Our dogs love staying here! Emily and Bella have been so great. We use them for literally every vacation we take. Even long trips for weeks at a time. They have been our go to exclusively for several years. We also look forward to the frequent photo updates.

Emily and Bella at Down to Earth Dogs are absolutely the best. They take such good care of all of the dogs and I know that my big Cane Corso is safe while he's there. Emily makes sure that he gets breaks/rest when appropriate, he swims, he gets lots of love and comes home so happy and exhausted. Emily and Bella send pictures/videos throughout the day and always give me detailed updates when he's picked up. I feel completely comfortable with Goosey being there. He's a huge dog, but Emily and Bella are very knowledgeable with dog training of pups of all sizes. I won't bring Goosey anywhere else!

Emily is the most knowledgable, kind, caring and professional proivder in San Diego. She gets to know every dog, what they need, and makes sure it's a good match and healthy environment. She goes above and beyond to make animal and owner's lives better. I will be a loyal customer!!! I'm extraordinarly appreciative of your expertise, time, and willingness to help. Emily and her family are the nicest! We found Down to Earth Dogs online via Google and Yelp reviews and figured I'd help others make an easier decision. I would not even hesitate for one second to leave our pup with Emily for our next vacation! Emily was super accommodating - she took in Diggy's crate from home since my wife and I were afraid of Diggy regressing on his crate training since he's been entering his adolescent months. We did a half day trial with Emily after we saw the amazing large open outdoor space that she has available for the pups. Afterwards, Diggy stayed overnight for just one night and he did great! Emily also sent us pictures and videos to show how he was doing - that was such a nice touch. It was also comforting to see Diggy having a great time hanging out! We're already planning to ask Emily for our next out of state trip!

We cannot recommend Emily and Down to Earth Dogs enough. Our dog looks forward to daycare and comes back happy and tired. Emily is professional, has years of experience and training. I never have to worry about who is watching our dog or if they know what they’re doing. We get honest feedback and updates about our dogs behavior. Emily treats the dogs like family and we really appreciate all she does!

We love bringing our dog to Down to Earth dogs! He is well cared for, gets lots of play time, and we get pictures daily :). Our pup comes home happy and tired after a day of play. Our dog previously had very little socialization and now he is so comfortable and loving his new friends. I can’t say enough good things about this doggy daycare service!

Down to Earth Dogs is perfect for personalized pup accommodations. Emily, Bella, and family did an amazing job hosting our aging pup, Roxy, while the rest of her family (we) travelled for two-weeks across the country. Emily asked how often we would like updates on Roxy’s stay, so every couple of days we received a few images of Roxy and the report card. For us, the decision to leave Roxy with Emily was based on the personal attention Roxy received, the ability to leave Roxy’s arthritis bed for the nightly stays, the multiple yards available to Roxy as her needs required, and the homely feel of Roxy’s cage-free environment. When we picked Roxy up we were greeted with a wagging tail, a happy pup, and a cuddle filled nap when we all got home. Thank you again, Emily and Bella, for caring for Roxy while the rest of her family travelled.

We feel SO incredibly fortunate to have found Emily and Down to Earth Dogs! Our Pomsky puppy, Kaia, was not a huge fan of the larger doggie daycare and boarding centers. She was a bit overwhelmed by so many dogs and needed some extra snuggles. We could tell she needed a setting that felt more like a home and was a bit quieter. Boy did we hit the jackpot with Emily! She is amazing with Kaia and has made sure her comfort and happiness were priority one from the very beginning. Emily’s set up is perfect as she has three separate yards behind her home that the doggies can play in and even a few little pools which Kaia loves. Kaia has stayed with Emily for daycare and extended boarding and Emily always sends us adorable pictures of Kaia having fun with her and her puppy friends. Emily is a very rare find and we are incredibly grateful for the loving care she provides to our pup!

Rocky Dog and I both love Emily and Down to Earth Dogs. Not only do I feel comfortable leaving Rocky in a safe and fun environment, I know that Emily will also be sincere and honest with me about his behavior and the day's events. Rocky is a young German Shepherd which means he can be handful at times, and Emily has always been patient and helpful. I also like that she provides a more intimate and personal setting than the larger daycares in town. Fewer dogs and extra love is best for my guy. Rocky LOVES going to daycare with Emily. He starts to get excited blocks before we arrive at her house, and often the only way to get him to leave is to utter the magic "dinner" word. I'm thankful to have Emily in the neighborhood and happy to support her small business.

Emily dog sit's/cares for my 2 beloved pups and I trust that they are safe with her. The reason I trust that my pups are safe in Emily's care is because she is not just a dog sitter. Emily has knowledge and insight into dog behavior and I believe cares more about a dog being the right fit for her to care for rather than just accepting whatever business comes her way. Emily also allows me to explain to her some of my pups behavior and offers me advice and direction on how she thinks I could implement some new training into their lifestyle. Emily also has a great space for the dogs to live in while she is watching them. I can tell that she put care and thought into the design of her yard and what would be suitable for the dogs that she cares for. Emily is responsive and always very pleasant. She also has a very calm presence about her which I appreciate because I know that my pups are in a peaceful environment when they are with her!

