Friendly staff. Please call before donating. Do not bring books; they're full up.

I adopted a kitten recently and it was overall a great experience. Initially the first 2 kittens I applied for were not available (other people applied first) but I’m glad I ended up with our kitten, she is a great. In the reviews some people mentioned having problems, but I didn’t at all (and I have never worked/volunteered for the organization). I would recommend bringing cash or check to pay for the adoption fee because there is a decent surcharge for card. The adoption coordinator Sarah was great and responsive and a big thanks to whoever my kittens foster parents were, she is fun, brave, and has a big personality.

Animal Friends is such a great organization, I started volunteering for them in 2004. I love their lifelong commitment to each animal in their program.

Saw an adoptable dog on their website that seemed to be a perfect fit for our family. Immediately put in the online application and called the next day to set up an appointment. Firstly, there is no contact number that puts you through to a live person, only a voice-mail. Secondly, I called twice, several days apart, and have yet to receive a call back. I understand that there may be multiple applications per dog, but they should still respond to potential adopters. Fortunately, we were able to visit and adopt a wonderful dog from the Monterey SPCA. I don't recommend this place because they seem unable or unwilling to properly communicate.

This is my favorite thrift shop in Pacific Grove, plus it supports a worthy cause.

We ask for a dog named benji a while ago and they were going to do a home check when he got adopted. If thats not bad my friends family wanted to adopt a cat but then when they went to pick the cat up to adopt the person said that there is another family that we think is better

Another terrific agency offering adoption of wonderful pets. Some of which maybe older. The people who run this agency are very helpful and friendly. This agency is definitely a blessing and worth checking out if someone is interested in finding a good pet.

This place is shady !! Tried to adopt a cat and put in a application and never heard anything back . So I went to petco to see the kittens where they had them and seen the kittens we wanted to adopt and found the phone number . So I called and a lady told me she would review my application and call me back so we could adopt . Never got a call back so I called the number back and now it goes straight to voice mail . Complete waste of time and very shady . It seems like they don’t even exist and it’s a shame for the cats they don’t follow up with applications. They should be shut down from what I have read about them and what I have experienced

I’ve fostered for AFRP before. I recently adopted my puppy, Bella, from them. When dogs are fostered, you get to see their real personality.

False advertising. Majority of the pets they post online for adoption aren't even there at the shelter. Not that hard to update your list rather than lure people in from long distances only to find none available to adopt. Gal at the front desk was rude and inexperienced. Also, they discriminate against teens and children. Wouldn't even allow my 13 year old to handle a cat that was responding well to him through the cage.

I simply can't believe that the foster mom's give false promises of adoption after meeting me and then email to say that they are going to pass. She said she was going to go with the other family that had applied to adopt the puppy. However Weeks later the dog is still available for adoption according to their website. From what I've read all the one star reviews mirror my personal experience and a lot of the five-star reviews are just people who work there period or are from a long time ago when the staff used to be decent and actually call you back.

I took in my pug to be evaluated because she has a liver shunt. During the previous visit the vet had told us she would get worse. When we arrived I was so distraught thinking this was the end. When the vet came out to talk to us she stated that the cost of the liver shunt services (surgery) would be 5,000 or if we wanted her medical expenses paid we could surrender her to a rescue called Animal Friend Rescue. The vet saw I was crying and just distraught. All I wanted was to save her life. The vet didn’t give me other options that there were. She only gave us 5 minutes to come up with a Decision. That night we surrendered her. After speaking to somebody from a pug group, they told me about all the options I had. I called the vet trying to get my beloved Yumi back. They pushed me off to the rescue. I called the rescue No answer. I emailed the rescue and they told me that I had been given all my options which was a complete lie. I emailed them back telling them I had been taken advantage of and that I wanted my yumi back. No response. I was tricked into giving up my beloved yumi. I miss her and I love her. I’ve been following her on the rescues page, seems like these ladies already have a plan to keep her. I also found out that this animal rescue put her out to be a parvo pup to get funds from people. They made about $400 + from this lie. I have tested her sister and parents , no parvo. Shame on you guys for doing this. Shame on you.

I stopped by today for the first time while visiting Monterey and I have to say it was the best animal place I've ever been. The animals seem very well taken care of and the stuff is lovely. I had a nice chat with the lady working the front desk who also fostered one of the dogs who seems in very good care and health. The cats are all well fed and most are playful. Overall it was a great experience and I'm very sad to not have been able to take one of the dogs home with me.

I love the mission of this organization. I adopted my little fur baby here several years back and he's been the best buddy a girl can have. This organization also works with local shelters to offer young and old fur critters the chance to live out their lives with people who care.

Went in and was looking at some puppies but was told I couldn’t even touch them because they weren’t Vaccinated... only for them to let some little girl in the pen to play with them! When I asked why she was allowed to play with them the rude, uppity volunteers didn’t want to answer only repeated that I couldn’t touch them.

This is another great place to adopt a new friend besides the ASPCA. The cost may be higher, but the animals are well checked over, vaccinated and ready for adoption. We adopted two kittens from them and they are healthy and very loving.

Had a great experience here. The staff/voounteers were very nice, knowledge, and a pleasure to be around. We hope to be adopting a dog from here too. Either way, worth a visit if your looking for a new companion. They have dogs and cats at this one location, and an abundance of animals in foster care. So it might be helpful to call ahead and check in with them if you have a specific animal in mind.
