Lack of transparency with costs. They don't itemize "wellness" package items on the invoice, nor do they transparently discuss or explain what the actual services being rendered are. I am left to wonder, what package did I order? It would be the smallest of courtesy to communicate this to customers. They charged extra for fecal testing given at my dog's appointment, failing to explain that this was not included in the over $400 spent at the initial appointment only to find out nothing is allegedly wrong with my dog, who has been having concerning stomach issues and poor appetite, except that she needs to be on a medication for anxiety, though that wasn't for almost another $150 later. As for the med... They said around $60 and it would just take a couple days to order... which turns into over a week and, surprise, it came out to 30% more than they had said for a 1 month supply. Communication through this whole process was a nightmare. I wouldn't recommend this place unless money is of no concern to you and you're okay with shady billing practices.

These folks are wonderful!! They treat our pets like family, explain everything, give us options. We feel like our pets have top quality care!!

We adopted a cat and brought her in for shots and a checkup. All the dolls were super nice. The vet spent time with us, made helpful suggestions, and answered any questions. I felt they love animals and know what they are doing. I am glad we found them. They are our kitty's vet from now on.

I feel such a connection with the veterinarians. They are so personable and make me feel like a friend. The office manager is also this way. My pets are in good hands.

Dr. Hoefer, Darren, and all of the staff are first-rate veterinary practitioners, who take such wonderful care of both of our cats, and they have done so since each of the cats came to them as kittens. I would recommend the Ark Animal Hospital unreservedly. In addition to the fine, loving, preventive, and compassionate care provided by the vets, technicians, and receptionists/schedulers, Ark offers products to keep the cats identified (microchips and collars with tags), healthy (a variety of food products and nutrition counseling), and flea-free (several choices). I can also have their claws trimmed safely and comfortably (for both the cats and me), as well as have troublesome and difficult-to-reach matts removed from the long-haired cat's fur. Hooray for Ark!

Our dog can be difficult, but the staff at the Ark Animal Hospital are consistently kind and patient, and our dog has had great care in her years as their patient. She's now nine, a little arthritic, but full of sass and vinegar even though so senior. May we all have many more years together.

I started bringing my puppy here almost 14 years ago when we got her. They have always been open, honest and willing to give me lots of advice and time. I have moved all around Santa Cruz in the last 14 years and now live in Ben Lomond. We just got two kittens and I’m still going to go to Ark.

Staff and Doctor are very friendly. They are also very transparent when it comes to what's best for your pet. Unlike other vets I've been to here in Santa Cruz the well-being of your animal is the most important, not the upsell.

Love Ark! Dr. Hoefer is so friendly and so obviously cares about the animals, she always takes plenty of time with you to talk about your questions and concerns. They are very honest and will recommend what's best for your pet. Pricing is reasonable and they offer other useful services (boarding).

Ark Animal Hospital is exactly the kind of place you want to be taking your best friend and animal. They are all genuine animal lovers, take good care of our dog Mara, and welcome us into the fold. It’s like catching up with old friends every time we go in.

Dr Hoefer and staff have taken excellent care of our dog Merric who developed cancer a year ago. With their care and guidance, Merric is happy and healthy today.

Everyone at Ark has been so nice and sweet to my dog, I have definitely found my new veterinary office in Santa Cruz! After explaining my concerns, Dr. Kim explained everything to me and was very upfront about prices and helping me balance benefits of specific treatments vs. cost without making me feel pressured. She also helped me understand the different medication options and pros/cons of each. Thanks Dr. Kim & team for taking care of Diego. He loves it there! :) EDIT: I've been back to Ark several times for Diego and for our new kitten, Maui. Dr. Hoefer is fantastic, the best vet I've ever worked with. She is honest about prices and what the benefits of different treatments, supplements, and medications are. Dr. Hoefer and the rest of the staff really care about our pets and treat them so well. I wouldn't think of going anywhere else!

Service at The Ark couldn't be better.

Dr Hoefer Darren and staff are the best in the business. Privately owned they can think outside the box. As a result they have lovingly and successfully treated many of my feline families when no one else could. I drive from San Jose because I know from experience there is no better vet any where in South Bay or Santa Cruz area. So grateful to be part of that network.

Wonderful caring staff and Dr. Hoefer is our favorite vet ever. We now live 5 hours away and bring any animal we can to see Christina still. They are always thorough and compassionate. We have gone there for everything from my cat and dog check ups, to boarding our dog, and that point when you have to make that hard call and put down your family pet. Over the years, we’ve had many stray and adopted animals and we always know they will be loved here.
