Previous experiences and a prior review of mine was not favorite. In the last two years, they have hired all new Vets and the new doctors are exceptionally better in practice and relaying info to the pet owners.

Extremely dedicated doctors and quality care. My one caution is that they are very busy and it can be hard to get into an appointment. Wait times out in your car can be very long.

I started bringing my cat to this animal hospital during the pandemic and I have been very impressed. Two of the vets have examined her and are very thorough. After each exam, they call me to report their findings. They have seem genuinely interested in her health needs and I feel I can trust them.

The team at San Diego Bay Animal Hospital has been a close and trusted partner as I've loved and care for senior dogs. They have seen me to through love and loss and have been full of nothing but compassion and understanding. I've never felt anything be welcome and appreciated and my loved ones have had wonderful care.

Doctor made me feel comfortable. Only place that made time for my pet. My dog is a senior and has a few pre existing conditions and staff treated him with care and was very knowledgeable.

Professional and compassionate staff and doctors. I've taken multiple generations of my pets here for routine and emergency services. They have saved the lives of my pets on multiple occasions. Also they have wonderful end of life services which i have recently had to let go of my companion Roxy. They assess your pet and and won't just put them to sleep without cause. Thank you san diego bay for making this difficult situation as painless as possible.

I am disgusted with this hospital. My cat was brought in there and they never properly diagnosed her. 3 female Dr's and not 1 could figure it out. $ 8,000 later I bring my cat home and she is alive for 3 days given 4 different medications. My beloved friend had to be put to rest at another hospital. This was a couple weeks ago. She COULDNT be d it in for her last visit they didn't have any openings. Just now I get a couple calls saying I can now bring my Carvin. Don't GI here they lie to you.

Poor service, difficult to get in and when I arrived I was advised I would have to wait 1 hour to get in even though I arrived at my appointment on time.

I had my first experience with this clinic while In moment of crisis, and they were amazing. They were invested in taking care of my K9, but also kept me updated, calm, and were honest about the costs up-front helping me make decisions to keep within my budget. When I picked up my pup they had gone above and beyond to completey clean her of the blood she was soaked in from her emergency which again shows they not only cared about my dog, but about me too. I will be moving both of my work dog care over to this little clinic because they go above and beyond.

Very disappointing experience. I brought in my elderly dog for an oral exam. I liked the doctor I spoke with over the phone (curbside due to Covid) but since his visit it was been a nightmare with follow-up. I called the day after my appointment to ask for clarification on the pictures that were sent to me after his visit (that did not show the area of concern he was sedated to have looked at) and was told the doctor would get back to me in a few days. A week later, I sent an email asking the same question. Still no response. A week after that (now 2 weeks since the visit), I called again and was told the doctor who saw my dog was no longer working there and the staff was unable to answer my question and said they couldn’t contact the doctor. I was told the medical director would call in 1-2 days to speak with me. After 2 days, I called and was told they would return my call by the end of the day (which didn’t happen either). I called the following day and was still unable to speak with an actual doctor and instead was told by staff that they spoke with the original doctor and could provide me with the needed information. Unfortunately, they still did not answer my question and would like to sedate my old dog again to figure out the cause of the issue even though that is why he was sedated the first time at their clinic. I asked for his records to be sent to me and, surprise, they didn’t do that either. I called again a week later and finally got his *incomplete* records. I’m still unsure if they even examined the correct area on my dog. They provided pictures of the wrong spot of his mouth and cannot answer whether or not they actually looked at the area of concern that he was brought in for. Would not recommend. Pros: Staff was friendly and able to get me in quickly. Cons: Difficult to get a response. Did not return calls/emails. I have worked in the veterinary field for years and would never ignore a client like they have ignored me. I’m bummed because it seemed like a good clinic initially and I tried to be very patient and understanding with the staff but they seem to not care about their patients.

was able to get our fur baby in as an urgent visit last minute and they were able to identify and treat her for glaucoma and even squeezed us in for follow up next day to ensure the eye was getting better. highly recommended.

The team at San Diego Bay Animal Hospital is outstanding. They always take amazing care of our little ones. We lost one pup to heart disease and they could not have been better during the process. Everyone was so loving and empathetic. They truly make you feel as though they love your pets like you do. They have secured our business for the foreseeable future. Keep up the outstanding work guys!

Because of Covid we sit in the car while the pet is being examined, but the Vet calls and gives very good detail on what she checked on my pup and the call helped me feel great about choosing this place to bring my pup whenever he needs veterinary services. I would recommend to friends.

This USED to be a great Vet. See my review below. NOW however, it's gone way down hill. Can't even get them on the phone, let alone an email! I know COVID has not been good to businesses, but maybe a call after a few months saying "hey we are so slammed right now" but nothing! Nothing! I don't know how they remain in business. Friends are saying the same thing - Avoid this place and find somewhere else that will actually call you back to make an appointment for your pupster. We love this vet. Friendly people all around from the front desk to the vet. They'll tell you how much it's going to cost before they do anything and actually will tell you if there's a cheaper RX online rather than getting it from them. It's a longer drive from where we live but it's worth it!

I just want to thank Dr Traversi and his team for their care of my Luna. I was nervous about leaving my pup there for a surgical procedure. Dr Traversi took the time to speak to me, and his professionalism, expertise and kindness put me at ease. The team took great care of her and she is recuperating at home now. I am very happy with the care that has been given to both my dogs. Thank you San Diego Bay Animal Hospital. With a grateful heart, Mary Matheson

I have been taking my pets 3 cats to see Dr. Van Maele for years. Her compassion and care are top notch. Unfortunately, she is no longer owner of this business. I must have called within the last year 3-4 times for an appointment with true emergencies, Possible cat blockage, cat vomiting, and have been turned away and never seen. I tried one last time to schedule an appointment "on line" and never received a call, a notification, nothing. I do understand during this pandemic things are stressful. But when you've been a very loyal and appreciative client for years and get sent away. Not acceptable. If Dr. Van Maele ever starts practicing again, which I hope she does, I will follow her again to hopefully a new facility.

