I had a very rough day this past Friday as we had to part with our Lili (chihuahua - min pin mix) of 21 yrs. Her quality of life was deteriorating. Dr. Stone and his team were professional, patient and caring at this difficult time. We were grateful that both my husband and I were allowed to be present and Dr. Stone gave us some time to be with her afterwards. I appreciated he asked if we'd had been through that before and neither one of us had. Dr. Stone explained the procedure thoroughly prior to administering vaccinations for my little buddy to cross the rainbow bridge. I would not want to go through this again and we don't plan on having another pet for a long while. Yet if I had to, there is no doubt San Jose Animal Hospital would be the place I'd take my pet for any care needed. Per my husband's words, "The whole team and Dr. Stone were amazing during our difficult time."

Really great, they seem quite competent. Also, in contrast to some other pet hospitals these folks don't come up with rip-off tests and procedures. The only downside is scheduling using voicemail and call back, it took us few iterations to be able to schedule

Never got a call back. It’s tough to reach out these people.

They were fantastic, but after losing all of their vets they closed for a bunch of months (that is the order, btw, not lost them during the remodel but "closed for remodel" because everyone quit) and now it is impossible to get an appointment. My vet, Dr. Ross, transferred to ARK, and I'd recommend him if you are looking for someone kind and knowledgeable. I wish they'd told me what was going on rather than this nonsense with the 8 weeks and the call backs and the "sorry now that appointment is taken so it will be 10 weeks"

The best animal hospital around! They list all the prices and give you an estimate before you commit to anything so you know how much it will cost you. They take such good care of our dog and cat!

Took our cat to this vet for 5 years. Recently stopped because it’s so hard to get an appointment. Our cat needed shots and a check up but they are booked out into January. Not sure how they are still so backed up after reopening in June. Also, my friend’s cat had her esophagus punctured during routine teeth cleaning so now I’m too scared to take my fur baby back.

After being a customer for the last 2+ years, San Jose Animal Hospital is no longer able to provide me with timely service. I called them the other week to learn that any kind of appointment is fully booked for the next 2 months, so unfortunately they are not able to assess my dog's kennel cough and prescribe him with antibiotics. I am also unable to schedule vaccines that I need in the next 6 weeks. I need a vet that can make time for existing customers and for pets that fall ill unexpectedly. Unfortunately, this means having to go elsewhere going forward. I also find it very difficult to contact San Jose Animal Hospital over the phone right now. It is not a great customer experience to have to leave a voicemail every time you need something and wait for a follow-up call.

This location used to be a great place, but in 2020 they closed for a "remodel". I don't know what kind of "remodel" they were doing, but it took 8 months. In that time they lost all of their vets and now only have 2 on staff. I was told that with scheduling, that means that only 1 vet works per day. I waited 2 months for an appointment and I missed it (my fault), but now I have to wait another 2 months. This is totally ridiculous. I'm done waiting for these clowns.

This vet is awesome! Great prices and everyone there is incredibly friendly and helpful. Just wish they would hurry up with the remodel cuz my cat needs a check-up and their sister vet office is on the complete other side of san jose. Kitties don't like long car rides!

Olivia the ancient cat says: THANK YOU DR. CHEN! I've been coming here for four years with my two huge dogs and three ornery cats. Here are the best things about San Jose Animal Hospital: 1) They're super responsive. I can always get an appointment when it's an emergency, which is ascertained by sending emails with photos of the problem. When it's not, they schedule me a few days or weeks out, which is good: it means they prioritize pets/ clients who need help most. I know they're always there to help. 2) The staff--ALL the staff, especially the front desk--is lovely, professional, calm and smart, with fantastic senses of humor. They never seem rushed or burnt out. Plus a few of them have AMAZING tattoos. 3) The care my beasties have received has been top-notch. They've all had weird problems as they've gotten older, and this past week in particular Olivia, who's old and my first cat (so she's really special to me), was puking for days. I took her to the emergency room elsewhere (no appointments at SJAH, which was fine), but a few days later she was back at it. Instead of having me come in, Dr. Chen herself CALLED me (amazing!) after I spoke to the front desk, and asked me some questions. She then recommended I try prescription food for Olivia instead of expensive bloodwork etc. It's been a few days, and my girl is keeping all her food down, gaining weight again, and is generally a million times happier, all because Dr. Chen took a minute out of her day to help me take better care of her. 4) It should be obvious by now, but the vets themselves are great. Dr. Chen is kind and GREAT with huge dogs like mine, and Dr. Ross is chill and super-competent. I haven't dealt with anyone else, but I'm sure they're great too. I have to move out of the Bay Area because I've lost my job, but I wanted to make sure to leave a great review before I go. I'll have trouble finding this caliber of care for my beasties anywhere else. If you come here, be extra-kind to these folks, because San Jose Animal Hospital is someplace special!

