When it comes to Humane Society locations, this one should be rated among the top facilities. They offer a wide variety of services including vertranary care, obedience training for puppy's, vaccinations etc. And the people are super friendly and very knowledgeable.

Santa Barbara Humane far exceeded my expectations. I had just lost my cat of 16 years, Nia Grace, and finally mustered up the courage to adopt a new feline friend. I don’t care what anyone says, but adopting an animal is a big deal, it takes commitment and care, patience, and time. I was quite discouraged with other adoption facilities due to the fast nature of them urging the hastiness of a life-changing decision. I was also discouraged at the lack of humane element when adopting – everything is through websites and pictures and asynchronous communication. What ever happened to the joy in visiting a shelter/facility and “shopping” for your perfect feline friend? Or having time to bond and get a feel for personality? Or even a simple phone call to discuss the animal in question? It was incredibly discouraging that adopting has morphed into the same competitiveness of the housing market. However, upon emailing SB Humane, I immediately received a phone call from the Santa Maria Campus. The staff was happy to discuss the kittens in questions and valued my requests in wanting some additional pictures and videos of the kittens before scheduling a meet and greet. They respectfully honored the first come first serve protocol in holding the kitten until my scheduled meet and greet that day. Upon arriving to the facility, I was escorting into a kitten den and was given time to bond, play, and hold the kittens. I was instantly enamored and so appreciative that I could allow myself to adopt without any pressure from the facility. Needless to say, I adopted 2 kittens instead of 1. The staff including Matt Chan, so graciously answered all my questions, gave me product recommendations for kitten care, and shared some valuable tips in kitten training. I was even able to meet the employee that rescued my kittens, which made the experience so much more rewarding. The facility also has a pet center to purchase necessities, if need be, so you are not leaving “unprepared”. Upon check-out, I was given all necessary documents on both kittens, helpful flyers, suggested Vets in the area, 2 bags of kitten food, all within a nice SB Humane canvas bag – further reassurance that this was one of the best decisions I could have made. This facility was family – I can’t say enough good things. So I leave it at this, if you are looking to adopt – go through SB Humane. The Santa Maria Campus holds a special place in my heart as I sit here and play with my newest family members – Neytiri and Nala. I am forever indebt to everyone that helped me make what seemed like a very difficult and stressed decision, an easy one. Thank you.

I drove all the way to Goleta from Simi Valley twice to have all four of my rabbits fixed. I must say, I would do it all over again. The procedure of making the appointments was super easy, and the staff was helpful and friendly every step of the way. Most of all, the procedures were affordable. My rabbits did well following their surgeries. I couldn’t be happier. Thank you to everyone at the Santa Barbara Humane Society.

I visited the clinic and they were quick to respond, answered my questions clearly, and offered options for the betterment of my dog, which saved me another visit.

Very disapointed with the so called make an appointment issue here, I would love to if they would answer the phones, or check emails, or have any knowledge what so ever how to get these poor cats to good homes. I get the feeling they are lazier than the cats here in this establishment. A millenial brown eyed boyish looking girl was really rude to us today and she needs to go. With her rotten attitude and lack of brains none of these cats will ever get adopted. Soo sad

Some of the staff was helpful, however one women in particular who sits in the back desk was just something else. She almost made it impossible for us to adopt the puppy we wanted. We just moved to the area and were ready to have a companion join our family, especially for emotional support for our 10 year old daughter. She wasn't telling me when he would have his shots, when we could visit him, when he would be neutared, she wasn't any help. I have more to say about her but there's not enough room! I had my husband call the next day as if he was another visitor who also seen the dog, and they had all the answers for him! After jumping through some hoops, we finally adopted our baby boy, then she tried to make us buy a collar that could fit on a pitbull &I told her I wasn't putting that on him, the adoption specialist came out and said that collar was too big for the dog & I told her that lady is saying it's protocol, when he literally fits in my hand, the specialist shook her hand &put the collar back. Our puppy had trouble during his procedure and couldn't get neutared right then so I signed a promisory note stating I'd bring him back, where she chimes in from her desk saying, "if you don't come back, we'll send a sheriff to your house to get the dog." Anyways, it didn't look like her co-workers thought much of her either. Next time treat people better than that& get some manners. Also wanted to say he's the best addition to our family and is attached to us all&is loved by so many! He was worth this unpleasant experience!

Drove from Camarillo to this place with an appointment to see a cat that is 3 years old. I set up another appointment to view him and adopt. Seeing the cat it was friendly, socialized and vocal. The one problem was one of the staff couldn't tell me why they shaved it in two spots. I have 2 other cats that are strictly indoors. They called me back to cancel my appointment and I was not a "good fit" for him to adopt because it was a "runner." Well no kidding!!! I've had cats for the past 20 years and although I had one who was indoor outdoor he'd leave during the day and come back. I'm not a cat whisperer but I know and I'm sure the staff there and Manager aren't either. Do they want to clear the shelter out of cats? Or find someone older who possibly won't be able to care for it eventually or a family with young children? Kids don't want older cats they want kittens. Good luck in finding the "perfect" persons to adopt this cat. I'm very disappointed because I was referred to this place. I will to go to L.A. County shelters and find my 3rd cat just like I found my other two and the one who died of old age. I have NO problems with them. Do not waste your time going there. They are NOT fosters either! Was going to donate too but they don't need it it is Santa Barbara after all that city has money!

Their adoption process is not outlined on their website, they don't pick up the phone and getting information out of an email conversation is like pulling teeth. I know it's probably sacrilegious to ding a humane society for poor customer service but it really sours the process and adds an element of confusion and frustration where there doesn't need to be. We just want a dog. Sigh.