My 10 yr old Rex, who was healthy & happy, suddenly just started limping & then not bearing weight on one of his hind legs. I called our regular place, they were full & could not see him & suggested calling other vets. I called four more who said no, all full. San Diego Bay Medical Hospital said they did not have any appointments, but I could drop him off for an "emergency visit"- finally, a yes! The techs were friendly, informative, let me know what to expect & were very sweet with Rex. Dr. Leuking called to give me results of his imaging & treatment needs. She was thorough, pleasant, explained everything & took time to answer all of my questions. We came up with a plan & Dr. Leuking went above & beyond to get Rex the treatment he needed... and will need ASAP. I am looking forward to working with the team at San Diego Bay Animal Hospital in the future... with all of my canine crew. Thank you SDBAH, so grateful!!!

The docs here literally treat you like family, I have been a loyal patient for 5 years now, and owe my very sick and difficult dogs life and hAppiness to Dr. van Maele and Dr. Traversi. They truly treat your concerns and nerves as if they were their own and use top of the line medical practice to solve every problem. They are honest and refer you to speciality clinics when the illness is out of their scope of practice. This office is very thorough and the staff takes the time to get to know you while still loving on the your animal. I drive 45 minutes for all of my dogs health concerns because I couldn’t trust anyone other than SD Bay Animal Hospital.

The medication doses measured by the techs here cannot be trusted. My cat was prescribed a pain killer at a dose of 0.3mL twice a day. The liquid was pre-filled into syringes by the technicians, but after I got home, I noticed all of the syringes only have 0.2mL volumes. They charged me $60 for this. Aside from paying for more medication than I received, this kind of mistake is a danger to any pet. I contacted the office about this, and instead of just remaking the drug suspension, or refunding the amount I was overcharged, they had the tech who prepped the syringes call me to insist they contain 0.3mL. I even sent them the image attached to this review showing the incorrect doses (clearly visible at the 0.2mL line). The tech left air in the syringes. But his ego is too fragile to admit any mistake despite the photographic evidence. What is truly disgusting about this is they probably make medication errors with many pets in their care. But this guy's self-righteousness prevents them from correcting the problem. How many pets have died at this hospital from receiving the wrong medication dosage? I filed a complaint with the California Veterinary Medical Board. If you love your pet, find a vet clinic capable of correctly dosing their medications. Also note that the drug they tampered with is a controlled substance. The vet tech is probably shorting animals of their pain meds to support his own addiction. UPDATE in response to Owner: They never admitted any mistake, nor did they "investigate my visit”. I had to file a chargeback with my bank to get refunded for the incorrect medication.

I was referred by various friends to San Diego Bay Animal Hospital but it seems like their service has gone down significantly since Covid. I’ve had the worst experience with this place since day one. Unfortunately, I purchased the puppy package and have no choice but to continue bringing my pup back. Aside from being unresponsive and unreliable when my pup has an emergency, they also overcharge for services not requested and forget to add shots that my puppy was already given to invoices. They tried to charge me full price each time I took my pup back for his 5 in 1 shot then had to remind them I already purchased the puppy package which includes all the vaccinations. I expressed to their technician (2 different ones on 2 occasions) how disappointed I was with my overall experience here and the last one I spoke with, Erica, told me they would have management reach out to me. But of course, no surprise, no attempt reaching out from their end. My puppy got an eye infection (swollen and green discharge) this weekend and they were too booked to see him so they asked me to email photos in so the vet could look and hopefully prescribe him something. Had to call back to confirm the photos were received since I’ve never received an email response from them EVER and they confirmed they received it and would show the vet when they have a minute. Never heard a word back even after calling back to follow up several times throughout the morning and afternoon. DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE!!!! ******UPDATE***** business owner responds to negative reviews faster than multiple voicemails and emails to the business directly. So no I will not be calling you directly as I’ve been promised a call back for the past 4 days (not the first time this type of situation has happened)

Very thorough. My poor shi tzu mix has had sinus problems for years. Dr Traversi took time to go through all her records and discuss what he thought might help. He took time to respond to my questions and concerns, offered his opinions but never pressured me to do anything. The whole staff was kind and diligent. They worked hard to get me in quickly.

I can not say enough for San Diego Bay Animal Hospital and Dr Traversi. I found a mass in my Golden Retriever’s mouth and from the first phone call early Monday morning, everyone was kind, didn’t mind my tears and multiple calls/emails and got Tank seen and the mass taken out immediately. Dr. Traversi also has a great bedside manner- kind, empathetic, but straightforward and honest which I appreciate. Love them!!!

Horrible service. They overcharge for tests ($500)and we had to wait an hour to pick up our pet after they said she was ready to be picked up. They kept placing us on hold and then stopped answering the phone all together. They were so flippant and did not care that we waited. I asked for a quote on medicine they told us we might need and they never sent that. We had a urine test done and they said it would be ready in 24 hours. 96 hours later they have not called or emailed the results. I get the feeling they don’t care at all! They just charge expensive prices and move you out the door. They don’t follow up or return calls. They got 500 dollars from us for nothing, incomplete tests with no results. Please contact me since you won’t answer your phone without placing me on an hour long hold. Brendon Light
