Horrible service and horrible office that charges an arm and a leg for nothing! Dr Garrolini was rude and unprofessional, he was running late and was obviously frustrated. He practically suffocated our dog squeezing her face trying to make my daughter put a muzzle on her. Our dog has never worn a muzzle before and we have never had a problem. We have been taking our dogs there for years, and no mention of a muzzle has ever came up. So obviously this frustrated doctor just wanted to get this over with and get out of there. When they couldn’t get the muzzle on and my daughter started almost crying that she couldn’t breathe, he walked out. He did not examine her but they still charged my daughter $122! For what? All he did was stress both my daughter and our dog out. Now, the office could care less, and says there’s a note in our dogs chart from 2018 that she bit someone — they couldn’t tell us the specifics of the incident, who wrote it, or why we have never been told of that — they just said a “note.” Yet they have never told us, they’ve seen her after (just this July) and provided overnight boarding … so all the sudden this comes up after a frustrated doctor didn’t get his way? Horrible! Please avoid this place. They don’t care about our pets at all.

Buckle up folks, have I got a review for you. I have really have to say , our situation from the beginning was odd, and it wouldn’t have surprised me if these guys had turned us away, or not been able to help, but Channel Island Vet Hospital (CIVH) really came through for us. The situation begins about 7 months ago in Louisville, Kentucky. Our dog Uno suddenly developed a massive Gastrointestinal bleed with acute pancreatitis. We took him to the local emergency vet, and got him on track to what we thought was better. The problem was, this ended up being a recurring problem for 5 months. Every few weeks Uno got sick, started bleeding, vomiting, low appetite with low energy. Uno is 9 years old, and up until this point he has had only 3 accidents in our house. The two weeks prior to us visiting Southern California he was basically having accidents every 2 hours around the clock. Multiple vets here proved to be unhelpful, recommending food changes (which didn’t result in anything sustainable), or tests that didn’t show anything unusual except that his pancreatitis was slowly getting better. He had been on 4 rounds of antibiotics and food changes were recommended constantly. All in all, the dog vet and food bills were stacking up, and ER visits aren’t cheap. We had a road tripped planned out to California and decided we needed to take our sick dog with us. I asked my mom if she had a vet she liked, because at this point I was willing to try anything. She told us about Dr Linda McKinnon. When we called over to CIVH specifically see Dr McKinnon, initially they told us they couldn’t get us in, but after explaining that we were driving across country and my mom sang Dr McKinnons praises, they fit us in. At a completely reasonable price, our prayers were answered in the form Dr McKinnon. The doctor spent almost 30 minutes with us, went over old labs, did an exam, drew new labs.. etc. she recommended a very specific diet, with a plan A, B, and C. Plan A ended up working, and Uno has made what at this point feels like a full recovery (knock on wood). She followed up with us about a week later to go over labs and check on Uno. While her treatment of course was thorough, that wasn’t where Dr McKinnon really shined. She was extremely clear explaining her diagnosis and thought process, while being very pragmatic, without even a hint of condescension. Honestly I wish MDs were more like this. To sum up, Dr McKinnon and CIVH squeezed us in when we weren’t even established costumers, saved the day, without breaking the bank, and set our minds at ease. What more could you ask for?

DISHONEST AND IRRESPONSIBLE! DO NOT COME HERE! I called this veterinary in order to find a doctor that could help our cat lose some weight. Young female on the phone assured me that our visit would (not cheap, mind you) include a physical evaluation for our obese cat plus a diet program so we could get him back in shape. . When my sister picked up our cat from this place, she asked the people working here where the diet/eating program was. She thought the doctor would print it out for us. The staff replied with a sassy: "oh, you can that info anywhere online. Bye" My sister paid them without knowing that we had been charged for something we were promised that was never delivered. I made 2 calls to this place and was promised to get a call back from the doctor but the moths have passed and I will be contacting the credit card company to submit a chargeback plus a fraud report.

Ridiculously expensive, weak communications and extremely defensive. No thank you. I’ve been searching for an honest, affordable, caring Veterinarian since moving from Colorado 3 years ago. The technicians (I’ve dealt with) are definitely caring and kind. The office as a whole has one thing on their agenda which is to make money. I, like many animal lovers and owners, want only the best for my dog. Before you spend your money here please demand an estimate prior to them servicing your pet. Ask questions and demand a response. I’m now searching for another Veterinarian. Do I need to return to Colorado to find an honest one? My advice is to find a different Veterinarian! Channel Islands Vet will not get my business or referrals again!

Very good with working out a payment plan such as care credit and such, very open into talking and working out what they could do with the money you have. They are great at communicating and very kind.

Everyone was so kind and patient with my very hectic and worried dog owner. I came in with my female pit who was bleeding out from a uterus infection, I looked around and went to many different veterinary. I didn’t find any that were available or as kind and open into taking my baby in. They are great at communicating and giving calls to update. Defiantly recommending them to everyone! Loved it there and definitely do NOT regret it!

