I have a beagle I adopted, and had taken him to other vets in Santa cruz, the problemis that there is one emergency vet that you are forced to go to and almost all of the other vets are somehow partners so it's more about the money than the care for your pet, I paid out alot of money to them and had no results I was looking for a vet that cares about animals more than money and found Companion animal hospital, They went right to work on finding the issues that I was concerned with ,and knew the best treatment to solve the problem, the doctors are real the price was fair, and now my beagle is happy and healthy I am very pleased with them, and will continue to take my dog there

I was unable to be with my dog Harley. I have a broken foot and having surgery next day. I made an appointment. Very friendly and helpful person I talked to. My sister and best friend took Harley in for me. They said everyone was very nice. And they made sure my Harley was comfortable. I miss him everyday. Thank you for your help and kindness

The entire staff at Companion Animal Hospital was absolutely amazing! My regular vet could not see our dog for three weeks so I called Companion and they scheduled me for the next day. Becca was friendly and seemed genuinely interested in making the process easy for us. She explained the on boarding protocol and greeted us curbside. Dr. Cupka is knowledgeable, empathetic, and just a wholesome human being. They were on time, explained the prognosis , offered options, and followed up as he said he would. I was provided with an accurate and reasonable estimate. The only surprise was the unexpectedly fantastic service we received. They have gained a life long fan.

My fifteen-year-old indoor cat is overdue for his annual exam. Well, he developed an abscess over the weekend and I didn't know what to do or the cost given I am in between jobs and just finished grad school. Companion Hospital were receptive and caring. They took Brady in asap and communicated with me every step of the way, including the cost of everything and it was affordable! The Doctor and Staff are knowledgable, friendly, and kind. Happy to continue regular services with them again!

For the past 20 years we have brought our dogs and now our cat to the folks at Companion Animal Hospital. They are unfailingly patient with our anxiety-ridden labrador and helpful with questions. Scheduling is prompt, vet care is excellent and their pricing is fair. Even if we moved we would bring our pets for their care.

We recently came to Dr Cupka and Companion when it was time to say goodbye to our 16 year old pup. We felt taken care of and at peace the whole time and the staff was amazing through the super emotional time. They managed to give us space, but also feel like they were wrapping us up in a supportive "hug". No small thing to make your clients feel so close with all the mask and distancing protocols in place. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr Cupka and Companion!

In general I think this is a wonderful hospital. However I brought my new baby parrot in a year ago and had such a traumatic experience my bird is still suffering for it this day. Have a common small parrot? This is a wonderful place to go! But the doctor who worked on my bird traumatized him. He did not know his species, he trimmed his wings and nails too short. He hit a quick so bad my bird needed pain medication. He also recommended coming back for an anesthetic procedure to have his beak ground. I work in the vet industry. If someone brought a new pet to me I would both look up the breed I was handling and since the patient was new, I would have my more advanced technicians help me handle the case. He did not. He actively taught his technician how to trim wings on a patient who had never seen a vet before and was terrified. I have since consulted another vet familiar with his breed who has confirmed my suspicion for his needs and confirmed his nails and wings were trimmed too short. Honestly? I don't even care at this point. All I know is that a year later I'm still fighting to help regain the trust in people with my companion that was abruptly lost after his visit. I work in the industry. This could have been avoided. Every other aspect of this hospital is wonderful. The staff are amazing. But if you have an exotic breed of parrot? For heaven's sake find another doctor.

I recently moved to Santa Cruz and my pup needed a vet. From the first call I felt comfortable with the level of concern and customer service. Once I got there, due to COVID concerns I couldn't go in. I was a little apprehensive about having to stay in the car while my pup went inside without me, and so was he. The staff was so kind and responsive to my concerns and listened patiently while I listed off all the things my pup needs to feel less stressed about a vet visit. During the visit, Dr. Briggs called me to ask questions and discuss symptoms, testing and atreatment plan. Then he called back with more information. The tech came out to the car 3 times, masked and gloved, relaying more information, discussing the bill, and answering the questions I had about their practice since I was establishing a new relationship. In spite of the COVID weirdness, I felt confident my pup was receiving the best care. I watched other patients arrive while I was there and saw the same level of individualized attention and care. So grateful to find a vet I can trust.

I have been a client of Companion for about 16 years, and have had a few of my pets taken care of by the wonderful staff of Companion. Dr, Horne has always been very supportive of all the challenges with aging pets and I have always trusted his advice. Dr. Dellatone has been with my family of pets since the beginning, and she has been there for whatever the needs were for my furbabies. With my most recent visit to Companion I met Dr. Briggs who is the primary vet now. He has such a caring way of making sure I understood what needed to be done for the health of my Baby. And the vet tech, Delilah is such a great person and very informative when a question is presented to her. She has a beautiful way of having me feel very confidant and comfortable with all that is being done. With Covid, it is a bit unnerving to just hand over your pets and wait. The whole staff makes a challenging circumstance much easier. I would definitely recommend Companion to my friends and family.

