THE PINK FLAMINGO STRIKES AGAIN!!

Took my kitten there for the first exam the tech Ben said that he put flea medicine on her. Got home she was still scratching to beat the band. I called a Mobile groomer to give her a bath to relieve her itching. He told me there was no product on my kitty so two rounds of flea spray later to get them out of my house. She is now flea free thanks to Capstar that I went to PetSmart to buy. Not a great first impression.

Our dog Jasmine started seeing the vets at Gainesville Animal Hospital West about 10 years ago. She always received great and caring treatment, and all office staff and doctors always communicated promptly with the family. When the time came to make the heartbreaking decision to relieve her from her pain about a month before her 14th birthday, Dr. Floyd spent an hour with us just talking about everything involved, so we could make the right decision for Jasmine. Dr. Floyd and Ben were with us all the way when Jasmine went to sleep. I can't say more about their caring demeanor towards our pets and our family and can wholeheartedly recommend them.

This used to be the best bet in town when Dr. Henley was there. Since he left it has continued getting worse and worse each visit. Everyone is extremely disrespectful of time and it has turned into more of a sales store than a place where I trust to care for my pets. I won’t be returning after taking my pets here for many years.

Good place to take your pet. Decently priced. Caring staff. Communication hasn't always been the best, but they are very helpful and attentive when need be.

KNOW WHAT THE FEES ARE BEFORE YOU AGREE TO ANYTHING. This business is very versed in up-sales in the heat of the moment while your dog is under sedation. We found this vet by purchasing a Fix It All Voucher for $50 per dog. We get a call a few days later and they go over at least 15 mins of up sale options for your animal including micro chipping, IV bag during surgery, blood tests etc. When we get there to drop off the dog there was another 10 minutes of up-sale options for your dog including the cones for $20, pet programs, microchipping and more. Then while the pets were under sedation we got 2 calls from the vet technician with more highly recommended items they needed to do. 1- removing 3 baby teeth from a dog that just turned 5 months old and I told them that and they still pushed to have that done saying it was a discount today (since they were asleep already) for $60 but if it needed to be done late it would be over $400. 2- her ear was red. I told the vet when we got the dog 2 weeks ago she was infested with fleas and she was highly allergic and that’s why it was red and they insisted on doing a culture on the ear for $36 and they wanted to do an ear flush for $160 and then charging us $35 for the medication for her ear. If we waited it would be over $400 they said. All these items will be brought up to you in the heat of the moment while your dog is under sedation medicine and when you are already worried about your pet. So a service that was supposed to cost $50 per pet to have them fixed ended up costing $250 per pet. More than most vets charged not paying $100 total for the FIX THEM ALL PROGRAM. The vet did a fantastic job but please be aware before you purchase the vouchers that if it sounds too good to be true it really is. Obviously we used the FIX THEM ALL program because we didn’t have the money to pay $500 to fix them but wanted to do the right thing by our pet. Please don’t be fooled in thinking this is going to save you any money. It actually costed us more money and a 2 hour drive to and from lake city twice.

I went to GAHW concerned about my cat’s breathing issues, and from the start staff was kind and understanding, even though I was freaking out. During appointments, the doctor (Dr. Mitchell) explained the problem, treatments, and steps going forward clearly for all 3 of my visits in the past three weeks, despite having to come out to my car to tell me. By my third visit, the vet techs remembered my kitty and even her favourite spot to be pet! Cost for medications was mid-range, but the actual visit was at a very low charge for high-quality work. I highly recommend the “vaccines for life” program as well!

Charged me costly tests for a couple of weeks to rule out a wrong potential diagnosis despite my pet's severe and worsening symptoms. After two weeks of useless testing and inefficient medications, had to take my pet to the UF Vet hospital to get the correct tests done for a diagnosis of advanced widespread cancer, while Animal Hospital West could have referred me to UF/an emergency hospital to get correct tests done and relieve my pet's severe symptoms way earlier.

I have never had one negative experience with Gainesville Animal Hospital West. I have two cats, one in particular has had a number of health issues and they are always responsive and have seen her on short notice for emergencies a number of times. I tend to be an anxious pet parent, and every vet and tech I have ever encountered has been kind, empathetic, understanding, and beyond helpful. My other cat is also very easily frightened and they are always patient with him. There have been a number of times when (for a reasonable fee) they have come to my home to do exams on my pets because the stress of travel causes flare ups in regards to certain health issues my cats deal with. I would recommend them to anyone. They often apply coupons to food I purchase from them, and are transparent about any testing and costs. They have saved my cats life and have helped me make sure they are happy and healthy. The free vaccines for life program is awesome, and I love that part of that deal is agreeing to take pets in once a year for a yearly exam. It's fantastic that they provide incentive for pet owners in our community to keep their pets safe and healthy with yearly exams.

My first visit here was post- corona while doing curbside service. I knew it would be a different experience than when normally visiting the vet but I feel like the staff is doing everything possible to make the situation as “normal” and comforting as possible. I really appreciated Dr.Horton physically coming outside to explain how the appointment had gone and what we were going to do next. We’ll be definitely coming back to this animal hospital.

We were on vacation nearby and I left my dog’s medicine at home by accident. This was the only vet that was willing to try to help me in the area, and I called nearly every vet! They worked with my vet at home, fit me into their schedule (on a holiday weekend!) for a very reasonable charge, and got my pet her medicine. I am so grateful to this vet. Thank you and your caring staff who took my call and were willing to listen and try to help!
