This place has no compassion or sympathy. Take your pet anywhere but here.

South Loop Animal Hospital is the worst. The front desk staff is rude, not cordial, and only interested in pushing people's pets through. Avoid this place - you never get the same vet twice. They constantly hide fees and add totally unnecessary things. THIS IS NOT AN HONEST VET OR BUSINESS.

We called with a new patient cat. Suspect FIP or cat covid. We are recovering from covid. The rep rudely said: "We haven't seen your cat. Can't help you." I realize the challenge we present, but can't there be some basic compassion and manners?

I have taken both of my dogs here and I wouldn’t go anywhere else. They respond to you quickly when there is a health issue with your dog. All the staff are very professional

Took my little Pomeranian there for check up. The services are not cheap so I expected quality. I did not request her nails to be trimmed once I came home realized a couple of them were bleeding. I mean, a service I did not ask for and they hurt my dog on top of it. Ridiculous ! Will not be coming back. Very unprofessional !

It's Mango's first birthday! Too bad for him I had a vet appointment scheduled for today. South Loop Animal Hospital still doesn't allow dog owners to come in due to Covid and I found another vet that does allow owners to come in. Well... they allowed me to come in for the pre talk but then they wouldn't allow me to come in for the part where Mango could use my emotional support, the examination room. Turns out Mango got lucky and we left without that examination! I'm really hating vets right now, they seem to love Covid so they have an excuse not to deal with us dog parents. Interesting thing is although we had never been to that vet Mango got terrified when I opened the door and he smelled whatever they use to disinfect. I had a really hard time getting him through the door, so that tells me how pleasant the past curbside drop offs at South Loop Animal Hospital have been for him and I had no clue. Unless it is an absolute emergency Mango is not ever going to see a vet again without me being present! In terms of South Loop Animal Hospital being vets I think that they know how to do blood work and all tests to check how your dog is doing but they would have saved me and Mango a lot of struggle if they had suggested to feed him raw instead of kibble. They took care of his eye infection and the skin infection he once had too but the 2 weeks of antibiotics came with 2 weeks of diarrhea. The flea and tick medicine they sell didn’t work for Mango’s digestive system either so I stopped giving him that and switched to a collar instead. In other words, I wish South Loop Animal Hospital was a little more holistic.

Called to see if they do inguinal hernia repair and Ricardo answered very rudely. Unprofessional staff and were unable to do that service.

Rescue kitty had first visit at South Loop Animal Hospital. Vet said he was healthy despite some tiny skin lesions. Came back 2 weeks later ($375 total) after lesions were larger and another Vet determined cat has “something”... Prescrip was antibiotic for ears and will monitor on a week. Did blood test. Also had a flea treatment preventative. Total bill was $375. I’m ok with investing in my adorable rescue cat but 2 things: 1) was not told expenses up front (was a $150 or so for blood test) 2) was charged $17 for a plastic collar I have never been charged separately for a collar at any cat I have owned. I am disappointed first visit didn’t pick up on my kitties skin and ear condition. And also think the line-item charge of $17 for her plastic collar was ridiculous.

I took my dog GiGi today for the first time. Even with social distancing procedures, they were very organized, thorough, and timely. The staff is very nice and professional. And Dr Sanchez was very nice, knowledgeable, and thorough in explaining all details. Even though I was not in the office with GiGi, I felt very comfortable!

Even though l had to take my cat there during the pandemic, l understand stuff dosen't run smoothly. This place is the worst vet I've been to in 40yrs of owning pets. They charge you for these ridiculous prices. On top of that they treat the the pet owners like we are idiots. If you love your pet,Do Not GoTo South loop animal clinic, they are a joke.

South Loop animal hospital and the amazing staff has been an incredible resource for me. I have two cats, both of which have had medical emergencies in the past year. In both instances, they were quick to react and gave me the right advice. They also provide excellent follow up care. Dr. Simpson takes the time to explain everything and detail, and gives practical advice. I’ve been to many vets with my cats over the years, and this place is the best. Especially in these extraordinary times we are living in. Thank you so much!

