This place is a waist of time!! Do not go here, we went twice and filled out an application the second time we visited and waited over a week now with no reply. They have over 50 cats and won't even give you a rejection email. They only want donations and rarely adopt the cats, probably just enough so they receive the grant money to pay their rent and keep taking in the donations. DO NOT WAIST YOUR TIME, DO NOT GO HERE!!!!

Went in to look at a couple specific kittens. They had one of them still, yet was unable to adopt because they said we needed to already have a cat at home OR adopt 2 kittens. I live in a smaller apt with my wife and 9 yr old daughter. We simply wanted to adopt 1 kitten that we liked a lot. Its unfortunate that they make it difficult to help a kitten who needs a good home. We would have been able to give the kitten an amazing life. We appreciate that they care about where the cat is going. But when they have strict adoption guidelines like this it really defeats the purpose of adopting a cat from a shelter. This is the type of experience that forces people to buy from pet smart or breeders and things like that. I suppose this is why they have SO many cats there.

I am beyond impressed with this rescue adoption center- you can truly tell they care about the welfare of the cats, and ensure a perfect fit for their furever home. They trusted us with dear Charley and he is so loved.

Do not recommend attempting adoption or donating to this facility. Please read their reviews. The owner's judgment of possible adopters is discriminatory based on age (if you have chIldren under 6 or are too old beware) and overly personal. This is apparent with their overcrowded facility. I really just feel sorry for these poor cats getting deprived an opportunity to go to a loving home. I saw multiple families turned away the 2 times I went here, one was an older couple and I heard the owner mention they were too old to adopt. The experience in the facility was stressful for both potential adoperts and the cats, again due to over crowding. I received an email letting me know that I wasn't a good fit and could not adopt from them without a given reason, though was warned by the staff that it would be due to having children and wanting a kitten. Good luck if you proceed, after reading another review that they made a grown women cry.. I didn't expect to get approved. Plenty of other shelters and groups to adopt from.

It is impossible to adopt from this place. They told me I wasn’t a match to adopt for absolutely no reason. My house is suitable for a cat to thrive and my interview went really well. Then I get an email with no explanation that I am not a match to adopt there at all. They make no sense and all of their cats have conjuctivitis. If you want to get your hopes up and get denied for no reason, go try to adopt from this place.

My wife is yet another person who was told she wasn't a good match for the cat she was trying to adopt- after the interview went extremely well. No reason given for her being rejected- i would think that would be important if there's a problem with our home ( and there isn't ) that we need to address. We're told that most of these cats have been at this facility for at least 2 years- why am i not surprised. If you're really wanting to adopt, drive by this place and follow google maps to foothills animal shelter.

We've fostered a couple litters with them now and I just adore their attitude towards cats. They hands down love them. I know when I give back my foster babies that they will go to good homes.

I spent an hour falling in love with a kitten, I put in an application and set up a zoom meeting. I waited 4 days for the meeting due to their strict schedule. Come time for the meeting I never received an email for the zoom call and no one would answer my calls to figure out what was going on. Called them over 10 times and no one will answer the phone. Don’t bother using them to adopt a pet. Very unprofessional.

I have a weakness for shelters that support animals, especially cats. I’ve owned cats for 20 years and they’re the best; so I was happy to see this little shelter on my way to get tea. A lot of shelters have been struggling lately after the pandemic so I thought I might donate a small bit of my stimulus check to help out. A few weeks later, I got the sweetest handwritten card from them thanking me for the donation. I’m so happy I was able to help them out a bit. I highly recommend helping out your local shelter if you can by either donations like food and litter or with cash. You’re helping compassionate folks and innocent animals. If I’m ever looking for another cat, I’ll definitely check out this lovely shelter ❤️

This place is a waste of your time. I just lost my cat of 18 years a couple weeks ago, and when applying for an adoption, no returned phone call or email??? I read the reviews and can relate to the other bad reviews. It’s painful to know a cat you want so badly, that would go to an awesome home can not be yours... to know that they can’t help you by returning a simple phone call in a few days is sad, beyond unprofessional. Stay away from this place for your own good. Their staff are obviously not doing the simplest tasks, answering a simple email or phone call. Shame on you guys!!!

My family wanted to adopt a cat and we found 2 kittens at this place we thought were cute and wanted to adopt. Called and called no one answered. Finally talked briefly with someone on Facebook, filled out the application, waited 9 days, never heard anything. Called and called but never heard anything. contacted again via Facebook but never heard anything. If you have kids and actually want to adopt a cat, I WOULD GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. I'm sure they do great work with the cats but have a terrible business model and/or think very highly of their opinion.

