Lance is a reliable and honest professional. He's been helping us look for our lost dog with his drones for the last two days. I would highly recommend him for dog training/rescue. Thanks!!

Can not recommend them for boarding services. Our Shiba Inu stayed here for about 5 days over Thanksgiving. When we picked her up they said they had over doubled their max capacity of 20 by having 50 dogs during Thanksgiving and had to find places to put the dogs. I would not have taken her there if I had known that ahead of time! She was also traumatized from the stay. It has been a week and she is still not back to normal. She could not eat for days after her stay, was constipated and continues to sneeze and snort (she had never done this before her visit to Ruff), so we will be taking her in for possible nose mites. When we picked her up, her entire rear portion and back legs were wet but they had no idea why, (and she had not had a bath because she stunk so badly I had to give her a bath immediately when we got home.) I will never take her here again and would not recommend them to any animal lover. The people seem really nice but please don't put any other animal through this. Being stressed is one thing, being physically ILL is another thing. My dog is now ill and probably has nose mites from boarding there. I will follow up after her vet appt tomorrow. We were told by the owner that they had 50 dogs because she had COVID and had not remembered how many she scheduled. I did not make that up. I scheduled her visit a couple weeks in advanced and a play date was not mentioned or offered. If you want to discuss the situation you are welcome to call me. Obviously I have your number and could call you if I wanted. What I want to do is warn others not to take their pets here for boarding or at least to be aware of the risks.

We lost our 11-year-old 234lbs. English Mastiff Rocky a year ago in August (back in GA.). We moved to Grand Junction in March (2021) and, to be honest, I wasn't sure if I had the emotional stamina to get another pup. Rocky’s passing was a real gut punch. However, my wife felt differently and after a few months, Grace became the newest member of our family. Grace is a 100lb. Cane Corso. She was re-homed to us, believe it or not, from Kentucky. She was 1 1/2 years old when we got her, and we were already her 4th owners (she finally has her forever home). Grace wasn't treated particularly well during the first year of her life and training was, at best, an afterthought. She wasn't socialized and only knew a few basic commands, so we knew we had a challenging training/socializing road ahead of us. Fortunately Ruff Around the Edges came to our rescue. Our kennel/training experience in GA was outstanding so we had a definite idea of what we wanted. Tabitha and Lance (owners) met those expectations and, in every case, exceeded them. Ruff Around the Edges daycare and overnight services are outstanding (well-priced too – we checked local competitors) and they offer a multitude of training programs for dogs of all types, sizes and temperaments. The staff is always friendly, and the entire team demonstrates a high level of passion towards each dog's care and wellbeing. Grace loves going to Ruff Around the Edges, and we love taking her there. If you are looking for a safe and caring place to take your pup you can’t do better than Tabitha and Lance at Ruff Around the Edges.

This place is great for training, dog daycare, and boarding! I did a 5 week training program here for my dog, and it made a huge difference in his behavior. Lance and Tabitha also really care about dogs, Lance even recently helped to find a dog who was lost on the mesa for 5 days. He went up there for a few hours each day, and was up there at 2am with a drone searching the day she was found. Great place, great people!

I first took my pup to Ruff Around the Edges about a year ago when trying to find a doggy daycare that would suit her. Every daycare I tried she’d drag her paws going into, except for Ruff! Every time I drop her off she knows what’s up and happily walks inside. She always comes back well exercised (no small feat for a border collie mix) and they give personalize feedback on how she was, if she made any new dog friends, etc. They have several yards and keep the number of dogs in each of them small and seem to know all the dogs personally. We love being part of the ruff pack!

My dogs survived. Thanks for taking them for the long weekend. Hard to tell what type of activity they received. They weren't noticeably tired from the several night stay as they would be if they were in one of the many pet resorts they have been to across the country. I trust they were taken care of but they don't send photo updates and or check-in's to the owners. It is nice to get something when away from your pups. They seemed a bit under-staffed and frazzled upon drop off and pick up. I was also told they were understaffed by the one employee I interacted with upon drop off and pick up. This heightens my thoughts that they didn't get the time we paid for as advertised. All went seemingly well though as far as I think they were fed, watered and had adequate bathroom breaks. I walked them for 30 minutes when we got home and there were noticably more tired than they would have been after a 30 minute walk before dropping them off here. Not sure I would bring them back mostly because I cannot ensure this is more of a dog daycare than a boarding facility. I am a dog owner whom knows his dogs activity levels and I am not confident they were in an "off leash play multiple hours a day" facility. They were not as "dirty" as they would normally be if they were in a more active environment open play area type facility. This might seem strange but when dogs openly play they mouth and slobber on each other. Roll on the ground, rub on surfaces, you know, dog stuff. Receiving a dirty dog is just part of the experience (unless you order a bath prior to pick up). Maybe my expectations are too high. I chose this place cause they had the most open hours for animal activity in a wide area. I cannot ensure this is what they received. I would be happy to receive a partial refund and see a reply addressing the concern. Again, I think they were fed, watered and taken potty. I could be wrong, but would doubt this is a open play pet boarding facility as advertised (or maybe they were just not staffed when my pets were there). Either way, I can be sure they did not get a full days of activity as advertised. I can say I do know my pets and very well as I've had one for over 4 years and the other over 9 years, boarded both across several states due to living in a few states and loads of travel. High experience level with "pet resorts" and reading my dogs after picking them up. Again, I don't think they were abused or treated poorly, but I don't think they were in open play environment as advertised for the duration that would be expected via the site advertisment.

