Would usually go to the Berkeley location but this one had a sooner appointment. I absolutely regret going here. They tried to charge me for services I decline. They were terrible with communication. My cat is very sick and I haven't received the bloodwork they were supposed to call me about 12 days ago. Im calling multiple times a day and they tell me they’ll leave a note for the vet. **Emailed them as their response stated here. No one reached out, no follow through. The vet finally got back to me days later. She was confrontational and said no one had told her I was trying to get the bloodwork from her.**

The doctor was very kind and understanding to my situation and hardships ensuing she would do everything possible to treat my pups ear infection while keeping my costs minimal.... a true life saver since the loss of my home when I caught covid last year. I will be definitely making this my primary puppy care

I always have a really good experience at Banfield - staff is friendly and the vets are really nice. I’ve never had an issue with communication and my fur child seems to enjoy his experience.

Dr. O'Callaghan is a responsive and caring vet. She always goes out of her way to make sure your pet is taken care of even when she has 100 other patients that day. We have a huge sense of comfort knowing she is looking out for our pup. Highly recommend.

The doctor here did not prescribe the correct taper down dosage of prednisone for my dog and when my dog stopped the prednisone, she stopped responding completely after 24 hours. I left multiple messages with the doctor that day and the days following and I have yet to receive a response (not even to see if my dog was okay). I was able to get ahold of prior her veterinarian and she told me to get her back on prednisone right away or get her to a hospital as she had onset Addison’s disease from the doctor not tapering my dog of the prednisone properly. I then took my dog to the SPCA emergency room and when I explained her medication and dosage of pred there, the doctor told me that was incredibly dangerous. Both the emergency room vet and my prop vet said they would never prescribe those dosages and it could have caused serious damage or death to my dog who has underlying conditions. I WOULD never recommend taking your pet here. I had held off on writing a review hoping the office would call at least to see if my dog was okay and since it’s been a few weeks and they never called or responded and no action was taken for what they did to my dog, I thought others should be warned.

I ABSOLUTELY ADORE DR. O'CALLAGHAN AND HER TEAM! I've been to several Banfield locations across California and Texas, as well as other vets, and my experience with Dr. O'Callaghan has been beyond compare! She is excellent across all domains - bedside manner, offering alternative treatment options, being thoughtful about budget, answering all of my many questions with scientific rigor and integrity, and most importantly being a top notch vet to my dogs. I have 2 dogs, one of whom had her 2nd TPLO knee surgery w/ Dr. O'Callaghan. The first TPLO went really well and was done by the same surgeon (different Banfield location), and yet the 2nd surgery with Dr. O'Callaghan went noticeably better - My dog came out of her surgery dramatically less stressed and her post-op medication mixture seemed to work better for her, which to me said everything I needed to know about the elevated level of care Dr. O'Callaghan and her team provides. When I asked what magic she pulled to make my dog so calm this time around, she said that (other than the perfected medication protocol) she and the team had wrapped my dog up in a swaddle of soft blankets and set her on a warming pad while they monitored her vitals after surgery to make her extra cozy. Dr. O'Callaghan also proactively suggested a health plan that would save me a few hundred dollars this year. It's that kind of attention to detail, despite them being the busiest vet office I've ever been to, that sets them apart. My dogs hate vet visits, but they love the vet techs at this location! The dogs are now friends with some of the staff and will go to them for pets and comfort when they're feeling anxious. <3 It's definitely a busier vet office, but I've never had issues scheduling an appointment. I appreciate that they are open on weekends and offer drop off. Having the Banfield network has been really fantastic, especially if you aren't always staying in one place. If you're based in San Francisco and looking for a vet, I recommend Dr. O'Callaghan and the whole team at the Lombard Street Banfield!

The staff, and the doctor. Even during COVID there has been minimal issues. They have been wonderful for me and my dog.

Everyone’s pet is their family, and Dr. O’Callaghan treats them as just that. She is so caring and personable, while being a realist and truthful (and also funny). I visited a few vets before we found her and I am so thankful we waited! We’ve had nothing but an amazing experience with Banfield on Lombard, and it is because of Dr. O’Callaghan. Everyone is in a good mood around her too. The wellness plan is absolutely worth it for the first year of having a puppy. Thank you for keeping our pup Luna healthy!

Completely disorganized, unprofessional, argued amongst themselves, different directions from different workers

I had to take my tiny 4-pound poodle in for extensive oral surgery. It had gotten pretty bad and was fairly serious. I had hoped be back home and have this surgery with my vet (in NYC) but due to a family emergency, I was sort of "stuck" in SF. I booked the surgery with Banfield having never been there before. They were super helpful, communicative and informative. The price was less than half what I was going to be charged in NY. The staff was so patient about everything. I have to give a huge thank you to Dr. O'Callaghan, who took the extra steps to reassure me. I was a complete mess with worry about my pet (plus the added stress of being in a city that isn't mine and taking care of my very ill mother) so this special care was even more appreciated! I would definitely recommend them!

DO NOT GO HERE! We’ve been going to Banfield for nearly three years. This past week, we took our senior dog to see Dr Malkin and we are still shocked by the incredibly poor level of service. Our dog is almost 13 and he came in with an eye infection. We also asked for a full geriatric work up because he has been slowing and lethargic and we’ve noticed he’s been irritable. Bottom line: we dropped him off for over 5 hours, they supposedly ran some tests, they accidentally double vaccinated him without our permission, when we picked him up and were told a vet would call us to discuss his health and NO ONE EVER CALLED!!!! 3 days later, I called to ask for the bloodwork as our dog continued to decline. They said they couldn’t find them but they’d have a vet call. 3 more days... still no call. I even called back and they said someone would call, but then no call. Finally on Sunday morning 7 days after his visit, he started coughing/gagging, and we had to take him to an emergency clinic. They quickly diagnosed him with a collapsed trachea and bacterial pneumonia. I called Banfield again... asking them to send us the bloodwork ASAP so the ER wouldn’t need to retest. After three calls, Dr Malkin called us back several hours later only to leave a voicemail in which she addressed our dog by my husband’s name and talked about his eye lash but not the urgent matter at hand. I will NEVER go back there!!!! Horrible care. They don’t care about your pet. She didn’t even know our dog’s name... blood tests we had to call 5 time to receive. I wouldn’t even go here if it were an emergency let alone a primary care.

As a Banfield Wellness Plan Client for over 6 years, I have never experienced a clinc as unprofessional, rude and unreliable as this Clinic. I have 12 animals on Wellness Plans and this is the experience that made me question whether or not I want to keep my Wellness Plans. Long story short, the VetChat line recommended I get one of my animals seen as soon as possible. When I called around, this Clinic, rather than providing options or reasonable solutions, was rude and dismissive of my issue. While I understand that Banfield does operate as an Appointment Clinic, I asked about same day appointments or drop offs, I've never had a CSC argue with me saying that "Banfield has never done same-day appointments". When I stated that I have gotten same-day appointments in the past, the CSC stated that "the other Banfields have been doing it wrong then". The lack of compassion, understanding and courtesy most definitely does not reflect the values that Banfield holds for their staff and representatives. This experience is a no-go for me. I'd rather go somewhere else where I would receive adequate care and understanding.