I can’t be more thankful for the staff here, especially Dr. Plourde and Nick. I have two very different cats with very different personalities, and they have done an extraordinary job with both of them. I feel extremely blessed to have found this place. Thank you for all you do!

After my dog was diagnosed with terminal cancer, Dr. Ojala and the staff were extremely kind and helpful in dealing with the news and how to manage a dog with cancer. My family and I are extremely thankful for the staff, Dr. Simpson and Dr. Ojala.

Just got back from our pup's first visit here. We moved to the city from the suburbs recently and have been looking for a good vet and this is 100% that place. The entire front desk staff was friendly and professional and so loving towards our pup and Dr. Simpson was PHENOMENAL with her. I love that she made our Evie feel so comfortable and she was thorough and kind and just everything we could ask for in a vet. We're excited to make this our pup's place of care for as long as we're in the area!

This was my third visit for my cats’ care. I would have given this place two stars instead of three if it wasn’t for the convenient location, Dr Sanchez and his assistant, Jack. They were very professional, cordial and respectful. Now here comes the poor review, why I wanted to rate SLAH two stars: A staff member named, Kate, is extremely unpleasant on the phone as well as in person. She makes no effort to communicate effectively. Her tone towards me is harsh and aggressive. Last evening, I called SLAH in attempt to schedule a drop-in for the next day for my cats’ bloodwork. Kate answered. I explained that I was told by Dr Sanchez to call ahead before stopping in for the cats’ bloodwork. I also further explained that it wasn’t going to be an exam but merely bloodwork since the last time I took my cats there for their rabies shots, the attempt to draw blood was unsuccessful. This was because they were too stressed out; thus Dr Sanchez did not want to press on. But she put me on hold for a good 5+ minutes. Then returned to the phone to say that she had to do some looking into because she could not understand what I wanted. She was very condescending. Non apologetic. Again, no efforts to be kind or patient to understand what I wanted. In her aggressive tone, she asked if I knew I had to give my cats Gabapentin prior the visits. I was thoroughly put off by that at this point. And I yelled back out of frustration. Now a year ago, which was my previous visit, I was told to give them Gabapentin couple hours before the next visit to ease their anxiety. But that was a whole year gap before my recent visit. I didn’t even remember having the Gabapentin, let alone having the ability to draw this reminder from my memory bank. IMO, It would be helpful on the facility’s part to remind the customer prior to each scheduled visit. Perhaps look up the records, then build that reminder into their systematic text reminder. And not expect the customer to keep up, especially when visits could be so sporadic. Proactive vs Reactive. So today, I went in for my cats’ bloodwork. And again, I was confronted by her aggressive tone, insisted on the exact time I gave them Gabapentin. She asked, “Did you give them Gabapentin? What time did you give them Gabapentin?” But it sounded more like “DID YOU GIVE THEM GABAPENTIN! WHAT TIME...!!!” I said repeatedly two to three hours ago. I said I didn’t remember the exact time. Seriously, I was working from home, on calls, focusing on different things. I did not chart my Gabapentin admin activity. And if Kate would be more patient and kind by explaining why she needed to know the exact time, perhaps I’d be more inclined to approximate a time. Once again, I was put off by her and didn’t want to deal with her. I honestly don’t think any paying customers deserve to be treated that way. Just from the last two visits, I’d already spent over $900. I really don’t need to be frustrated by someone who has a chip on their shoulder. Unfortunately, I’d still need to return for my cat’s treatment. I really don’t want further unpleasant experience. I hope they will talk to Kate. Ask her to be more cordial and professional. Or I will have to take my business elsewhere even if that means a less convenient location.

Prices are higher but I guess the location is partly the reason. Service has been consistent and most workers are friendly. I would like to see the monthly shots be administered rather than having them take my pup to the back.