Oh my goodness. Lance is the best dog trainer I have encountered. And my boy loves to stay there when I am away.

We took our two dogs in to have them trained. We got one lesson and then the owners stopped scheduling our training. We paid for half of the program and we only got one class.

Ruff Around the Edges offers professional and reasonable individual dog training - the best I’ve experienced. We were having behavioral problems with our dog and we got help that has worked. In 6 weeks, we have seen a huge difference in behavior. I learned new skills, our dog learned new skills - together we’re making great progress. I’ve been amazed at their knowledge and skills, and they’re willingness to help! Our home and family life is much improved. We have also used their doggy daycare and their boarding services. I feel confident, the prices are reasonable and we get a happy dog coming home.

They've been great with our dogs, compassionate, flexible, and understand how to handle quirky dogs. I've done both the private training as well as daycare. Wonderful, caring folks. Highly recommend.

Ruff around the edges is an EXCEPTIONAL business, I came in for my consultation feeling defeated about my pups issues with anxiety & not understand how to socialize, or listen. I felt like I was failing her. I walked in to Ruff Around the edges & not only did my life change that day but, my pups life changed that day as well. She started doggy daycare, she came out of her shell, she started making friends, and developed her personality. she’s is now a friendly, loving, playful, protective, obedient, fearless, & all around amazing dog. Ruff around the edges has gone above and beyond for our family. They treat your pups & you as their own family. I highly recommend them & would never leave my dogs with anyone but Tabitha & her team.

Tabitha, her family and employees have been amazing to our pups. Our pups are happy to go to doggy care and happy when we pick them up. They have learned to socialize with other dogs and improved social skills. Tabitha and her team come to greed us at the end of the day and give us a full report on how pups did throughout the day. I give them a five start because they surpassed my expectations. Rough Around The Edges have made our lives a lot easier, because I am confident I can leave my pups with them and I know they are well taken care. I fully recommend them. I love them ❤️❤️❤️

I left our Cooper 5month old Great Pyrenees for 8 days. When she brought him out to us he was excited to see me. But when I put him in the car he didn't want to leave! Anytime I texted them to check on Cooper she replied immediately. This will be the only place we leave him. Thank you so much for taking care of him!

Lance changed my dog's life. I had been to other trainers in town and got no where with my sheperd. Other trainers told me to put my dog in a crate on a time out. Lance showed me how to actually use the crate in a positive manner instead of punishment. Lance showed me how to communicate using the dog's own language to show the dog what I do and do not like. My relationship with my dog is better now. I am am so thankful I used Lance.

Lance and his family have been amazing in helping me with my rescue. She was so terrified of everything because she was not socialized and abused. She is doing wonderful as a result and finally happy. He came to my house several times to assess her without even asking for a dollar. Thank you so much for your kindness and patience. Thank you for spreading a positive message and all you guys do for the pups that have been written off. No act of kindness no matter how small is ever wasted. Thank you for living this message.

I have known Lance for many years. Before Ruff around the Edges he had a uncanny connection with Dogs. We are VERY fortunate in this community to have such a dedicated person who has put together an animal haven. A safe, clean happy place to board your dog with someone who truly cares. His training abilities are second to none. He and his family will go across state lines to rescue a dog at their expense. He has sacrificed and put everything into making this business work. Have you seen the facility he created? Impressive to say the least. I recently read a review with a one star rating from someone who never even used any of Ruff’s services and commented on Lances’ character. He judged him for his intentions of recently helping the community. It made me extremely angry as Lance was brought up by the MOST generous & kind family I’ve ever known. A family that for no financial gain of their own, will drop everything in a time of need. Lance, with more energy than two people is just continuing the Ferguson/Newitt tradition. It goes back generations. A google review of a business in these days and times is so important to it’s success. It is to share your experience with a business. Whatever your dog needs, I would wholeheartedly, without hesitation recommend Ruff around the Edges.
