I've taken my dogs to Dr Ichord for the past 11 years. I've seen his office have a rude vet (Dr Campbell) come & go and I've always had great care & service from Dr Ichord. Recently I have had to leave numerous messages with their answering service (during regular business hours) and my calls aren't returned. I finally get through to someone and I'm able to get my dogs in. Lately I've had the unfortunate experience of dealing with Ashley. She must be new. She makes excuses and I feel like she makes up answers to my inquiries. She gets confused and doesn't give me the answers I need and can't keep dates & appts straight. She says they're so busy taking care of all of the Peterson clients now that they don't have any appts for their old clients. I kept telling her my dog was not feeling well and I needed to get her in right away. I finally had to schedule with another vet office and then lost my little dog the next day. What was once a caring and low priced vet no longer has time to see the clients that have stuck with them. Trying to take on too many new clients instead of taking care of their loyal clients and our beloved pets. I've lost faith in this office. I'll find another vet that has mine and my pets best interest & health in mind. This vet office is now only open M-F 9-6. Not even one vet that can assist your pets later than 6pm or on the weekend. Very disappointing.

Since I started taking my pets here I have had a great experience. The staff are responsive and go above and beyond. When my pets had emergencies they squeeze in same day appointments whenever possible. If they cannot see them, their emergency vet recommendations are very good and cost effective. They've supported my pets through injuries, seizures and a urinary blockage. They've also diagnosed heart problems and done routine dentals. All were done professionally and at a fair cost compared to other local clinics. Vet clinics around the county are very busy and I appreciate everything the staff here do for my pets.

They were able to fit my dog in which was fantastic. Her regular vet could not see here for 3 weeks out. With her not eating for 2 days and chucking up everything she had to go in. Prices are a bit high . Friendly staff. Very knowledgeable. Would go again if needed.

DR Andy is great. But the front office staff acts like we are bothering them. Also when you ask them something they are very short and Kurt with me. Not impressed with the office staff at all.

This is a great vet! I feel they try hard to work with you on what’s best for your pet. I highly recommend them to be your regular vet.

Our buddy was euthanized, but Dr. Purvis really comforted us. I'm very thankful.

We use to enjoy going here. Now they are closed Saturdays and take forever to get an appointment. Dr. Ichord is great, if you are willing to wait weeks to get in. The staff is friendly, wish appointments were easier to come by.

I have never had such horrible customer service anywhere in my whole life! I started taking my dog there last May after getting him from a rescue. The first appointment was very routine and went fine. I provided them with the health information - shots/tests - that I got from the rescue so that they would have a full history of what he has had. The vet reviewed that info with me and recommended he get another rabies shot because she wasn't sure if that one would be considered valid. I listened to her recommendations and went through with her follow up suggestions. About a month later he was due for more shots and I went back. At that point, I found out that they had lost the health information I had provided them. I didn't keep a copy so I was really disappointed that this information wasn't kept in his record. They were apologetic and told me they would make a note in his file in case those records were found later on. There was nothing else I could do at that point so I let it go. Fast forward to this month, I called again to check on the records because I now needed some of that information to take him to day care. The first staff member that I talked to didn't seem to believe me and only offered an appointment for my dog to get the shots again at an additional cost to me. I asked to speak to a manager to ask if there was any way the fees could be waived since they had already admitted to having lost the documentation and this information should have been in his file. The office manager I spoke to was the rudest person I have ever encountered. She kept cutting me off when I was explaining the situation, told me they didn't lose anything and implied that if they did they wouldn't admit it or put it in the notes. Then she yelled at me that she was hanging up on me and demanded that I find a new vet. I called back because I needed to get my dog's records sent to me since obviously I will be going to another vet's office and I finally spoke to someone who was more kind. (I believe her name is Kelly.) She actually confirmed that there was in fact a note in my dog's file about the missing records and, not only that, but she FOUND the records in their misplaced files. At that point I requested a phone call back from the vet because I thought they may want to know about this situation. It has been over 2 weeks and I never received a call back. It's very disappointing that the Vets in the office didn't bother to call me back to discuss or apologize for their staff's behavior.

Woman that answered the phone was disrespectful and lacked human decency let alone kindness. DO NOT BOTHER CALLING. My puppy had a 6” stick pierced through him.

