Beyond grateful for Dr. Canton and the staff here. They took my fur baby in, determined she had a very very deep ulcer in her eye, other surface ulcers, and a bad case of active herpes. If this team hadn’t taken us in as quickly as they did and treated as aggressively as they did, the ulcer may have ruptured. Truly believe she could have lost her eye. It’s been a couple months of aggressive and thorough treatment, along with lots of check ups, and my girl is back to her sassy self. Thank you so much Dr Canton & team!!

First and foremost I will give credit where credit is due and say my dog’s eyes look great. Whenever I started there it was always professional and friendly and my dog and I had been treated with kindness and respect. However, since Covid19 and even the previous fall service there has been on the decline.I started having appointments canceled and when I need a refill I get static because my dog has not been there is 3 months when they were the ones who canceled my appointment. His last appointment we pulled up waited an hour, called to make sure they did not forget us and at that time they let us know there was an emergency. I understand that. I use to work in the field. I also understand at the time the emergency enters someone needs to convey to the waiting clients of the circumstances and not wait an hour until they call you. We came back for our appointment at a later date. I also called and changed an appointment fall of 2020 which never got changed on their end and it was again me trying to call and get a refill when he hadn’t been in for 3 months on an appointment they failed to change. My dog is on two meds. One he’s been on for 7 years, the other about 2.5. It’s a global pandemic. There is a deadly virus and a stay at home order. I don’t like to go into the pharmacy every 10 days when his one script is out(each bottle lasts about 10 days), I like to get several bottles at one time. With respect that this Dr likes to see him every 3 months for a full exam cost, no recheck exam at a lower cost, roughly $200 every 3 months, that is about the max I am able to bring him in, every 3 months. So I call them when they only allowed me to get 2 bottles of his meds (20 days worth) and tell me I need to call back in 20 days to get more....why? I admit with everything that is going on in this world, the thought of having to deal with meds he’s been on for years every 20 days infuriated me. I explained that it was “***explicit*** ridiculous” and vented about my high risk health status, it was a horrible day and this was the icing on the cake. I’m not certain what would happen at the 20 day mark, was I honestly going to get asked to bring him in for a $200 fee every 20 days? Who has that time or money? The lady told me my use of explicit verbiage, not directed at her but the situation mind you, was inappropriate (agreed but it is what it is) and placed me on hold for an obnoxious amount of time, after which I just hung up the phone (probably only about 3-4 minutes but I was angry and it drug on). Now here’s where we differ. Having worked in the field, and the world as it is, I understand tensions are high and folks are flustered. Personally, as someone whose managed people and worked in client services for decades, I would call the upset client, like “hey, what’s going on? Let’s find a common ground” 10:1 odds it’s just that, a bad day and a lack of communication. Instead 3 months has gone by. My husband called there today to make our dog his appointment and the person who answered the phone felt the need to discuss the convo I had 3 months earlier with the lady who answered the phone. I never got a phone call from them to discuss it with me at any point. Just a gossip queen CSR (?) relaying her version of things to my husband 3 months later, which thank god my husband and I are still together, could you imagine if we weren’t? I called them to explain I’ll be canceling my appointment and it went to voicemail, twice while explaining how unprofessional that was on Voicemail I got the “message has been erased” mid sentence , so not sure if someone was listening or what happened. Long story short, their client services are poor and lacking, and not suited to deescalate a situation. I could never imagine not reaching out to an upset client or further more sitting on it for 3 months just waiting to discuss the issues with their spouse! If you have a problem with me, discuss it with me, I probably would have even apologized for using an explicit word when explaining my frustrations. Wildly unprofessional.

Doctor and staff are always friendly and compassionate. Quality is definitely 100% and my senior dog doesn't feel nervous during his exam. I even witnessed how the doctor and staff handled my dog, which was calm and soothing. Thank you Dr. Canton and Staff! ~Lauren and McLuvin

My 1 year old goldendoodle developed fast growing cataracts in both eyes. We were referred to Animal Opthalmology. For such an unfortunate situation, Dr. Canton and his staff did an excellent job. They thoroughly explained their findings and our options. I'm happy to report that after a surgery on each eye, our pet is doing and seeing well.

I am so thankful to have found Dr. Canton and Animal Ophthalmology. I have two Pugs that have been treated here and I always get excellent care. My rescue had such bad eyes he wasn't producing any natural tears and was completely blind. With ongoing treatment he now has normal tear production and has regained some sight! It has been wonderful. My dogs are treated so well, with such calm and compassion.

The best animal eye specialist experience ever and as a Boston Terrier owner for more than two decades, I am quite the expert customer. From the way my call was handled and the treatment in the office - superb! I called asking for a “timely appointment” , asked what was going on, placed on abrief hold while receptionist consulted with the doctor, seen within 4 office hours! Everyone was very friendly, professional, personable, knowledgeable and exceptionally caring!???? FYI - the „timely appointment” at the animal eye specialist in Pleasant Hill was 7 office days, but they also did not care to ask “what was going on “

Dr. Canton and his staff are excellent. Can't say enough good things about them. He really has a lot of love for the animals, you can really tell. This was our second opthamologist and he was able to figure it out and get our bird in good shape!
