This was a great groomer at the start. But the past 2 times I've taken my dog, within 24-48 hours he's gotten sick and required vet visits to get better. He doesn't go to dog parks and doesn't eat trash or anything off the ground. The only correlation has been the groomer. Hopefully they can do a better job of sanitizing their grooming stations and tools between dogs to prevent this for other dogs.

They do a wonderful job of trimming and grooming my Golden Retriever. Could not be happier with the way my dog looks after being groomed there - staff is always helpful and efficient.

We go to Black Paw to get our dog food and treats. The staff is always knowledgeable and kind. I scheduled for our mini bernedoodle to be groomed for the first time at Black Paw. It had been a while since she had been groomed, and we understood she had matting. What I was not prepared for was the suggestion that they would have to complete shave her down, this was the ONLY option. I am happy I trusted my intuition and left. We were able to get an appointment with our normal groomer, who had NO problem at all taking her time, going slow, and she did not have to get shaved. We will continue to shop at Black Paw but will not bring our dog for a groom there. After reading a few other reviews, it looks like this may not be the best option for doodles.

We use the self service dog wash infrequently but the staff and the wash itself are always top notch.

One of our dogs, Winston, had been having some anxiety and leash aggression issues to the point where we were thinking he could use professional help. We put him in the 2-week boarding program, and the change we have seen since has been tremendously positive. Bernadette and her team helped Winston to become much more grounded, confident, and well-behaved. And perhaps most importantly, they really helped me by giving me the tools and techniques to succeed as his owner. After working with them, I feel much more confident that we can give Winston a better life without all of the fear and anxiety that he had been carrying with him. I can't thank Bernadette and her team enough for helping Winston and me out. Highly recommended!

We rescued Sammy when she was under six months old. She quickly became my canine-soulmate and our household seemed more complete with her as a part of our family. I thought we had a good handle on her training and although she was rambunctious, we enjoyed her strong spirit…that was until she reached adult maturity. That’s when we realized that her fear and anxiety were taking over, not just her personality, but our household as well. She was an out-of-control handful and I could no longer trust her or take her out without a lot of frustration and worry. That’s when we realized how much we needed help. Bernadette and her amazing staff to the rescue! I’ll admit it – leaving her for three weeks was not easy. I was apprehensive, and an emotional wreck. Bernadette’s text messages and videos helped, but it was still a very long three weeks. I worried things would never be the same – Sammy would change, and our relationship might suffer. Oh, how wrong I was! When we picked Sammy up she had changed but only for the better, and our bond was only going to get stronger from that point. She was responsive, calm, and seemed so much happier in general. But Sammy wasn’t the only one who received the training – we were trained as well. We learned how to help Sammy be her best, how to read her cues and level of anxiety so that we could respond in ways to de-escalate her fears. We learned how to help her relax and how to ultimately control her reactions. It is impossible to deny she is a happier dog and we definitely have a better relationship because of it. Each day we work with her, we see progress. It is now a pleasure to take her on outings and into public places. Thanks to Bernadette and Black Paw for giving our family such a precious gift… the best version our Sammy can be!

We brought our wheaten here and had a positive experience the first two times. He looked great and front desk staff were nice and helpful. We’ve owned Wheatens for 15 years and brush and comb them out ourselves weekly so, the third time, I was surprised when the front desk staff returned to say he was “so matted, the groomer would have to take him down to 1/2 in all over”. I was asked to speak to the groomer. I had just combed him out myself the previous day and knew he wasn’t matted. When asked where, she was only able to identify a spot on his chest that she said would not come out by drying but agreed the rest of him was in good shape. We specifically discussed taking his chest shorter but blending to the rest as I did not want him shaved at all and wouldn’t leave him if the plan was to shave him. She agreed she could do that and all good. When I picked him up, he was shaved to a half inch all over (4x shorter than his standard cut). An $85 shave is hard to swallow in general but it was really disappointing since we had discussed this in advanced and agreed on the plan. It felt like a huge waste of time and money to me as I would have preferred they just say he was heading for a shave. Like I said, our first two experiences were great but this last one was bad enough that we won’t be back. If you have a dog with general groom needs and a standard coat, this is probably a great option. If your breed has an undercoat/hair, you may want to consider elsewhere or have really specific discussion with grooming to make sure you’re on the same page.

Terrible experience, the “professional” groomer Kristine is the worst groomer we have ever met. Strongly recommend not taking your dog here.

Our pup Stanley graduated from the Black Paw training program with Bernadette and her fabulous team 1 1/2 years ago. We adopted him when he was 5 and he is very high energy Springer Spaniel/Lab mix and came to us with some bad leash manners. We sent Stanley to Black Paw for some help for my husband and I an of course our boy Stanley. He is such as love and this was our only large obstacle. Of course, we were anxious to leave Stanley for 2 weeks but after the meet and greet with Bernadette we knew it was the right decision. They sent videos and pictures almost every day with his progress which the improvement was almost immediate! It was honestly amazing to see. Long story short here we are 1 1/2 years later and Stanley is doing amazing. Bernadette is always more than willing to answer questions and help when we need it and will always schedule a follow up as needed. This team wants you and your pup to succeed and go well above and beyond the call of duty. Sending Stanley to Black Paw was the best thing we could have done for our family and I would do it again in a minute.