I recently adopted a rescue and after bringing him home, he started scratching/nibbling as part of his grooming repertoire. However he would nibble on his dew claws and irritated one pretty badly. I called San Marcos Veterinary Clinic based on Yelp reviews and their hours. I was going to stick with the fine folks at Petco but I wanted a vet who is available earlier (eg the vet at Petco wasn't available until 10am). My cat's health is a very urgent matter to me! :) Anyway after taking Aki to see Dr. Ichord for a check-up and a look at his dew claws, he thought Aki might be suffering allergies. He asked me a bunch of questions like is he an indoor cat, what do I feed him, where does he sleep, etc. He also checked four times for fleas. Thankfully he has no fleas. Dr. Ichord gave my little "brother" a couple of injections to see if it would help alleviate some of his itching. When I adopted Aki I was told he was micro-chipped but didn't know the number. Dr. Ichord determined Aki wasn't chipped and gave Aki one for a reasonable price. His staff also created his profile with the Micro-chipping firm for me - what a great touch! It's only been a couple of days but Aki's dew claws look better and while he still itches, it's not as bad as before. I would definitely recommend SMVC to anyone!

We are extremely happy with our experience using San Marcos Veterinary clinic for both preventative care and health issues for our two dogs. We have been taking our dogs to the clinic for the past 3 years. Out of all of the vets we've used in the past, San Marcos veterinary clinic has been the best by far and since we found them it is the only veterinary clinic we use. One of our dogs, a little Maltese, has had multiple health issues over the years. Doctor Ichord and Dr. Purvis have given her the best possible care and recommendations with each and every one of her ailments and at a very reasonable price. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. Scheduling has been easy and their communication is great! I HIGHLY recommend them!!

Called to inquire information about vaccines for my new puppy as I’m a new pet owner. The women who answered was extremely rude and unhelpful. She really was not in the interest of helping me. Every time I tried asking her a question she seemed bother by it. If she really hates her job she shouldn’t take out on others. Never again will I even bother calling this place. On top of that she ended the call by telling me that I would have to look elsewhere since they had no availability. Even if they did have availability after speaking with her and dealing with her nasty attitude I would of never consider establishing care for my French puppy.

This small vet clinic is wonderful. I transferred my dog's care here after my old vet moved and jacked up his prices to where I could no longer afford him. I love the small, non-pretentious location here at San Marcos Veterinary Clinic (which holds their costs down for us consumers!) with 3 wonderfully competent and compassionate vets who all went to vet school together. I could care less about any fancy offices...I prefer good staff and vets at reasonable rates. Their rates are reasonable, the staff is lovely, and the vets are fabulous.

We started using San Marcos Veterinary Clinic in 2019 and our dog could not be happier. They provide excellent care and service. Their prices are the most reasonable around San Diego County too.

We love San Marcos Veterinarian clinic because all the doctors there love are dogs and are concerned for are dogs health. They give us a prognosis of what are dogs need to get healthy again and we feel good about what we spent because sometimes its a lot of money. We had to put down are dog and cat in different times. They really do a great job of making you feel as comfortable as possible knowing how we loved are animals. I would recommend San Marcos Veterinarian clinic to anyone.

Not only am I likely to recommend San Marcos Vet Clinic, I already have, to several friends. I can’t say enough about the quality care all my pets receive! It’s such a blessing to not have to worry, and always know my pets are taken care of. Dr. Ichord and his team are always thorough and friendly, every time! 4/29/20: Update I love Dr. Ichord and the staff at San Marcos Vet Clinic. In these difficult times during the Lockdown, the office has made appointments for issues a breeze! An assistant gently picked my pet up from my car. After the exam by Dr. Ichord, he called me to explain the exam and offered solutions. After treatment, my pet was returned to my car and we were good to go! It couldn’t have gone smoother! Thank you San Marcos Vet Clinic!

Great team of vets - would especially recommend Dr Andy Ichord. He always follows up promptly and gives the best guidance on how to care for our pets. Normally, I have great interactions with front desk staff, but just got off the phone with Lisa to make appointment for my dog and she was very curt and impatient. Understandably, things may be tough during current covid pandemic, but would encourage the staff to still treat people kindly as everyone is going through a hard time together. And if we're calling you to bring our pets in, it's because something is wrong with our loved ones, not because we want to annoy you.

It is pointless and cruel to be a patient of a Vet Clinic and be refused emergency service that occurred on a Wednesday afternoon at 3 P.M.

Great place for your pooch, cat or other domesticated friend! All of the staff is pleasant and helpful, the vets are awesome at what they do and the pricing is fair and reasonable. They are willing to write prescriptions and allow you to take them to your pharmacy to fill them if you want to save some significant money (not like those other vets with multiple locations that train their staff to push hard for you to buy from them and lay on the guilt if you don't go with their high priced options!). We have been bringing our dogs here for several years and we never have had a problem or issues with this business. Highly recommended!

Recently moved to the area and was looking for a vet for our 3 dogs. I've been impressed with San Marcos Veterinary Clinic so far. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. Like most businesses they have adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic and created a safe model to interact with them from dropping off your pet to talking with the vet about their visit afterwards. I would highly recommend them and am happy to have found a great place to take care of our kids.