Dr. Briggs was working on a Sunday when I made the difficult decision to put my soulmate-cat, Pan, down after a brief but intense illness. Even during covid, they allowed me to be in there with him, and the staff was so compassionate and Dr. Briggs was so gentle and calming. When I asked to cut some of Pan's fur for a memory box, the tech went and got clippers and made the most beautiful swatches. I couldn't have had a better experience during such an emotional time. Today I brought my other cat in for vaccines, bloodwork, and to address his incessant meowing since Pan's passing. Dr. Tone answered all my questions, gave me great advice, and even called me again to follow up on my many questions. Their prices are comparable to other vets, and Dr. Tone's thoroughness and the friendliness of the staff makes me so pleased to have found them as my new vet. Thank you!

LOVE Companion Animal Hospital!! Dr Briggs is hands down the best vet I've ever taken any pet to. Animals love him and it's easy to see he loves them to. He'll always take as much time as needed with pets and fully explain the diagnosis to their parents. All the other Drs are amazing too, I just have just seen Dr Briggs more. The support staff and vet techs are super friendly and helpful. My dog, Roxie, loves coming here.

I have been taking my pets to Companion for years, they are simply the best in town!

The vets and staff are friendly and open to discussing treatments, including giving us advice about preventative care for our dogs that we can do at home, to minimize the cost for veterinary care. I also like the spaciousness (and cleanliness) of the waiting room, so that when there are multiple clients at the same time, we have room to keep the pets separated if necessary. And there's plenty of parking space. The more relaxed that we are as owners, the better it is for our pets.

They were very clear in communication about what was going to happen from arrival to paperwork to cost to finishing and bringing my cat lords back home. They were aware and caring about the weirdness and inconveniences that the pandemic has brought about. I didn’t mind waiting in my car during their appointments. It was just a wellness check up for two healthy boys, but gave me confidence about anytime we come back for more care.

Because of COVID, I could not go in with my 15 year old cat. But the warmth, concern and compassion shown by both the tech who came outside to find out whether there was anything in particular they should know about, and the vet (Dr. Briggs) who carefully and patiently explained some of the health issues faced by older cats, made me felt certain he was being well taken care of. I highly recommend these veterinarian services.

We took our rabbit here because she had shallow breathing and was unresponsive. The vet assesed her quickly and helped us determine it was best to euthanize her. The vet and staff let us be with her as long as we needed to say goodbye and handled her gently and with great care when the time came. I am grateful to the doctor and staff here for making a very painful experience tolerable.

I have been bringing my dog Blue to this office since i got him 4 years ago. I have had nothing but the best experiences here! Blue has always been treated with the most compassion and love. The vets listen to my concerns, & always answer my questions. The girls upfront are my absolute favorite and are a big part of why i refer family & friends to this office.. My parents dog passed away and everyone in the office took the time to sign and send out a card. This kind gesture meant the world to my parents! Best vet office in town !

The staff are friendly and very helpful. They are practicing safe distancing and come to your car and take your animal in. Then the doctor will phone you and you can discuss and ask questions about your pet’s visit.

Companion Animal Hospital kindly fit my dog in for a last minute Sunday appointment when their schedule was already completely full. The technicians were so friendly and patient with my anxious little dog. The doctor explained his diagnosis and how to treat the problem very clearly. I feel like I know what to do now, and what future steps we might need to take to treat my dog.

Dr. Della Tone was professional and really helped me and most importantly my dog. They saw me same day and saved a bunch over an emergency visit. Very professional and answered all my questions.

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!! To make a long story short, I am totally devastated and heartbroken that my kitty Brandy of 17 years is passed due to incompetent Vet Dr Della Tone and manager Aimee !!! I have been a client of Dr Horne for over 20 years and have spent upwards of $ 50K on my pets care and medicines during the coarse of the years. His staff claims that he has since "Semi-retired", so I was due for an annual checkup and refills . Dr Della Tone did the checkup and I expressed concerns about a skin condition. She had my cats chart which lists all the conditions she had, which included GI tract problems. She prescribed Clindimycin antibiotic capsules for skin infection which cost $70 for 28 pills, she took 3 pills and that is what set her over the edge, vomiting diarrhea, lethargy and couldn't even walk, eat or drink. I tried to return the pills to Aimee and asked her to credit my account for other meds I was purchasing at the time and she totally refused, after being a client for 20 years and spending over $50k at this business. But she charged me another $22 for probiotics and $42. for Denamarin and $27. for shampoo for skin condition, all of which I never had a chance to use since she had to be put to sleep the next day. I was floored. I told Dr Della Tone about that and she said she would get back with me but no one ever did. So as a result of the violent reaction the antibiotics had on my beloved kitty Brandy, I had to make one of the hardest decisions of my life to end her life due to the damage that was done to her by prescribing the incorrect form of medication. Apparently, from what I found out after the fact, if a cat has gastrointestinal issues, they could have provided her with a iv shot instead of pills that would hurt their GI tract. Total incompetency on the whole staff and vets at Companion Animal Hospital. This place is more concerned about making money than caring for your animals health and well being. Stay away from this place for you pets health and safety. There are many other options in Santa Cruz.