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE unless you want your heart broken! My gf and I went here to find our new family member. We were a little overwhelmed with the number of cats in this place at first. They are everywhere and very chaotic. I kneeled down to get to their level and a white cat "Tinker" jumped into my lap right away. Instantly my gf and I felt a connection with this cat. We went to their outdoor/sunning area and the cat was out there as well, and came to us right when she saw us. We knew she had picked us. So we told them we had made a decision and they told us we needed to do an interview. No problem we thought, we knew we could give this cat the best home and it loved us. So the next day our appt time came around, still no email for the zoom call or a phone call saying anything. We tried to call them for 30 min before someone finally answered and told us there was an "emergency" in at the shelter and they would reschedule to later in the day. We then had the zoom meeting and we felt it went great until it got to the end. It was then the lady decided to drop on us that there was apparently another person interviewing for the cat. We were blown away. Why wouldnt they have told us this before the interview started? Or yesterday when we said we wanted the cat? What she said next made our hearts drop that we would ever see Tinker again, she said "You seem great, i'm sure you would do well with any cat!" Not the cat we wanted we could sense in her tone...but we bit back tears and just nodded as she told us she would contact us after the next interview in two days to let us know if we were accepted. Two days go by, still no answer, so we call. We call. We call for over an hour over and over to try to talk to someone, No answer. My gf decided to reply to the email address we got the zoom invite from. 30 min later we got the generic rejection email...No reason why, just a no, you weren't picked for this cat. We were devastated...She did not get to go to her rightful home, if she went anywhere at all based on these other reviews... Why do you do this to people? Why do you let them get their hopes up by finding the perfect cat and bonding, then interview them and deny them after you see people and cat have made a connection? Why not do the interview first? If the people don't meet your apparently impossible standards don't even let them meet the cats? It makes it seem like you enjoy hurting people like this and denying them and the cats a perfect loving home. You say you've found thousands of cats homes but I find it hard to believe based on our experience and the past reviews. You need to change your system, it is extremely broken. For anyone still reading, until they make some changes, I am begging you, please do not go to this place unless you want your heart broken.

Very helpful and focused on what's best for the cats. The adoption fee couldn't have even covered the medication for the kittens we adopted, so they go out of their way to keep them happy and healthy!

Smells quite bad and the volunteer was a bit rude, despite the fact we were bringing donations. I understand they're concerned about covid, however there are nice ways to speak to people about that. They do require masks, which is great! AND, they have so many kitties!!!

It is IMPOSSIBLE to donate online. So incredibly frustrating. You put in all of the information & click donate & then it asks for information you already put in. You click donate again & then it asks for information you already put in & so on & so on. Why do you guys make it impossible to donate online. We want to help but can’t. You NEED TO FIX THIS SO PEOPLE CAN DONATE ONLINE!!!

A week ago I went to go see about getting a kitten and immediately my two kids and I were being judged and discriminated against. Whoever it was working there looked at us like we did not belong there. We understand because of Covid we need to make an appointment. However, the attitude of the employee was as if we were automatically “disqualified” from being “picked.” We responded to the email by filling out the “application” set an appointment for an interview. Two weeks later, still nothing. We owned a cat for 12 years since it’s birth. He passed away from a debilitating heart murmur which broke all of our hearts. All we wanted was to get another, similar to that cool cat. If they keep rejecting people that are willing to give a cat a loving home they will be blocking the blessings for the cat and the owner. For future reference if you want to obtain more donations, more kindness to people will achieve that goal.

We went in with interset of different cats in mind. All different personalities and we were denied adoption with no reason why. We have a home, time, love yet denied. This place is ridiculous.

I adopted a black kitten from here once. They kept her in a separate cage by herself covered with a towel. When we chose to adopt her they said she was in perfect helth with some ear mites that would be gone with one more week of pills that they had her on. The TRUTH was that she was having intestinal issues, she had a really bad skin bacteria that we had to bathe her twice a week for 6 months to get rid of, and the pills they had her on weren’t doing the slightest bit of good for her ear mites. Frankly, I am not sure she would have survived much longer in their care.

Awful, the guy running the place was incredibly uptight, rude. Animals weren't very well cared for. No Bueno.

I've been volunteering with AHA for 2 or 3 years now. This is the 4th rescue and 2nd cat specific rescue, I've been involved with. The staff's driving force is the immediate and longterm health and emotional well being of those creatures entrusted to their care. Other shelters adopt out more quickly, but they also have much higher return rates. I've never seen a shelter so committed to the physical and mental care of each and every cat. These kitties don't just have a home for life if needed, they are family for life, no ifs, ands, or buts, under our roof or any other.

Seems like a great place, But can't get anyone to answer a phone, filled out online form 3 weeks ago and emailed still no answer!!! Seems as if the don't want these cats to get good homes? It's ashame that they can't even answer you with a call or a email...

The Almost Home staff is amazing, and I'm so impressed with the love, care, and attention they show to all of their cats. I was lucky enough to adopt Jasper (formerly Fred) this past week, and the staff was incredibly helpful and communicative throughout the whole adoption process. The adoption process here is fairly rigorous compared to other shelters, but it's only because they truly want every cat to go to the right home. If I ever adopt another cat, I will be sure to come back to Almost Home!

We got the sweetest little kitten siblings from Almost Home (Cedar and Mahogany). They're well socialized, confident, and gentle creatures and clearly had been well taken care of to be so trusting and loving. Almost Home also ensured they were up to date on vaccinations and had them microchipped. The volunteers there also had a lot of helpful tips prior to us taking them to their forever home. Their fees are very reasonable for the care and services they provide.

Not deserving of that star. Had to put one to leave the post. I had a cat for many years that was indoor/outdoor and loved it. For someone to say: “as we do not have kittens that have experience outdoors, or could be trusted to be safe in that situation” is ridiculous. Learning to trust someone or something is giving them the experience an see how they react. Not giving them that chance is denying them of obtaining a full life. They reminded me of the show American Pickers. The hoarder that makes up excuses to not give up what they have. Good luck to anyone that looks to adopt a kitten/cat.