Willow was trained by BlackPaw at 6mo in their 2-week boarding program. I was blown away, not only after seeing her progress and obedience at our follow-up training but NOW almost 8 months later! She is my #1 adventure buddy– hiking, camping, and running with me like an ANGEL. I can't count the number of compliments I've received on her model behavior, especially when I reveal that she's only a year old.. all the praise goes to BlackPaw.

Great pet food store and groomers. We've been going to Black Paw for many years. They have always been our trusted purveyors of great treats and food. Black Paw's excellent groomers have done great job for us in both grooming and bathing our dogs.

Staff is very helpful and professional. They have numerous toys, speciality food for both dogs and cats, medicine, CBD treats and oils, grooming services, and self service dog wash area. If you need something for your furry friend, BlackPaw is sure to have it.

I cannot say enough good things. We have tried and failed to get our rescue groomed during the past year all very unsuccessfully with other groomers. NOT the case with Black Paw, Amanda did an AMAZING job with our pup and made it a positive experience for her. We will never even consider going anywhere else... Thank you so much Amanda.....

A great local pet place. Grooming, good-quality food, dietary needs, a great selection of toys. Pricier than a PetSmart, but the quality and expertise of staff is better and worth the extra time and money. Pets allowed inside. Disability parking and entrance.

Joe and his crew are always helpful and a delight. They are well versed in what they carry and can point you to the best food, toy or other supplies you need for your dog (They carry cat supplies too.). I have been a customer since they opened and have always had a good experience.

Black Paw Dog training was a fantastic investment for our dog, and our family. We have a very excitable and anxious 5 year old Wheaten Terrier. When we moved, this translated to some incidents with other dogs, leading us to pursue an intensive training for our dog. After a lot of research, we went with this program, and we couldn't be happier with the results. We chose Black Paw, as Benadette truly cares about the animals in her care, and has a wonderful facility in Lafayette where the dogs have space to run, and socialize. This is truly unique for a boarding training program. We were so nervous that our dog would come home a shadow of his silly self, but were so surprised that after the training, he was a more confident, relaxed version of the silly dog we love so much. His behavior around small children, our cat, and other dogs has been remarkable. Our ability to call him to come, for him to stay where we tell him, and even hike off leash is more than we could have ever hoped for from this program. In the words of my husband, "I was skeptical about this, but now every dog we ever have will go to Black Paw." If I could give this program 10 stars I would. Thank you Bernadette and the team at Black Paw for truly making a remarkable difference in our dog, and in our lives!

My dog looked so good and smelled amazing, they just did an outstanding job

We took our fur baby here for the first time. They did a very good job! No nicks anywhere and she is rocking her new look!

My new favorite place to shampoo, condition, dry and groom my dog. The best part: it’s clean when I get there, and I don’t have a ton of hair in my shower when I’m done. My dog loves the free treats afterwards!

We recently brought our 2-year old Shiba Inu for training with Bernadette, and we can not overstate the amazing impact she and the team at Black Paw have had on our dog and family as a result. Since he was a puppy, our dog has struggled with fear, aggression (towards dogs and humans), defensiveness, and just being a bully. We worked with him from a young age with trainers, behaviorists, and puppy classes, but unfortunately his combination of behavioral issues made him a confounding case to figure out, and we were left with very limited and difficult options. Having run out of resources to turn to, we found Bernadette, and through her and Black Paw, we have been able to reclaim our home and confidence in our ability to manage his behavior while simultaneously keeping everyone safe, and still giving our dog a happy life. Bernadette is extremely knowledgable and compassionate, and is an incredible guide through what can be an otherwise really difficult, isolating process.

I will never bring my dog here again, and I will never recommend this place to friends. When I walked in, I was greeted by staff with a look of confusion, even though I was a customer. I asked for my dog to have his nails taken care of, and one staff person said "well, I guess I can take him in the back." I wish now I had followed. They completely butchered his nails, leaving the quick exposed on many nails. The person also clearly did not have experience with dewclaws. I didn't notice until after I paid. My dog was very sensitive about walking the next couple of days. I was excited to give a local, reasonably priced, pet store a chance. Now, I'm just disappointed.

Best place ever to bring your dog to be groomed. I tried out 5-6 different places before finding this place. A bit on the pricey side but worth every single penny.

We bring both of our Pomeranians to Blackpaw & love this place. The dogs both come back looking great & feeling great! The customer service here is also top notch & they are quick with getting the pups in & out. Highly recommend Blackpaw!

Great staff, and wonderful grooming. An array of food for the particularly picky eater.

It is nice to go to a place with knowledgeable and helpful staff who provide good customer service. Although I could go to the big box pet store I choose to come here for the friendly service.

My dog gets his nails trimmed at Black Paw. I am allowed to accompany him and it goes very smoothly. That is my treat! Then he gets his special treat! My dog's black paws thank you!

I haven't used any grooming services but I'm so glad this store is here. They sell a lot of the high-quality cat food brands I'm looking for and will order you more if they run out or don't plan to re-stock for a while. The folks working here have been helpful when my cat is being picky or if I have any questions about their products. I love supporting this local business over Chewy, and the prices are the same if not lower!

We’ve taken our pup to Black Paw for three years now. The staff are all very friendly and they do a great job.

I've been taking my dogs to Blackpaw for many years. The front desk staff is great and they really listen to what I want when it comes to grooming. Great selection of food, toys, and treats too.