I'm so thankful we found Emily for our dog boarding needs. We have two dogs, who are both prone to anxiety, so I was little nervous about how they'd do boarding the first time. I'm thrilled to report that everything has always gone GREAT with Emily and we've boarded 4 times for about a week each time. Emily's background in dog training and behavior is very obvious given how adept she is at assessing dog personalities and determining their needs. As other reviewers wrote, she has separate 'play' spaces for the dogs so that compatible personalities can be kept together. It's a tremendous relief to leave the dogs with her when we go out of town and the dogs obviously have a great time as she frequently sends photos of them playing with their new dogs friends. I feel like they're on vacation along with us ^_^

I dropped my puppy off for daycare and socialization and I am more than happy with the service. Emily's professionalism and vast knowledge of dogs and training sets her side from your ordinary facility Who basically look to hire any minimum wage employee to watch your dogs with no experience. This is a place where you know the experienced owner is taking care of your precious pet. I love the cage free setting and small amount of dogs so they all get attention. It's not a boarding facility, it's a vacation for your pet so you can enjoy your time and not have to worry about your family member since they are in great hands. Thank you Emily for your great service and love for the dogs.

Emily is a Dog Whisperer and I cannot say enough good things about her and the services she provides! If you have a dog that needs pet sitting, you and your dog will be so lucky to get Emily! I have a Brittany Spaniel puppy named Bandit who came to us extremely anxious. None of my family members or friends would watch Bandit while we were out of town because he was so out of control and destructive in the house. Emily took Bandit a few days a week at first and turned Bandit around. Emily was able to figure out what Bandit needed to calm down by closely watching his behavior over the day. She found many reasons for Bandit's nervous behavior and gave me several suggestions on how to help Bandit relax. This was something that 2 other well known trainers were not able to pinpoint. She then gave me care and training instructions to help Bandit be a more behaved dog. We then went on vacation for a week and left Bandit with Emily for 7 days. She took impeccable care of him including taking him to the vet. She gave me several updates throughout the week on how Bandit was doing and sent me pictures of Bandit peacefully playing with other dogs. It made me feel so happy on vacation to see pictures of Bandit and to know he was happy and doing really well. When Emily cares for your dog, you not only get an amazing pet sitter who takes the best possible care of your dog, you also get a trainer who can give you insights into your dogs needs and behaviors. Emily is worth her weight in GOLD!

I started taking my 1 year old bulldog to down to earth dogs a while ago and I cannot think of a better place for him. Emily know Hamilton just as well as I do now and that speaks volumes to how much she loves what she does and how much pride she takes in her business and her clients. Hamilton is high maintenance and such a love and when he doesn't go for his time there he is a pain in the neck at home. Emily gives the dogs the socialization they need without over stimulation. She pays attention to what is best for the dog as well as the owner and her pricing is far better than any others I have seen. I had to go out of town and would not have left my boy with anyone else. I didn't worry for one minute and as much of a dog lover as I am and stress case I can be about their care I know my big boy is getting so much care!!

Love love love this place! We are so comfortable leaving our high energy puppy with Emily for the day. Price is reasonable for the obvious individualized attention she spends on the dogs! Even though they say not to go to daycare yet at puppy training, we are confident that Emily is working with Sierra to build healthy habits. She gives great advice and is obviously working to build healthy dog relationships for all her furry clients:) Couldn't recommend this place more!

This is the ideal place to board or send your pup to doggy daycare. My lab mix, Luna, spent the first year of her life going to doggy daycare with Emily, and as a result, she does better in the crate and better when playing with other dogs than she ever would have done if it had just been up to me to train her. Emily runs the business out of her home and is a true dog person - she loves every dog that comes to play or to stay, and she is very calm and very strong, which I think the dogs respond to. I have since moved out of town, and even still, I have boarded Luna with Emily once already and hope to do so again this summer. When Luna is with Emily, I have total peace of mind that she is getting the exercise, affection, and structure she needs to be a happy, healthy dog -- and that peace of mind is well worth Emily's very reasonable prices. She is honestly a gift in our lives and in the lives of all of the dogs she cares for. I highly, highly recommend Down-to-Earth Dogs!

Emily is incredible! She has such an intuitive and educated perspective on dogs, their behavior, and their needs. My dog is, shall we say, a 'special case,' and I have absolutely zero worries that Emily will be able to handle her, and anything else that comes along. Emily is very professional, and also super kind. Hers is my absolute go to place for my dog to board. (And it's incredibly clean and peaceful!) I see why my dog doesn't want to leave when it's time to go home! (Kidding... Sort of...) ;)

I adopted my lab mix Maia 2 months ago, and she’s very fearful—I was worried about having to go out of town for the first time without her, because she has such bad separation anxiety that I can’t even leave her with my family at home. But thanks to Emily’s patience, kindness, and experience caring for and training all kinds of dogs, Maia warmed up quickly and had a great week playing with the other dogs. She even got to sleep in a people-bed just like at home, and Emily sent regular photo updates (in which Maia looked like she was having a blast!). After her initial excitement when I came to pick her up, she started to follow Emily back inside—a sure sign that she had a great time. I’ll be bringing her (and my parents’ new tiny chihuahua) to Emily for all my future trips!
