in the resell shop are some of the rudest people I have encountered. They were rude when I went months ago and I didn’t return until today hoping for a better outcome. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case. I understand that this is a volunteer position, but if you can’t at least speak in a half way nice manner, I think they need to reevaluate why they are volunteering. I like the shop, some of the stuff is overpriced. The social media person does not give prices on Facebook, which you need to start taking pictures with the price shown if that’s the case. We woke up early to get a scooter and it was only $10 less than brand new in store price and visibly used. Last summer we bought bikes for $100 a piece and the brakes broke in a day. It’s a good concept but there’s a lot that can be approved upon in the shop.

The staff saw me coming and posted a sign on the cage of Captain Hook & Nick that said they were inseparable. I ignored it and went home but after 2 sleepless nights worrying they would be adopted separately, I went back and brought them home on February 6th. Nick hid under the bed for the first week. Captain Hook hissed each time our paths crossed. So I ignored them. Now Captain Hook has to have me within his sight or he cries for me. He doesn't like to cuddle as much as Nick but when he does my neighbor can almost hear his purrs. Nick is a hot mess. . He knocks things like my phone or crocheting out of my hands so he can curl up on my lap. They are the sweetest! For Mother's Day, I began writing a journal of our first 100 days. They call it, Taming of the Shrew. Thank you VHS! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE adopt these wonderful animals from here! I found not one but two soulmates. They say that you are rescuing them but they rescue you too! Your life will be enriched ten fold.

I can’t even begin to explain my gratitude for this place. I adopted a sweet little cat at the end of January. The process was simple, and I got to pick her up about 4 days later when she was spayed. When I finally got her home, she came right out of the kennel and curled up next to me. I allowed healing time before introducing her to the other cat. Once these two met, they became inseparable and bonded immediately. Our home is so happy to have her. Thank you Vanderburgh Humane Society! We love our newest family member.

This place was great and we were able to adopt an awesome dog quickly and affordably. We paid 150 dollars to adopt Kasper, a terrier pit mix and since he is heartworm positive that included a full regiment of heartworm medication as well as the treatment he needs a month down the road and an overnight stay for observation. We were able to acquire a dog bed AND a full size kennel for an additional 50 dollars total. We are very happy with our experience.