Tried taking my 17 year old cat here for a 1:30pm appointment and got there 15 minutes late because I had trouble finding parking and they refused to see us! Who does that?!? Apparently the heartless Dr. Simpson!!! DR. SIMPSON IS NOT AN ANIMAL LOVER SHE IS A PSYCHO AND SHOULD STOP SAYING SHE IS A VET BECAUSE SHE CLEARLY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT ANIMALS!!! I had prefaced upon making the appointment that my cat was showing signs of distress and probably needing to be put to sleep so I can not believe they turned us away knowing the cat was old dying and suffering. ALSO, THERE WAS NOBODY ELSE IN THE WAITING ROOM AND THEY DIDN'T CLOSE FOR ANOTHER 2 HOURS!!! It wasn't like there was a waiting room full of people and pets when I got there, litterly 2 people checking out. It was already a hard day knowing I was bringing in a pet who was dying and this place just made it worse. They didn't seem to care that on a Saturday afternoon they were forcing me to have to take her to an expensive ER 24 hour animal hospital. Luckily I was able to get the cat seen at a nearby BANFIELD PET HOSPITAL. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. KIM AT BANFIELD in LINCOLN PARK. He and his assistant Panda were kind, compassionate and helped take care of me and my dying cat. I will never go back to South Loop "Animal" Hospital again and I would strongly recommend to not go there if you are thinking about it.

We took our fur baby here because we live in the neighborhood. We also took her to a nearby boarder for conveniences as well. Our dog had an emergency where she was injured under the care of the boarder and this is apparently their choice facility, the south loop hospital. Because of the severity of the injury, we came home early from holiday and picked her up from the South Loop Hospital not wanting her to return to the boarder. We spoke with the south loop hospital and told them we would not be responsible for the $214 inp charges. they agreed and looked to recoup the cost from the boarder. when we called to schedule our next appt 4 months later, with them for our pup to get spayed, they said, they were severing our relationship and sent us an invoice again for 214 when the boarder whom they referred to ownership, by first name, wouldn't return their calls and were unable to recoup the costs. they said "maybe that's why they aren't bringing dogs here anymore". so instead of our dog getting spayed and having an agreement that this was the boarders cost, we lost a good vet and they sent us an invoice. convenient. friendly. yet very money hungry. read the reviews. similar high costs and money hungry issues threaded through the reviews. go here because it is convenient and friendly and does the job not because they put clients and pets first.

Dr. Ojala was able to fit Tuck in last minute when he was sick. She was very understanding and made me feel at ease. I was very happy with my experience there, everyone in the office was very kind and informative. Happy to say Tuck is feeling a lot better! Thank you so much Dr. Ojala and the rest of the staff!

Dr Sanchez is very helpful. Edit: After receiving care here for a greyhound and CH cat for two years I can say that I highly recommend taking your pet here for care.

South Loop Animal Hospital is ok for animal check ups. When my dog was very sick it has been their practice to send us to an emergency facility. This of course will be more expensive for you. My dog was very sick and lethargic on 2 occasions and they wouldn't see him. The Veterinarian wouldn't even speak with us personally to determine anything. Conversation went through receptionist who is not to blame. Bottom line my dog needed help and South loop Animal Hospital wouldn't help him or me. Because they send us to other facilities during times we need them I have to question the ability of the Veterinarian. Sadly South loop Animal Hospital wasn't helpful when we really needed them. The following is advice for others when picking your vet. Pick a veterinarian who will be there for you when your animal is not well. Pick Veterinarian that will speak to you over the phone to determine if its an emergency or not. Pick a Veterinarian that would rather your animal see them than send you to another facility. This leads to building confidence in your Veterinarian ability as a doctor. When your veterinarian passes serious health problems to other facilities this brings into question their ability and knowledge as a Veterinary Physician.

Loved the Doc I saw here (even though I forget his name).. both he and his vet tech/assistant were wonderful. Explained everything to me and was awesome with my cat. Had been to another vet in Chicago and felt rushed from a quick visit and a demeaning vet who had difficulty looking me in the eye. Will be staying with them as my pet's vet, and will for sure recommend them to anyone who asks.