I can't thank enough the staff at San Jose Animal Hospital for their care and obsession about pets (and their owners too :) ). While its location is not in the trendiest part of Silicon Valley, the facility is sparking clean, welcoming and convenient. Staff is very friendly, well organized and attentive to every detail. Our dog has undergone spaying surgery at the 1/3 cost of what has been quoted in two other places. She said "THANK YOU!" :)

Our dog has been with them since she came to our house one year ago. Today we found the dog has a bad ear infection and called for a doctor’s visit as soon as possible. The earliest Appointment they can provide is two weeks later, at the end of August. This is not the first time that we failed to get immediate medical attention when we need To. I am moving my pets (we have a cat registered in their care) out immediately, today! I do not knew how they manage their business or client basis, but from what I learned, please think twice about using this place.

It is absolutely impossible to get a timely appointment here. They have clearly over-extended their capacity and taken on too many clients. Even before COVID, from the time you called for an appointment, it would be over a week before your pet could be seen. This might be ok for routine/annual examinations/visits but not when your pet is sick or having an issue. We called for an appointment today (August 31) for our pet who is has an eye infection (which they have seen her for before) and were told there were no appointments available until SEPTEMBER 26! What are we supposed to do with our pet until then?! We were told we could call EVERY morning to see if there were any appointment cancellations for that day...because no one has anything better to do than call the vet every single day while your pet is sick. The only reason I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 is because like many reviews say, they are caring and friendly. Just don't count on them to be available when your pet is in need. We will be looking for a new vet.

Dr Doty and Dr Bergstrom are my vets. My dogs have been going here for years. I myself suffer from mental illness and both the vets listed above have a way of easing my anxiousness. The staff is friendly and nice. One of my dogs does usually need to be muzzled, but my last visit he came out with the staff unmuzzled and happy.

We've brought our cat and dog here recently. Every person in the office seems to care about your pet and they always follow up with phone calls. Our vets were Dr. Byrstom and Dr Chen - both were great with the pets and provided a thorough examination and explanation of their conditions.

I initially called San Jose Animal Hospital to obtain pricing for my 88 pound dog that needed TPLO surgery. They had a price that was $6000 less than my normal vet quoted me ( I actually cried while at my normal vet because of the price and wondering how in the world I was going to keep our beloved dog with our family). I found SJAH pricing to be the least expensive and after meeting with Dr. Doty, I had comfort around proceeding with them. The experience was amazing. The surgery was a large endeavor for our pup and our family. This is a very long recovery period and I felt that I had the support I needed from this team. I ended up sticking with this vet and moving my other animals to them. Fast forward to last October. We have a large feral cat population in my neighborhood that I've been working to TNR for quite some time and one had recently been losing a lot of weight. I brought her in and explained the situation. They checked her out and noticed what a sweet girl she was. They went above and beyond by contacting 13th St about her and helped obtain financial assistance for her care. I've been fostering her for over 6 months now and she'd always hide under the beds, in the closets or in the bathrooms. She is actually starting to feel comfortable and act like a cat. It makes my heart smile and I am so incredibly thankful to everyone that helped in this journey. Without them, this little girl surely would have passed slowly and painfully and because of all they'veve done, she is getting a second chance. I am so thankful for ALL that they've done and for caring about our animals, and keeping their prices in a range that allows us to care for our pets. Sent from AT&T Yahoo Mail on Android

Overall the staff is always friendly and patient. I feel that I have recieved good care for my pets here and I trust the vets. However, sometimes I am left on hold and I have to call back. I've had other minor incidents with the front desk staff making mistakes, I try to be understanding when I see they are training but it has happened multiples times which is irritating. I will keep coming because I do trust their vets who always explain everything and provide good care for my pets.