IF YOU TAKE YOUR PET HERE MORE THAN ONCE, YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOUR SELF FOR YOUR INCOMPETENCY TO CARE FOR YOUR ANIMAL!! Just read the reviews here, the only people satisfied with the work that this place does are the people who have gone for a standard check-up and no real issue with their pet. If you take your pet here in a medical emergency or a serious issue, I can all but guarantee that you will not receive any level of service that can be deemed professional. The lead veterinarian is a complete hack. Without getting in to too much detail I can tell you that he completely misdiagnosed my dog. He was no where even close to being correct in his assessment as to why the issue was occurring. His plan for treatment was nothing but a list of useless expensive & overpriced procedures that had no actual impact on the issue being corrected or improved. Perhaps the most frustrating part of the whole ordeal was that the arrogant hack of a vet would not listen to anything that I had to say as far as the information any vet would want to have to correctly diagnose and treat a patient. I subsequently took my dog to a well known and reputable vet in Ventura who was completely in agreeance to everything I have mentioned and experienced with Channel Islands V.H. He also informed me of their incompetency on an even greater level than I had witnessed or even thought possible. This place should be exposed as a scam and shut down with licenses revoked. The Vet should be dishonorably retired immediately and banned from continuing to practice here or anywhere. I will not mention the name of the vet that I went to following this place and their complete failure because I don't want anyone to think this is for the benefit of another outfit, but I will say that had I not taken my dog to another vet for a second opinion, I would not still have her today, completely healthy and happy. If you don't care at all about your pet, then I would recommend this place, otherwise, no one should ever give this place any business.

These people do not care about your animal. You can tell the staff are forced by their owner to oversell their services just so the owner can make a lot of money. The owner is a scammer!!! They wanted us to spend over $500 on pointless …

The thing that i like most is they send you reminders to your email, even promotions and happy birthdays cards for your pupps, and they attend urgency too, and honestly you pay a good price for the attention that you receive.

A little pricey otherwise they would’ve gotten 5 stars but they will take care of your pet even if it’s being woken up at 6 am to catch a flight because the airline requirements are ridiculous. Staff is great and Dr. Garrolini is very informative (open book). Good Quality Veterinary Hospital.

I have so much gratefulness to Dr. Garrolini and the staff at Channel Islands Veterinary Hospital! My furry friend, Prince Taco, had a suspected unfortunate accident with a vehicle that clobbered him almost 3 weeks ago. After rushing Taco to a 24-hour veterinarian, he was then monitored and cared for by CIVH. Long story short, Dr. Garrolini and the staff pulled a miracle and repaired a detached ureter to Taco's ruptured bladder with microsurgery. After Taco's followup visit today, we discovered the urine that had been leaking into his abdomen has ceased, and it appears the Dr. Garrolini and the CIVH staff SAVED HIS LIFE!!! At home typing these words, it's all I can do to keep tears of joy from pouring down my cheeks as I sit with Prince Taco purring on my lap. I've received nothing but stellar care and service from everyone at the hospital, and highly recommended this veterinarian to anyone who is looking for an excellent place to take your pet. I received timely updates every step of the process that were easy to understand, the facility is open during hours that I can easily work into my busy schedule, and their appointment reminder system is super helpful. I'm very grateful for the miracle I received from you all. Thank you again. -- Caleb, and the team at AWS Automotive --

One of channel islands veterinary hospital's customers stole my credit card information and CIVH allowed their customer to use it to pay a bill. It has been over 2 weeks and CIVH still refuses to refund my card after repeated requests from me.

Very surprised to see a few negative reviews. Been to multiple Vets/Animal hospitals in the country the the years. Could not have been happier with the with the staff and treatment during a very difficult emergency visit. Was not inexpensive but was inline or better than recent visits we have made to other hospitals. Have had bad experiences with vets myself. Glad they made room for us during an emergency, treatment and compassion have earned them our future business.

I don't normally post reviews, but seeing so many bad ones i feel the need to say that for the last 6+ years Channel Islands Veterinary Hospital has really been fantastic. Same day appointments have never been an issue for our emergencies and they are always calm and kind when dealing with my fur babies. YES Veterinary care is expensive... NO the services are not free... but quality care for your furry family members is worth the cost. Thanks for all you do for our furbabies!

Very nice and competent animal hospital. A little pricey but that may be normal. They found our cat through his microchip after he was gone for 10 months. Very grateful.

I absolutely hate this place!! Last year my miniature pincher was hit by a car. We took her to Channel Island Vetianary Hospital. They gave us a price that we could not afford, all at once due to the fact, I was unemployed at the time. …

I just want to thank you for the wonderful treatment you gave Yani. She is so tiny and frail we were terribly concerned that she would never be healthy and active. You took great care of her and she is like a new dog. She wasn’t barking for a long time, and her energy was very low. Since her surgery she is running again and has her personality back. I can’t thank you enough for everything you have done and the great service from doctor & staff.

Channel Islands Veterinary Hospital is absolutely the best veterinary hospital I have ever been too. Dr. Garrolini is a miracle worker. My dog, Wolfie had difficulty walking. His back leg was dragging behind as he walked and he could not …

The Channel Islands Veterinary Hospital is a dangerous and corrupt business that puts all animals brought there in direct harm. They are negligent with the care of animals left over night, give false/wrong diagnoses that can end up in the death of an animal, and put profit above any concern for the actual health needs of an animal. A week after taking my 18 year old cat, Flashlight, for a check up he ended up dead in their overnight hospital. A very healthy cat with no previous health issues, without regard to his advanced age or pre-screening for any internal conditions, Dr. Christine Holter gave Flashlight a rabies vaccine. A week later when I brought him in sick, she immediately made me sign off to $1000+ of dollars to admit Flashlight into the hospital, claiming he had kidney disease, and called me a day later to announce his death. The last day I visited him, his fur was a mess, the nurse hurt him by pulling the IV too fast and when I asked if he really would be better the next day I was given 100% assurance. Too late of course to ever get Flashlight back -- but not too late to save other patients! After research online I have found that other customers have made similar complaints (check the filtered yelp reviews). When I called to express my concern and my intent to pursue this matter legally, I was told that cats no matter what age or under what health are REQUIRED by CA law to get rabies shots. This is FALSE. These people only have one thing in mind: money. Not the health and well being of both animals and their loving owners.
